Sofia woke up in pain and confusion.
Her stomach was incredibly sore when she placed her hand on her belly- the pain flared up immensely every time she touched it. However, the hole in her stomach was completely gone. She didn’t understand how, after all, she remembered vividly how the horn went straight into her stomach and tasted metallic blood in her mouth.
She looked around; the room was painted to look like a cloudy sky, there were multiple white medical beds in the room, and the windows outside were stylized glass art showing a man holding a scythe of light- there were three windows depicting a story.
One where the scythe user attacks a shadowy creature, protecting the civilians though no one was watching the scythe user killing the shadowy creature, instead the civilians focused on menial chores.
The second window shows the scythe user taking a ghost to a grey door leading to two paths- one path was a bright beautiful cloud kingdom, and the other path was one shrouded in darkness.
The final glass window showed a shadowy human signing a contract and holding a scythe as the original scythe user watched them.
Sofia slowly got out of bed. She needed to know what the hell was going on and where she was. As she got up a hand touched her left shoulder and pushed her back into the bed. She looked up to see who touched her, her eyes widened in shock- it was the mysterious man from before.
‘When did he get here? I didn’t see him at all!’ Sofia exclaimed in her mind.
The mysterious man sighed in irritation as he sat in the medical bed next to hers.
“Don’t even think about it. You need to recover.” He told her before he wiped his hand off his pants- as if he touched a dirty animal, “While I personally don’t care if you die again. I don’t need to get paperwork for failing to take care of you.”
“Wha- who the fuck are you?” Sophia asked in irritation, “Where am I? What the hell is going on?”
“Always the same boring ass question. Why can’t newbies ask something unique like asking for food?” The mysterious man sighed dramatically, “Don’t interrupt, just listen. I hate repeating myself.”
“I am Zeru, you are in the medical room of the Realm of Lost, and you’re dead.” He told her as he poked her forehead, “You died in a hit and run. So tragic, your body is still rotting on the freeway.”
Dead?
DEAD?
“I’m fucking dead- ow!” Sofia began to panic before Zeru hit the top of her head.
“I told you not to interrupt me.” He warned her before he moved his fist away from her head, “Good news though, you passed the reaping test. Congratulations, you're now a grim reaper.” He told her in a sarcastic tone before he pulled a party popper out, red sparkly flakes splash across her face. Sofia looked at him with great annoyance.

He chuckled with a sly smile as he threw a large packet on her lap, “Now sign your contract and determine how long you plan to stay as a reaper. Stay longer and you’ll get more benefits when you retire and get reincarnated. Note that before your contract is up you may choose to extend it if you desire to do so.” He informed her. His sentence was well rehearsed, as it should be. Zeru has given this introduction a few thousand times.
Sofia looked at Zeru with panic and anxiety, this was all becoming too much for her, and she began to have a panic attack.
“This is too much- I can’t be- I don’t want to reap souls.” Sofia shrieked as she pushed the contract away from her.
Zeru rolled his eyes as he brought a smaller packet of the same contract that seemed to be made for those who didn’t want to read the entire bundle of documents and placed it on her lap.
“Oh, you’ll do more than reap souls. You’ll kill off corrupted spirits and assist in killing souls that are assigned to you.” He informs her in a fake cheery tone, “If you don’t want to, then that’s too bad. You passed and now you’ll join.”
He gives a sadistic smile, “Unless you want to become a monster like that beast you faced before.”
Sofia shivered in fear.
‘I either become a monster or reap other people for God knows how long... But... He said I could be reborn. I can get a second chance.’ Sofia thought to herself.
She looked down at the contract and began to read it.
CONTRACT
Sofia Lee Rowan agrees on 09/06/2025 to join the Grim Society. So long as this contract binds the soul to obey the rules and duties of the grim reaper.
1. Reap any soul that the head grim assigns.
2. Work with Zeru. Until proven to be a valuable and loyal asset to the Grim Society, Sofia must follow and obey Zeru’s orders.
3. When working with other reapers, the reaper with the most experience oversees the missions.
4. Reap cursed souls that have become monsters.
If rules are broken, Sofia will be trailed by the Grand Reapers. Trial will result in death or becoming a Wright.
The contract can be renewed at the end of the contract if you desire to do so.
Check the box below in which plan you wish to fulfill. Each will have its own benefits.
-10 years: The soul will be reincarnated randomly. The contracted soul cannot choose what gender, race, or financial status their reborn life will have.
-100 years: The soul will be reincarnated with a choice of gender and race in a middle-class society.
-1,000 years: The soul will be reincarnated with a choice of gender and race in a high-class society.
-10,000 years: The soul will be reincarnated with a choice of gender and race as part of royalty or an upcoming royal family
Once the contract is signed. Sofia relinquishes the right to use her name and her old identity. The soul will sign the contract with a new name and change appearance in 48 hours.
‘It seems... basic enough to follow. I... I can do this.’ Sofia told herself before she looked at Zeru, “Do you have a pen?” Sofia asked.
Zeru smiled and handed her a red ink pen. Sofia sighed once more before she checked off the 100-year plan and signed with a new name she would now go by. Zeru takes the contract away from her, folding the contract into his pocket.
“Now normally we would go to the Revision room to change your appearance, however since you got your ass handed to you, recover tonight, tomorrow you make a new identity.” Zeru informed her walking towards the exit of the medical room before he stopped at the door to look at her, “What do I call you now, newbie?”
“My name is Nova.” She told him in a proud tone. She quite likes the new name she chose.
Zeru laughs before he turns around and leaves, “How basic.”
