Chapter 2: This dreamy world.

The Sand Hydra's trace of burrowing was noticeable. The sand swelled as they swum their advance towards Viktor who was now bracing for the attacks of the three Rank D Hydras.

After a few blink of an eyes. The Sand Hydras finally showed its horrendous visage. With its mouth opened to instantly swallow Viktor whole. Viktor immediately braced a middle stance with his [Statik Shiv] crackling with lightning.

This was the sign that his occasional passive spell [Statik Shiv] was now finished charging.

The Sand Hydras immediately lunged forth towards Viktor, and Viktor tumbled a small steps backwards and made the three unintelligent hydras struck each other with their own attacks.

Viktor couldn't suppress his imminent laughter and proceeded to hack the Sand Hydras away with his charged [Statik Shiv].

The small knife easily penetrated the hardened scales of the Sand Hydras. Because his knife was embued with the earth element. Making it durable and penetrative.

After Viktor penetrated the Sand Hydras one by one by using a downward stab. He immediately backed himself and stabbed his small knife upwards and howled.

"Release!"

With Viktor's bellow. A small crackling of light descended towards the water element based Sand Hydras.

And as expected. Because of the law of element opposition. The lightning element was stronger than the water element. Immediately electrocutied the three Sand Hydra's which fell unto the barren land lifelessly.

"Hah... Hah... Serves you right."

Viktor's ragged voice again echoed towards the environment. The previous fight made his thirstiness and physical tiredness even kicked up a notch.

The scorching heat of the sun intensified since noontime. Now. With an unspecified time of the day. The heat slightly was slightly reduced for about three celcius, But was still scorching hot.

"Hah... Hah... Hah..."

Viktor's ragged voice echoed around the scorching barren land, and the ticking of the dripping water moisturized the lifeless land on which it fell into.

Viktor's physical capabilities was already pushed to the limits, and carrying a child with him was forcing his ragged body furthermore to the realm of tiredness.

"Ten kilometers more..."

Viktor gasped and pushed his knees to take one more step. His water reservoir was already emptied out, Even so. He shook it unto his mouth to pinch even just one more drop of water.

His water reservoir was supposed to be two water bottles, and his backpack's contents were two water bottles and two Sakrytia Sandwiches. Both for his personal consumption. But since he was carrying this mysterious boy. He was very careful not to induce him to heatstroke, and occasionally made him drunk water.

The result was very obvious. Due to the sharing of water. Viktor's water reservoir was halved. Since his personal average consumption of water for just travelling in the desert in a sedentary form would cause him to drink about one and a half bottles. He was now very tired.

His throat still had its small moisture of saliva of which is the only boundary between the thin line of unconsciousness and consciousness. Viktor was now dangling on this thread. Slowly drifting to the line of unconsciousness.

Even so he walked... Viktor walked in a determined manner... He didn't stop just to take a rest. He knew that he was very near to his objective. The town of Drasilia.

----------------------------------------

The sizzling heat of the sun was slowly being reduced by a number of degrees celcius as the sun pressed its pace on hiding from the visages of the townspeople.

The current time could be called as late afternoon. Or [Hapon] on Drasilian terms. The prickling feeling of the sun was now cooler than noontime, and people were now noticeably packing.

As if they're in a hurry. People are pressing themselves to swiftly clean their outside merchandises, and barricaded themselves unto their stony homes.

Even the Slave Merchant "Bodin" couldn't hold his worries and immediately ordered the sedentary slaves to pressingly clean the outside merchandises as soon as possible.

This town called Drasilia was an enlivening town at day. But it becomes very dangerous at night. The main reason was Sand Hydras, Paralyzing Snakes, Soul Sucker, and other monstrous adversities becomes highly active at night. Even the knights stationed at the city gates were frantically moving around, and ordering those lower than their ranks to close the city gates, and prevent any entries from foreigners until dawn.

Some knights activated anti evil magic tools and anti monsters magic tools, and even stationed monks with a pillar like formation just to erect a very powerful barrier to prevent those with evil affinity or darkness affinity in their reins.

One of the stationed monks called "The Immovable" because of his impenetrable defenses was even called just to erect a strong barrier for this particular night. This night was the night of the haunted. The night where the veil is the thinness.

