Lisa hurried to her first class with a pace that seemed to be on the boundary between walking and jogging, and as she kept walking through the hall, she took a quick glance at the clock, “9:00”. She was late. However, Lisa couldn’t believe it, as she halted and walked back to look at the clock a second time...then a third.
Instantly, her walking was dismissed, and changed into a full out sprint. The first rule in the school book was already broken, but how could Lisa think about such a small thing, when she knows that if she turns up late to the first class, she will be laughing stock. Lisa too embarrassed to keep looking forward, looked at the floor and as she did, another dread crept up on her.
Rubbing her eyes, she looked at her waist once again...then again...no school bag.
She couldn’t believe her luck, and knew that the school bag was dangling off her chair in her room, she even reassured herself to pick up the bag, but she did not. She was too focused on looking as perfect as she can. However, the truth was: she was sleeping, and she had dreamt of getting up for school. Lisa could not help but smack the wall with a fist, as she crumbled to the floor in defeat.
The genius defeated by a dream…
As Lisa repeatedly called herself a genius, she was not able to notice the class behind her, that was staring with bright red-faced pupils, holding back their laughter. However, the teacher in the black robe was having none of it, as she came forward and spoke with a dignified tone.
“I presume your Lisa van Asei”
Lisa quickly perked up in surprise. Noticing the class standing behind her she went bright red, and wanted to cry at being placed in this unfair situation. However, she remembered what her dad always used to tell her about first impressions, and she quickly stood up straight and wiped her expression off her face, but she couldn’t completely hide her embarrassment, and fidgeted uncontrollably. Then, looking the teacher in the face she spoke with a scared voice.
“Ye-s, me-e”
There was a single moment of silence, and then abruptly in unison the whole class bellowed in laughter, some even exaggerated and starting smacking their thighs. However, the teacher only found this irritating, as her eye kept twitching, but seemingly remembering something, she turned towards the hyenas behind her, and spoke in disgust.
“Be quiet! Else, you will spend the first day homeless”
Silence did not follow instantly, but slowly circulated throughout the class, and the laughter lazily quieted down, with an expectation of some idiots who were still laughing under their breaths. The teacher cleared her throat.
“Now, if we are done, follow me.”
The teacher then turned around, and quickly paced down the hall. The pupils were just surprised, as they took questioning glances at Lisa, as if she should receive some sort of punishment. However, as the teacher took a glance over her shoulder, a few pupils connected eyes with her, who instantly ran to walk behind her. The others followed suit, not wanting to receive any sort of punishment.
Lisa slumped exhausted against the wall behind her, as she let out a sigh of relief, but soon, she looked tired once again and began running after the class. That is my class...
Soon Lisa caught up to the class, that had gathered outside in the courtyard. She heard some of what the teacher was talking about, and soon became excited, as she joined to stand at the back of the class.
“Familiars are important in a mage's life, as they will take care of all your needs, like a butler. They are, however, suited to also become bodyguards, but those familiars, who are capable of fighting, are usually sent out alone to the battlefields.”
After clearing her throat, she spoke, third time already...she must have caught the late-bed flu.
“Their importance cannot really be explained by mere words...”
She spoke clearly, but her face looked like she remembered something sad.
“That is why, you all will be summoning your familiars today”
She spoke happily, clearing her throat for a last time.
“Any questions?”
The teacher surveyed the class, seeing no hands raised, she was about to speak again, but stopped as soon as a hand was raised. She nodded for the pupil to speak, but nothing came out the boy’s mouth. Everyone now stared to look at the boy, and Lisa couldn’t help but facepalm, even though she was in much deeper stuff than him. When the boy finally stopped staring at the floor, he raised his head, and momentarily collapsed when he saw the amount of eyes on him. However, this spectacle only lasted a single moment, as the teacher pointed her wand and chanted.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“Wind of origin, come and satiate your thirst from the mana pool of mine, in return, aid me in my conquest”
After the teacher finished chanting, the boy was levitated above the ground and thrown to the side far away from us, but just before he came into impact of the floor something softened his impact, and it looked as if he had just fallen on the bed. The students looked flabbergasted, and only Lisa looked unimpressed.
The teacher cleared her throat again, making all the students snap out of the trance, and look back at the teacher. The teacher looked around, as if looking for people with more questions, but there wasn’t any. However, as soon as she was going to start, a hand was raised. The teacher’s nerve on her forehead popped, as she looked at the disturbance. The one who raised her hand was the latecomer, Lisa. Lisa asked the teacher a question, in her majestic voice, that held massive amount of confidence. This should get me some friends.
“I have to question your authority, as there is no way you would be able to get away with something so audacious, doing something to us, nobles”
In a moment, the boy who was flung far away was forgotten, as all the students shifted their gazes to their teacher, as they waited in anticipation for her answer. Whispers conspired between most of them, ending with a nod.
Then, as if by some freak coincidence, all the students went behind Lisa, backing her up. However, some went to stand behind the teacher, but they were still outnumbered. One kid from the teacher’s side, noticed that the teacher was not saying anything, came forwards and spoke with reassurance, whilst flipping the school rulebook in front of him.
“Sector 27 of the rule book: teachers have the right to do whatever they want to their students, as long as they don’t end up dead, or mentally ill. So Lisa van Asei, I bet you haven’t even touched your schoolbook yet, and you dare to question authority. I’ll give you some lecturing instead, and not waste mama’s breath. You might have heard already, but remember that this is a neutral zone, you cannot bring your royal family into this”
As everyone looked speechlessly at the boy who said that, who was looking smug and probably felt good about himself, but the teacher looked completely opposite. However, the tension ceased when a person over at Lisa’s side exclaimed loudly, as if it was big news.
“He said mama!”
Immediately Lisa’s side flopped to the floor in laughter, and only Lisa stood strong, for about a minute, before she was unable to contain her laughter and also fell to the floor. However, the teacher was seriously becoming a dragon, as she roared out loud.
“Class 1F, familiar summoning, commencing!”
Instantly, everyone became pale and silent as death. The legendary familiar summoning was commencing, and the teacher must have been chanting the spell under her breath all this time, whilst her boy was giving her time to do so.
Above the ground, a huge pentagram covered the sky and slowly descended, it looked menacing. However, no one was panicking, they were instead grinning happily. They must already know the familiar ritual from books or from their siblings, especially Lisa. As every day she would go around all the libraries and read all their books, that included familiars in them, she would usually fall asleep in the library, but when she is reading a story about familiars, she will read it all in one go, and faint from lack of sleep.
As the pentagram reached the ground, where Lisa was laying along with her group of followers, they were enveloped in a bright light.
As the pentagram touched Lisa’s face, time had stopped around her. She stood up and looked forwards, to where her familiar would appear as depicted in books. Moments passed, and waiting seemed to take years for Lisa. The anticipation kept building up, and it made her face paler by every nonexistent second. Until she finally fainted, but not before seeing her familiar.
A small white haired boy, resting his back against a massive black greatsword. Seeing Lisa's pale face the boy spoke immediately, his voice was childishly innocent and quite soothing.
“My luck has failed me once again...”
