After finishing their meals Oliver and Flood got ready to leave, Oliver gave the waitress a charming smile, she gave one in return as well.
When they exited the restaurant they started to look for a place to stay till they are here, but before they could walk even till the end of the street a deafening roar resounded in the air.
Oliver summoned his weapon by reflex and turned around, taking a stance, the carefree expression from a second was gone and his eyes darted everywhere analyzing everything, not wanting to miss anything.
At the front he discovered beast the size of a human, which looked like a stronger version of a bull whit eight legs.
He saw how the bull moved, and immediately found out that the weak spot ironically was the front legs, since the front was bigger than the back the weight of the body wasn’t distributed properly, and if the front legs break the bull will lose his mobility.
The whole process took only few seconds.
Oliver bent down his knees and got ready do dash forward like he was shot from a slingshot.
But before he could do it, Flood put his hand before him, when he looked at her, she shook her head.
Flood [there is no need]
Seeing Olivers gaze, she once again pointed towards the bull.
Only just now did Oliver notice that not all people were running, but instead some were getting closer and closer, seemingly surrounding the animal in a circle.
As the bull fell threatened and was ready to charge, just as he was about to take a step, the figure in front of him dashed forward, the bull couldn’t react on time and his front legs got cleanly cut.
Both Oliver and the bull made a surprised faces, they got to give it to the guy, that speed might give even Oliver troubles if used correctly, but what caught his attention even more was that he couldn’t even see the blade which cut the legs, and the speed of that person was not fast enough for that.
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” the bull cried and fell on the ground.
He wasn’t dead but his fast movements ended here, the rest of the people in the circle pulled out spears, and started closing in on him, slowly but surely ending the fight.
Olive ”impressive teamwork, if the bull tried to charge sideways or saw an opening he might have escaped, but being surrounded in a fight put mental pressure on it not thinking about escaping in worst case scenario, like that guy missing or not succeeding on the first try, not bad”
“excluding the desserts something else noticeable about the Insectoid kingdom and the towns on the end of the kingdom is that since nature in here is so prosperous there are quite a few animals and monsters not far from their towns, and even more are attracted to it, resulting in constant attacks” Flood explained
Oliver nodded.
Flood” but because of that there are special units in almost every town which defend it, so it could be said that those towns are both the safest and most dangerous towns of all”
As the combat ended, the weapon in his hands disappeared and a standard smile replaced his serious atmosphere.
Olive” well that’s that, lets continue looking for an inn or we might need to camp tonight, and from what you just said I don’t think it’s a good idea, not that I mind thou”
Flood looked at his battle junky smile and shook her head, she was used to it by now.
After half an hour they finally managed to find a place to stay, after asking someone.
Oliver ”I need to go to the guild to take the quest, I will return late, so you don’t need to wait me”
Flood nodded, she had no intention to wait either way, after all a new place, new books.
Looking at the smile of the book fanatic Oliver let out a sight, in her opinion being a battle junky was weird, but in his being a book junky was even weirder.
But well he coudnt reprimand her for it, and contrary to her usual behavior he knew that she was quite the caring person on the inside.
After the battle with the Warsher, she was almost inseparable from him for several days to see if he was completely fine, an uncaring person wouldnt do that, they would just ask if you are ok, and then will just go do their thing, not caring at all for anything after that.
But well since Flood had already explained to him how saint work he knew that there was no romantic feelings what so ever, he even purposely tried few things to check if that was true several time but he got no result.
Not, negative result but none at all, in her eyes he wasn’t even a guy who was trying to get with her, in her eyes he was like a child who tried to misbehave with an adult.
But well he couldn’t say he was too much against it, after all there has not been many times where someone cared for him in such a way.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
And thankfully she wasn’t a tsundere, which he probably wouldn’t have been able to deal with.
Honestly speaking, the closest thing to her in rlf would probably be, a childhood friend, who was a book worm, indifferent looking on the outside, but caring and sensitive on the inside.
But if Oliver had to be honest, with her looks, he really hoped he would outgrow from being a child in her eyes, so he could at least have a fighting chance, how often does one get to see such a beautiful god in front of him, whose mere presence makes you feel ha… mhm impressed.
In his opinion its not even about the fact that he is a man, a girl would have the same reaction, that is how attractive gods were, that’s why he didn’t blame the dudes and women on the street, and the security guy.
If she appears in the form of the gender you like, your chance of remaining un-interested are close to 0.
She said however, that if she transforms into animal people wont react that way, but it would be really weird seeing an animal reading books, and whats more if she was an animal she would need to be stuck to him most of the time, and she didn’t want that.
After finishing his thoughts Oliver walked out of the inn, and started strolling around the town.
He had no idea where the guild was but he didn’t mind, that way he could take another look around the town.
The houses with greenery on them, the flowers and trees on every street, the refreshing air.