The Veil which borders the great flow of darkness and light from the human realm. Where unimaginable evil was residing.

This man called Sarkysia "The Immovable" couldn't even hold his fears as he stationed his most powerful barrier. He had hoped into himself that nothing out of place will happen.

Or so that's his expectations.

But there was something out there.

There was something moving amidst the vast span of darkness. Where the light from their artificial tools couldn't even reach.

Sarkysia pinched his eyes together and focused his eyesight towards the mysterious embodiment. It had the figure of a human, But he couldn't be sure. He couldn't let his guard down to use a lighting spell. That's because in this continent. There exist creatures that could shape themselves into that of a human.

Say for example a [Revenant] a monster that is commonly active at anytime of the day. They targets lonely adventurers and pose as a beautiful woman in need. And when the adventurers helps them. The last figure that they would see was their head flying across the land. [Revenant] was that sneaky of a monster.

Beaded sweats formed around Sarkysia as the enigmatic creature moved itself towards the walled city. Even though its movements were slow. It was still approaching the city in a constant manner.

Sarkysia once again pinched his eyes together and fixated his gaze towards the creature.

[Weird... If that's a monster, It would be jumping around and crazily approach the city in a fast paced manner. But... This one is not. It's like a bow being pulled outwards. Slowly but surely... It will hit the target... Damn it!]

Sarkysia realized once more that he still couldn't let his guard down and cancel the erecting barrier.

[Should I call for reinforcements? No... That would be time consuming. If I cancel this erecting barrier, who knows what would that monster do!]

Sarkysia already fixed his mindset that it was a monster. There was nothing more as an explanation. Drasilia was a town lively at day but ferocious at night. So there were no cases of people visiting, or even traveling near the vicinity of this town at night. That's the reason why Sarkysia highly doubt the case of this moving enigma as a human.

[I'll take care of this myself! I can't let that monster enter here!]

Sarkysia placed a small thumbs up figurine near the city wall's edge and brought small parch of papers from his monk uniform.

"Talisman of Lightning!"

Sarkysia thrusted the talisman glowing in a blue sheen of light towards the never ending darkness. And as a response. A medium sized crackling of light forced itself from the talisman and advanced towards the pressing adversity.

Sarkysia once again pinched his together and observed the arc of lightning's advance towards the enigmatic creature. But just as it was about to hit the monster. It was deflected towards the nearby ground, and dissipated to nothingness.

"!"

Sarkysia's alert level was raised towards the roof and he focused his mental strength into deducing the potential strength of this walking wretched creature.

[Since my Rank B offensive spell was deflected... This monster must be.. Rank A? No.... Rank S?! Damn it! I should call for reinforcements.]

Sarkysia deduced from his personal experience the rank of the current enigmatic monster walking towards the walled city. Just as he deduced the numbers. Sarkysia hated the fact that he couldn't do anything about this fiend. Sarkysia was a Rank SS in defenses, But ranked B at offensive. That's the reason why Sarkysia could only use defensive spells when defeating adversaries.

That's the reason why he was named as "The Immovable" He was immovable at the battlefield, Since he would just wait for his enemy to attack, and reflecting their attacks was the only reason why he could win. He wanted to attack the enemy but he couldn't. His offensive capabilities was just not enough to fell this current enemy.

Just as Sarkysia was preparing to cast his levitation spell. The enigmatic creature fell unto the cold lifeless ground and failed to move.

[What the?...] Sarkysia could only reveal a monotone thought. But it was very obvious that he was relieved. And he was angry to the fact that he was relieved.

[Am I this weak?] Sarkysia placed his palm towards his face, and swallowed his own words. He couldn't suppress the feeling of curiosity and glanced towards the fallen monster.

[Now that its closer. Its figure was becoming more and more humane.] Sarkysia gulped a mouthful of saliva as he looked towards the endless night.

[Should I check it?...]

[No... no... no...] Sarkysia shook his head side by side as to dispel the thoughts of going down and inspecting the monster if it was dead or not.

But a small green light shadowed over him, and made him rethink his thoughts.

{I should check it.]

