28 - The School

Majid went to the Market, some meddlesome brokers approached him, not again. He learned his lesson though, "I'm just looking around."

He bought some clothes for a few copper coins, his shabby clothes helped him to keep the prices in check. Except those who inflated them to scare a penniless customer away. He looked for a sword, but he didn't find anyone worth buying, there was no spiritual one in the market. Neither he found his favorite design either, something similar to a katana. And seeing as his bone easily broke even an Enforcer Sword, he decided to forge it into a saber. But it was a dilemma, it was good and all that the bone was hard, but he needed something harder to reshape it, it wasn't metal, pliable under heat. That cultivator must be of a high realm for his bones to be this strong.

He looked a little bit more before he decided to go, it was meaningless to keep strolling aimlessly until he pumps into another trouble. He changed into the new robe and put the hood on. He looked up a few inns before he settled in the cheapest one for 30 copper coins a night. The inn was a small yard surrounded by a few huts. The huts were made of dilapidated wood planks, but at least it was roofed with clay tiles. Majid wasn't picky to begin with, and with his experience the last 4 months, anything with a roof and bed was a luxury.

He opened a bag and something flashed out of the bag. It was Foxy, he let out some noisy grumbling like sounds, before started to stretch.

Majid has many things to think of now that he settled down, but he found himself worried about an unexpected problem. That scene where people prostrated before him, it was etched and itchy in his mind. It was indeed sad and showed him another dark side of the world he dreamed of, people tend to consider the bright side when they like something. But that wasn't what disturbed him, wouldn't it come a day where I would need to bow and even kowtow as well. A moderate bow was acceptable, but kowtowing was something that he really can't do. But the problem was he would pay his life if he didn't comply with the rules of this world, even a hesitation might do. Was it really worth it to live if has to humiliate himself for the people of power. This tricky problem was indeed a dilemma for him. It was easy for him to kowtowed for the one who created him from scratch. But why would he do it for people with sh*t in a roller coaster in their guts, that's really infuriating.

Would I need to kowtow to my master like in those novels, the heck. I was really short-sighted. Should I start another round of spamming, for the new overseer to send me back, man I was joking why did he take me seriously, yeah that one certainly broke the laws and send me here before my death, should I rise spamming complaints. He smirked at the idea, then he hugged his belly and lied down laughing as he imagined the overseer reaction. Let's get serious her this is a real problem.

"What are laughing for" Teemao rolled his eyes at him.

"Nothing, I just thought of an old friend, by the way, do people kowtow to their masters in this world,"

"What do you mean in this world,"

Crap, "well... don't you know that there's another world for immortals and..." he spat out some of his novelopedia in his face, "don't focus on the details, anyway do they? have you ever kowtowed to anybody?"

"We do kowtow to our ancestors in the prayer ceremony, why are you asking me this, it's not like never did,"

"I did, I did, I'm talking about for someone alive," Indeed some memories flashed by his mind. Well, it's acceptable to pretend to kowtow for the dead, there would be no one to look down on him.

"Yeah, a direct disciple must kowtow to his master," Teemao eyes looked up thinking.

Damn I know it, it was indeed as the novels say. What to do now, was it worth it to lose great opportunities or even my life for a small gesture. Majid contemplated for a while, he looked at Teemao intently, his legs started to bend before they straightened again. I really can't do it, I need to make some countermeasures, let's leave it as my last resort. But that aside, he won't be chosen as a direct disciple anyway at least in the near future. The real problem now was how to attract the attention of the Divine Lotus Sect. He checked his status, with a smile at his face.

Unlike what he thought when he started this, he made a lot of improvements, with the Qi cleansing effects, his progress was all rounded. And he worked on a specific progress on his senses and muscles. But the most obvious gains were in his Qi, that was one of the main reasons why he focused on his meridians. Since he already finished training his strength levels, only Qi could increase his strength more and help his survival in the short term. Otherwise, he wouldn't even make it to the City. Though toughness is a part of power, Qi could recompense for it and increase the explosiveness of his elemental attacks. And since he was agility based, his attacking attribute and evasion technique matter the most, or at least that what he learned from games. Other states could wait for now, the bone's stick could compensate as well for toughness.

And the more meridians the more qi he could channel the stronger his soul grows, the more channels he could perceive as a result. This cycle made him build a huge meridians network and grow his soul.

Even though he was cultivating, he found ways to train. He switched between his senses, his muscles, and his soul working on the meditation technique.

He didn't touch his affinities much especially his lightning. No matter how he looked at it leveling up his cultivation was his priority, since it affects his soul. The latter has a huge effect on all aspects of his power, it even closely related to his affinities, that he suspects it would facilitate his affinities growth. Instead, he worked on his water affinity. He spent all of his time on the spirit source it was an appropriate place to grow it. He needed to train it to an acceptable level so he would be able to use it in his daily tasks. Water was at the top of the list for his menial affinities.

