As Jack Miles finished his sentence Alpha squad pulled the triggers of their rifles.
For a second everything around me appeared to be frozen, raindrops looked like little gems as they reflected light. They were hovering in mid air, some evaporated and others pushed aside by lightning bolts from the rifles that were slowly making their way towards me. My mind was tranquil and I awaited the inevitable outcome, the fact was that I had no way to beat them and this was a suicide mission after all.
However as another second went by the time stopped completely as space before me bent and warped and then in the middle something appeared.
Orb appeared and I was illuminated by a white flare that hurled itself towards me like a snake. Source of the flare, the orb. I couldn't move, not even bend my finger.
When it reached me it phased through my chest and terrible pain spread through my body the pain was unbearable it felt as if every single cell of my body was on fire and then, it stopped.
The orb was gone leaving no trace behind, just as the flare.
My body felt different now, all my senses seemed to have improved and so did my body. There was another thing signalling the change.

As I read the notification I was stunned by the sound of raindrops falling simultaneously as my hearing was improved greatly. Smile appeared on my face as I was grazed by the bolts.
They looked at each other and appeared dazzled, this was my chance.
I dashed forward and punched one of the closest combatants in the chest and then loud cracking noise could be heard, blood gushing from his mouth and nose as I made a hole through his armor and eventually his chest. He was dead before he fell to the ground.
"Huh?" I sounded as I watched the body fall to the ground.
I knew I was stronger, faster and more agile, but this was frightening even to me.
When they head their colleague fall to the ground they all turned as if they never saw me move and they never did as I dashed to another one grabbing him by the neck and pulling his spine out with his head, it was as easy as plucking a dandelion in the garden.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
The one standing next to him was little faster than I expected and aimed his rifle at me, so I yanked it off his hands and shoved it through his chest.
Needless to say after I toyed with them I quickly executed them without causing them much pain as I dashed around and wreaked havoc. Nobody even had time to scream as they were hit although few of them fired and none backed down. I had to commend them for their bravery.
After 8 seconds I was holding Jack Miles by the neck as his legs were dangling in the air, below him only about 38 floors of emptiness and at the bottom his ending destination, pavement.
Anger could be seen in his eyes, wrath that couldn't be described by words, the one for which families murdered each other for generations. It sent shivers down my spine, it honestly did. Although he couldn't say a word because he was choking.
"I wonder," I said with a pause because this little fight got me exhausted, "if your fancy gear helps you with the aftermath of the fall, it'll be funny to watch, either way bai~," and just like that I released the vice grip I gained.
"Now what I do with this lot," I said as I turned.
Little white orbs hovered about 30cm above their bodies. I approached one of them. They were cold to touch and were humming and buzzing slightly.
『Soul Harvest』
As I touched it, it sunk into my hand and another notification popped up.
「Progress: 1/836」
I have no clue what these orbs do, but I might as well take them as it takes no effort. Just as I was to lean for another soul they suddenly all flew towards me.

I had everything I needed, so I went towards the door I entered the rooftop with but after few steps I facepalmed myself. It was better to destroy their noggins so they couldn't use that pesky MREC on them, without that, detectives were pretty useless now days. Taking few weapons wouldn't hurt either. I took one helmet and 12 rifles and put them in a bag that was used for transporting the explosives I placed around the house earlier. It took me two years and 153 days to gather enough materials and to build the explosives.
I made sure to leave a little present for the next in line chief detective nicely packed in a metal box.
"Bwahaha, what an unexpected turn of events!" I laughed out loud as I went downstairs to take elevator to the first floor.
***
Elevator arrived quickly and I got in and pressed number 1. The door shut behind me and the elevator was on it's way down but soon came to halt and door opened, there was a man in a navy blue suit and red tie standing there. He had black hair and round glasses with black frame, he was freshly shaven and I could smell the stench of his body. Ever since my senses improved every human would smell terribly, until they've been disemboweled that is, the sweet smell of human entrails was alluring.
I smiled and waved my hand as a sign for him to come in.
He smiled back and nodded. Then the elevator was on it's way again.
"Say, mister," after while I said, "if you had to choose between your head being smashed or burnt to a crisp in a building that was about to collapse, what would you choose?" I kept my smile and leaned back on a wall of the elevator. Staring at him.
Droplet of sweat could be seen rolling down his forehead, I could only imagine what was going on through his mind. His hand started twitching a little as he adjusted the glasses on his face.
"I- I guess I would choose the former," he replied in a slightly trembling voice.
"Great choice indeed," I said when his skull shattered and almost broke the elevator wall. I quickly wiped my hand on his suit and reached his watch. I'd use that to buy myself something to eat. Maybe Double Burger with Fries.
I also took his soul and the progress bar increased yet another time. My train of thought was derailed as a loud ding of elevator arriving to it's destination could be heard.
I walked out of the building and lifted my sleeve. Then I ripped off the device that was checking my heartbeat.
