Ch 4 General Situation pt.1

I woke up in my room in a nest of blankets. I look at the digital clock on the wall and it reads 10:00 Am. As I untangle my red hair from the sheets I start to make my way to the small shower toilet combination that comes with an officer room. As I turn on the hot water and gaze at myself in the mirror I begin to admire the body the system has granted me. I am about 5 foot 3 in not tall but not exactly short either. My hair is a vibrant glossy red, and reaches the small of my back. My face is crystal clear and I have high but well placed cheekbones. Thin eyebrows above striking jade eyes. A modest but still elegant figure with the right curves in the right places. Yup, the system clearly likes striking appearances. After finishing a nice relaxing shower I go to the closest to grab some clothes.

I didn’t take note of what I came here in but it appears to be a simple white tee and jeans. Not exactly suited for the snowstorm the system plopped me in the middle of. The closest however contained much more weather appropriate articles. Modest black Underwear and garments with camouflage fatigues. There were about 6 sets in my size along with two heavy winter jackets. As I finished dressing I stopped by the canteen fridge to grab a ration bar and bottle of water on my way to the operations center. I finish the bar by the time I’m in. “Welcome Commander, would you like a status update?” “Yes please and thank you Kumo”.

“Bear coordinated with Tachikoma and I and we set up a surveillance network up to 1 kilometer out. I have found an individual that meets all your requirements within the state and Crow has found some rather ‘Noteworthy’ individuals and organizations he thinks you should be informed of.” I raise my eyebrow at the final statement. “Ok Crow, who are these individuals and orgs you speak of?” “Analysis - The current political landscape is quite interesting to say the least. In the area we inhabit we have the normal governmental bodies, they are of little interest or concern for the moment. We then have the criminal side of things. Gangs, Mobsters, various organized crime. Things get interesting when we look at the individuals the current society would call ‘Villains’. Most are rather flamboyant, I would suppose, and most are most definitely criminally Insane. There are outliers, thieves and hitmen that aside from some rather cunning or extraordinary acts, are quite like what we expect from an individual of their occupation.”

“But then as I said, the majority are quite mad. And the majority seem to congregate around a mega-city named Gotham. We have a clown named the Joker committing what most would consider terrorism for little to no reason at all aside from the fact that he finds it amusing. Acts from others often seem to have the same reason or just no reason at all.”

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

“Then we have an entity known as the Justice League which is a collection of rather colorful individuals. They are a non-governmental body composed of individuals ranging from various space faring groups and uniquely powerful locals who are committed to upholding relative world peace. There are a few in the neighborhood so to speak, but we only need to worry about two individuals.”

The holograph in the middle of the room bleared to life and showed what looked to be a human wearing what appeared to be a spandex suit and a cape with a large S on his chest. “This individual is known as ‘Superman’. We do not know his real identity. He is actually active globally but his home base seems to reside in a city just across the state lines called Metropolis. He is apparently not a native and due to his unique biology has abilities that baseline humans tend not to exhibit. He has remarkable strength and durability almost knowing no bounds. The ability we are privy too state that his base senses are enhanced dramatically. He has an apparent Xray Vision and can discharge laser beams from his eyes. The chances of encountering this individual are low, but we made a point to note him due to his high threat level should he target us.”

As Crow narrates, the table shows some feats recorded. If I wasn’t seeing it I would have assumed Crow was having a dangerous malfunction. Feeling a headache coming I wait until Crow finishes and once he is finished, signal him to continue.

“The next individual is most assuredly baseline human, but from what information we have of him we would put him at the peak of what one could possibly achieve. He is known as The Batman and is more elusive than the previous specimen. Most of what we know of him is from the more shadowy parts of society. Although there appears to be a little connection to a business conglomerate called Wayne Enterprises Inc. nothing directly connects them, but more often than not, if a building building is destroyed in Batmans regular fights with the local Villains or innocents are harmed in a fight with the Mob, the more charitable side of Wayne Enterprises offers to rebuild the building at a substantial Discount or offers to pay for the harmed individuals medical bills.”

“Confusion - The strangest thing is aside from some niche circumstances this Justice League almost Staunchly refuses to kill those they fight. They more often than not turn these individuals over to the proper authorities, where they then more often than not escape from whatever their cell they were confined to only to cause more harm to society.”

That is quite the strange, if not colorful situation. I honestly didn’t know what to think of it. It is an almost paradoxical situation. “Ok, we shall avoid confrontation with these individuals. As you stated we are unlikely to encounter Superman, but what about Batman?” “Amusement - Like the creature he is named after, he is predominantly active during the Night. So long as we do our dealings under daylight we have an almost null chance of encountering him.” I was quite stupefied at that piece of information and it must have shown. “Empathy - I had a similar reaction when I received this information.”