The weirdest and the most unexpected gain of them all was the progress of the Sky technique. Majid barely trained in it at all, yet he found out he was making progress, watching Teemao and Foxy made him almost as if he was training himself. As a spectator, he could even clearly see the flow in their moves. And of course, he didn't let the chance slid by, to play the role of an instructor, pointing left and right. While in meditation he kept repeating the moves in his mind, and it proved effective. With the power of the soul, the imagination in this world was on a whole other level, it was almost like virtual reality, he could visualize things perfectly. Even with his low progress, he found out the technique was more powerful than his previous techniques.

All this unexpected gain, he was really content with his progress, but his main goal, why he did all of this, failed. He wouldn't be able to attract the attention of a Master of the Devine Lotus Sect. Since cultivation level was determined by the meridians he thought he could scam them for a level or two, and pass out as a moderate genius. It turns out the school test directly their body tempering since there is a difference between each individual even at the same level.

The next day woke up early in the morning, people were few and far between the streets. Majid found another inn first and booked another hut, just in case someone was following them the other night. He let Teemao and foxy there and headed to the school. Unfortunately, though Teemao progress was great, he didn't make it to the 4th level in time. And the less they moved together the better their chance at keeping their identity hidden. They might bump into some of their clan members into the school.

The feature of the school started to show, as he walked nearer, pagodas and mansions rose in the distance. He stopped at a great gate and looked at The Devine Lotus School that was curved on the top of the gate Majestically. His heart beat faster as expectations grow inside, this was the first he would middle with the cultivation circle. He takes a long way as he crossed the gate, it lead him to a wide plaza. Pandemonium was all over the place, with people of all colors and sizes, excitement and anxiety were scattered around. As he walked around, people gave him a suspicious look but they didn't linger on it. Majid was a wearing dull gray robe, with a hood on his head, he was hiding again from the trouble of the day before. He didn't want any attention now, so he makes his way careful not pumping or getting in the way of anyone, especially those who showed an air of nobility. Nope, I can't handle any arrogant young master, he was paranoid from the kowtowing Delima.

He looked around for someone friendly, he needed someone to fill him in more details, he didn't trust the thug women would help with sincerity. Unlike what he thought, it took him long before he found an appropriate entry line. Many ones give him the cold shoulder before he found a chubby boy. He looked the most welcoming, for one he was alone, so Majid made a beeline for him.

"Wow, everyone is either excited or anxious," Majid approached the boy smiling. "How about you brother," it was obvious that the boy was excited with his eyes glittering, and a reason behind that.

"Of course I'm excited, what's there to fear for me, I'm already the 4th level second stage, but who are you." The boy got ahold of himself, his neck tilted backword as he looked Majid up and down.

"indeed that's the spirit, one must be confident and has the talent to back it up like… what's the brother name by the way, this one's name is Maoji."

"This one's name is Bu Caolu, do you have any business with me," the boy relaxed his neck, less guarded.

"Nothing really, I am new here, and I was looking for a good friend, am I disturbing you brother,"

"No, not at all,"

Majid wasn't a good talker, but he wasn't bad either, he was a good listener instead. He hit it off easily with the Caolu after listening to his interest. The boy didn't hold from sharing his knowledge with him, it wasn't much different from what Mina told him, but he added more details. The schools belong to the kingdom, it was like a military school, after graduation you are to respond to the royals call in case of war. So you have to report your location wherever you go, and that's was problematic for Majid. And he didn't want to serve this lightning forbidden kingdom either. But the school was financed and controlled by the local Sects, and the school Head Master Royal faction. There was for example 4 examination halls hold by each sect, but you can only choose one hall to pass the exam. If you barely make it past the exam you would be accepted to the school, but only if you have real talent that you would be recruited and sponsored by the sect. Each of the hall there are disciples and an examiner, a hall master from the sect and a royal guard. If your talent is exceptional you can be recruited for the royal sect.

This guy knows a lot, well his father is a little merchant, they need to have a big ear to survive in this power jungle.

"Brother Maoji, you must be careful. Even though the sects didn't lack anything compared to the school, the sects send their geniuses to make a name for themself. You must especially be wary of that Blazing Sword Young Master Gu Jido. He's scheming and overbearing, look at his vicious eyes, it tells you everything." Bu Caolu pointed at a young man, his yellow robe was lit with silver flames spreading from a crossed swords embroidery on the back. his hair was red along with his eyes, with an air of superiority. Everyone around him seems to be his lackeys or kissing up to him. he didn't do anything particular but Majid put him right away on his not to approach list. Caolu mentioned other genius and important young masters in a composed manner before he suddenly lost his mind.

"Look brother look, she's the Divine Lotus genius, Lu Reina, she's the goddess of the young generation…" the boy word stopped as his eyes were lost. Majid followed his eyes and indeed a beautiful flower welcomed his eyes. a long silky hair, cascaded on her shoulder in contrast to her fair skin, white robe filled with elegant silver lotuses. Majid smirked as he looked back at Caolu. Don't worry brothers I would save you from this curse, he couldn't help but think that his small business is gonna be prosperous.
