Prologue for the Human Edition

> Dear Human, please know that the following book has been a best-selling classic in the Morl Nation for almost a century, and it is with great joy that I pen the prologue for the new Third Edition. Unlike the First Edition prologue, wherein I waxed lyrical about the historical significance of the events chronicled here, and unlike the Second Edition prologue, where I described the cultural impact of the First Edition’s viral spread across the Morl Nation, I am pleased to say that this entire Third Edition (prologue and all!) has been specially prepared for you. For human audiences!

> Much of this book was constructed from the manuscripts left behind by a seventeen-year-old human named Nial, who went on a pilgrimage to a shrine, annoyed his fellow travelers for several months, then accidentally saved a large swath of humanity from what you would probably consider to be a very dark future. I could not resist assembling his texts semi-posthumously into the First Edition of this book so many years ago. Don’t worry, though! I have edited out his spelling errors, grammatical inaccuracies, stretched metaphors, and a great many tedious, self-aggrandizing passages. (I have attempted to leave just enough of these to make it clear who Nial was, but not enough to frustrate you into abandoning him on his journey.) If he grows to annoy you, don’t worry. I will be back soon—interweaving my Third Edition thoughts with Nial’s autobiographical account. I will never be far, always watching and waiting in the shadows between the lines.