At first he thought it was weird but the more he roamed around the more he thought that this isn’t so bad.
On the streets people were walking busily, unlike hunters most of the other people had pretty normal jobs, normal as in they were the same as in his old world, actually if it wasn’t for the magic, god power, animals, monsters, skil.. mhm if it wasn’t for a few things this world wouldn’t be different from his old one.
There were even mobile phones, and things similar to laptops in this world as well, he noticed it back in the water people kingdom.
It looks like that even with magic and other powers here, technology was almost on the same level, but of course it was still much worse in terms of functionality, after all with how many different kinds of being there are here it was difficult to make technology work the same way like in his world.
Cables in the ground, pfff you need to ask the underground monsters first, signal in the air, hellow did you sleep on a wet blanket, flaying animals are sensitive, unless you want to defend it 24/7 or like having somethings that makes monster aim for you and angers them better not do that, trying to shoot message with a cannon would have better result than those things.
But of course they weren’t fully useless they worked over small area, they were still useful if you stayed in one place but if you travelled you would need to buy a new phone almost every time which was enormous waste of money, that’s why they didn’t buy one with Flood as well, they were useless for them.
As for guns and cannons, those were even worse, most animals and monsters cant be penetrated by normal bullets, and even if they could their sheer body regeneration would heal the hole extremely fast, they needed to become a bee-hive to actually be killed that way.
And even more important for a world in which every resource mattered, one use weapons were not well developed since it was a waste in most cases, a sword which can cut and be used multiple time, and magic or skills which dont require almost anything are much better than guns for the people here, of course there were still gun users but they were in the absolute minority and since for there to be actual effect from them, they needed bullets that are expensive so these guys were hailed as rich kids with more money than brain.
‘”HAAAAH” Oliver let out a sight.
He was actually pretty good gun user in his old world, so he hoped he could use those weapons here as well, but when he checked everything, they were really not useful and the cost they spent was out of his reach.
As he thought about how useless the gunner profession is he found a building with “Hunter” wrote on it.
It was time to get serious, he needed to find info on his target first and get a quest for a minotaur, if there is one, he wouldn’t go in blind like the last time when he almost got killed by a fish, it was clear to him that he needed more preparations to succeed.
It might not sound like something a battle junky would do, but it was absolutely necessary if you want to be a battle junky with a long life, he wanted to fight, not die.
He spent several hours before finally coming out, the sun was already setting.
“hmm” Oliver stretched his body, which was a bit stiff after sitting in the same position for too long and thought about what to do next, he knew Flood would be in a bookstore even now so he decided to go get something to eat, and he knew just the place, a happy smile appeared on his face.
Thankfully he remembered the way to the restaurant they visited with Flood, when he got there and entered the whole place was rather full, but there were still a few free chairs.
As he walked to the bar and sat down, unlike day time when he saw most insectoids with indifferent attitudes walking around, now everyone was having smiles and talking about their day, the children who had come with their parents talked about their school day, what they would do tomorrow, and what they would play later, but their parents quickly shut down those plans since it was getting late.
The workers talked about how their boss put too much work on them since they were a bit behind on schedule since the work was too hard, or straight up said that they have cabbage head for a boss, while others just stayed quit and enjoyed the drink in their hand.
The waiters and waitresses were busy serving everyone but still had smiles on their faces.
Oliver really liked this place now, it gave off a really welcoming atmosphere.
As he continued to take a look around his gaze stopped on the person sitting next to him, he had green skin with antennas and looked to be in his mid 20, his face was above average, and he had a short black hair, and green eyes.
He had a smile on his face and seemed to try his best to drink what looked to be alcohol to look more mature in front of the girl before him, she however seemed to be uninterested, at first glance he might seem a bit pitiful, but if you looked around you would see the look of respect in the eyes of the people who looked at him and the beautiful girls who sneaked a peak at him every now and then showing obvious interest in him but didn’t even take a second glance at Oliver.
Of course Oliver really didn’t care about that, and he didn’t disagree with those opinions as well, but he got to say this dude really gave a different feeling now and before.
This was the dude who fought the bull in the afternoon, who even made Oliver take notice of him, he was the guardian of this town and the peoples daily life, its normal for them to have affection towards this young protector.
But after thinking about the situation a bit he couldn’t help but slightly chuckle.
Now he thought this night wouldn’t be boring for a different reason, than the one he initially thought of.
He looked at the waitress in front of guy and saw her name tag which he didn’t notice before.
Oliver ” Violet, I would like to order please”
The girl stopped paying attention to the most famous guard in front of her and turned around, a smile appeared on her face when she saw Oliver there, making the man in front of her turn to take a look as well.
Oliver looked at them and smiled a bit mischievously “ahh, I forgot to introduce myself before, I am Oliver, nice to meet you”
