Upon entering the building, they were greeted with a massive staircase that was split to two parts with one going to the right and other to the left.
The ground floor, where Kazuhiko and Yamikuro were on, had a massive corridor that led to multiple classes and on the right seemed to be a cafeteria.
"Is this a school building?" Yamikuro asked as they started going up the stairs.
"Oh that's right, I forgot to mention it. Your everyday life can continue here, if you go to school, you can still do it here. However if you have a job, you need to try to find one outside of the hideout. If you're unable to do, you can find a job here but it's very limited." Kazuhiko responded.
"I don't understand how this works. Aren't there tons of people in this hideout?" Yamikuro asked.
"Uh... Yes but this building is massive. We have years 1-12 and then after that you can get a job. We also have multiple villages surrounding this building in which you can live. We have enough room for everyone, don't worry." Kazuhiko responded while scrathing his head.
After making their way up through multiple floors, they arrived in front of the head of this society's door.
Kazuhiko knocked on the door and a lady from the other side told them they could come in.
Before opening the door, Kazuhiko looked at Yamikuro and said: "Don't worry. This is going to be fine."
Yamikuro nervously answered: "Yeah..."
When they entered the room, there was a desk in front of a massive window in which you could see the entire courtyard along with some villages in the distance.
The lady who was sitting behind the desk said: "Welcome, you must be Yamikuro Asaki."
"That's me." He responded.
She then introduced herself: "My name is Kendra Monroe, I'm the head of this society. It's great to finally meet you."
She then added, "I have already notified the teachers about you and you can start as a student here tomorrow. If it's too sudden I can give you a week to prepare."
"No. Tomorrow should be fine." Yamikuro took a breath of relief, "School could take my mind off everything."
"Very well. Take your schedule from my table." She responded.
"Unfortunately we don't have a room ready for you since they're assigned with the teams people are on. You'll be able to meet them tomorrow so take a day off today to explore or you can rest, I'm sure all of this is overwhelming so I wouldn't blame you for wanting to lay in bed after all this." Kendra said with a smile.
"How am I going to rest if I don't have a room?" Yamikuro asked confusingly
"We have a building for that, you can actually see it from this window behind me. I'm sure Kazuhiko can guide you there." Kendra said while pointing to it slightly.
"Uhh... Yeah sure, I can bring him there." Kazuhiko responded.
"You're both free to go." Kendra smiled still.
While they were walking down the stairs, Kazuhiko said: "See? It wasn't that bad, she's a nice person."
Yamikuro started laughing quietly, "Yeah, she actually is nice. I'm happy to be here."
"Do you want to get some food? I know a nice place in this village." Kazuhiko added.
Yamikuro looked at him with a smile, "Sure. I only managed to eat a little bit of lunch before a god attacked us."
"A GOD?!" Kazuhiko got shocked.
Everyone in the hallway started looking at him and he realized he said it too loudly.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
He coughed and said: "Sorry. Did you say a god?"
Yamikuro nodded, "There was a god that came looking for my powers and he killed my great uncle..."
"I'm so sorry to hear that. But what's so special about your powers?" Kazuhiko said while he opened the entrance door to get to the courtyard.
"I don't even know that myself. The only thing I know about it is that it's called the darkness." Yamikuro responded trying not to think too much about Bernardo's death.
"The darkness? I think I've heard about it. We should have a couple of books about it in the library." Kazuhiko replied.
"So my powers are this popular? I wonder why that god wanted it." Yamikuro said while looking around.
"I'm not sure myself but you should check out some of the books in the library when you get the chance. Apparently they found it lying on the ground here." Kazuhiko said.
As they were walking towards the food place Kazuhiko had recommended, Yamikuro kept looking around and there were people walking around everywhere.
This place didn't feel different from the world with humans that didn't have powers, except for the kids that were using their powers.
"Hey, what kind of powers do these people have?" Yamikuro asked.
"Well... I'm glad you asked. People have five different elemental powers. The most common ones are fire, water, air and earth. However, there's also people who have lighting powers but that's really rare to have. On top of those powers everyone can add their unique techniques to them." Kazuhiko said
After some silence he added: "In your case though, I don't think the darkness is yours. It's like using someone else's powers as your own."
"So how do I find what kind of elemental power I have?" Yamikuro asked.
"I'm not sure if you even have one... But if you do, you'll find it out someday."
They arrived at the small dining place after talking with each other about powers for a while.
"This is it, my favorite place to get food." Kazuhiko said.
When they entered the building a woman behind the counter noticed them and yelled: "Kazuhiko!"
Yamikuro and him sat at one side of the counter while the woman stood on the other side of the counter.
"So, how has your day been?" The woman asked
"As usual. I have a lot of work, could I get some coffee?" Kazuhiko said while looking at her.
The woman kept smiling in front of Kazuhiko while they were chatting.
"Is she your girlfriend?" Yamikuro asked.
Both of their faces went red and they looked away from each other.
"O-of course not. We're just friends." Kazuhiko replied.
Yamikuro looked back and forth between them and said, "Oh my bad, I'm sorry."
In his head he knew they both liked each other but he pretended not to know.
Kazuhiko then tried to change the subject, "So uh... This is Yamikuro Asaki."
She raised her hand over the counter to shake his hand, "Yamikuro, huh? My name is Mai Elsher, pleased to meet you!"
"Do you want anything to eat?" She then asked.
"Sure, I don't have much appetite though." Yamikuro said while looking down.
"Don't worry, I'll give you something I always go for during these situations." Mai replied.
When she went to the kitchen, Yamikuro looked around the dining place. It didn't seem to have many people in it.
Yamikuro and Kazuhiko were the only ones sitting on the counter seats. Everyone else were sitting at table seats. The tables at the furthest back had a couch, which quite a lot of people were using and they seemed to be drinking beer. The first table was occupied by a couple, who seemed to be on a date and the same was with the fourth table at this dining place but instead of young people, an elderly couple were using it.
When she returned a few minutes later, she was holding a small plate of toast and a cup of coffee.
"Let me know if you want more. It's on me." Mai said.
"Thank you but I think this is enough for me." Yamikuro responded.
She smiled and handed a cup of coffee to Kazuhiko.
Yamikuro was eating it one small bite at a time while Kazuhiko was sipping on coffee and talking with Mai.
After Yamikuro ate the toast and Kazuhiko finished his coffee, they got up and Kazuhiko waved at Mai.
"See you tomorrow." He said.
"Yeah, see you!" She responded as they were leaving.
It was starting to get dark outside and they were walking towards the place where Yamikuro was supposed to be sleeping.
"After everything that has happened, this was fun. Thank you." Yamikuro said.
Kazuhiko smiled and felt his heart melt, "I'm glad you liked it. Let me know if you ever need someone to show you around."
They walked past multiple streets and when they finally arrived at the building where Yamikuro was sleeping, Kazuhiko gave Yamikuro a nod, "See you tomorrow, Yamikuro."
"Yeah, see you!" Yamikuro responded.
He then went inside the building and it seemed to be like a hostel.
There was a receptionist behind a counter and when he saw Yamikuro, who was slowly walking to the counter, he asked: "Are you Yamikuro Asaki?"
"Yes, that's me." He responded.
"The head of this society already let me know you were coming. Your room is the furthest one on the right." The receptionist said.
"Thank you." Yamikuro replied while looking towards it.
He walked to his room through the narrow corridor, he could hear the other people through the walls as he was walking.
When he entered his room, he was greeted with just one bed, a closet and a desk.
After looking around he decided to take a shower.
When he was ready to go to bed, he noticed clean clothes on his bed.
He didn't want to give up the clothes the old man had given him but at the same time they were dirty and ruined. After a little bit of thinking, he decided to pick up the new clothes from the bed and he changed into them to see if they fit.
He put on a blue jacket along with blue sweatpants and a white t-shirt under it.
After checking out his new clothes, he took them off and went to bed.