{Since It's completed anyways I should just check it.] Sarkysia revealed a small smile as he activated his levitation spell and levitated outside the walled city. He brought his ragged bag with him, and smiled mirthfully as he descended.

The reason was very simple. It was very hard to hunt monsters at the time when their most active in. Which was the night. But hunting monsters for money in this time of the day was very ideal. Since their body parts would be very active. If they were killed at night, Their value would increase by folds since their body parts would be the freshest at night. So hunting them down at night is very ideal if you want huge folds of money at once, But the danger is doubled.

The absence of the sun makes their primal instincts temporarily boosted. That's why hunting them at night is very hard, Since their powers would be doubled. Let's say a [Revenant] was hunting a Sand Hydra at night. A Revenant's darkness affinity would surge making them much more swift than they are at day.

Sarkysia couldn't suppress his imminent laughter as he approached the fallen monster. Who would not be happy to see a Rank A monster which was relatively hard to hunt even at day collapse at night? Butchering them for their body parts would double his income by three folds.

Sarkysia giggled to the thought of having a Rank A monster's body parts for free without hassle and risks. He would be instantly rich by just one day.

And even if this Rank A monster was still alive. He could just finish it with his defensive spell bashes and collect the body parts for himself.

Sarkysia slowly advanced himself towards the fallen monster and his eyes widened towards the sight. It was not a monster in the first place. It was a human. What's more a child and a young man.

As Sarkysia opened his thought to scrutiny. He approached the child and the young man in a slow manner, and observed their physical features.

The child was a boy predictably at the age of ten, and his physical features were average for a Drasilian, Delving his thoughts to the deep.

And the young boy looked like on his sixteens and seemed like he was a native in this city. Just his featured alone made it noticeable. The averagely built body, and his violet hair made it even more convincing. He wanted to furthermore investigate this man, but he couldn't as he would be out of range from the barriers protection of which was activated earlier.

Sarkysia fell into deep thoughts again.

{If these two were natives here. Then why would be outside the walled city at this time of the day? If they were really natives... They would've already known that heading outside at late hapon is forbidden!]

Sarkysia still couldn't shake off the thoughts of the two being a Revenant or a Shapeshifter, and decided to cast a small divine spell. Which would prove If his earlier thought were true.

"Exorcism!"

A small white light emanated from his outstretched hands and pierced the sleeping visages of the two. But the expected happening didn't happen. Instead, The only thing that replied was the cold winds blowing towards the three figures.

Sarkysia fell as he inhaled great amounts of oxygen. He unconsciously blurted out "Thank god" as he fell towards the barren lands which were now cold due to the blowing winds.

----------------------------------------

The cold blowing winds from the night were encroaching towards the walled city. Some people even wrapped themselves into double fold clothing as they barricaded themselves into their houses.

In the middle of this quiet neighborhood. There was a shivering woman holding her body together to keep the cold winds sated.

"Hahh... Hahh... Viktor." Leila couldn't sate her worries as a small stream of liquid flowed from her face. That's because she understood the danger of this town, and its vicinity. Viktor was Rank C capable of defeating foes at the Rank of B with his [Statik Shiv]. That's why Leila trusted him. But now... Leila was blaming herself for his death.

"I should've stopped you that time!" Leila was now crying uncontrollably. Noises of sucked mucus sourced from her and echoed towards the silent vicinity.

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!" A thunderous bellow that originated from the inside of the stony home behind her shook Leila's stressed mind, and made her resurface back from reality.

Leila could hear the murmurs of her fellow slaves from one of the stony homes as she wiped her tears from his mellow cheeks. Leila stood up with a steeled resolve. Even If the cooled winds kills her. She would still force herself to find Viktor. Her most beloved friend.

Leila was crying as she approached the nearest city gate. She turned her head around the area and observed them carefully.

There were figures of five different people on top of the walled city. All of them was a monk. Leila couldn't understand what they're doing there since she was not a native of this city and still didn't know the dangers lurking outside of this walled city.

She approached the city gate at a constant pace, But was stopped by a small green of light covering everything. Even her.

Leila once again shook her head around the area and saw a person levitating from the air heading towards the barren land.

Leila didn't knew why, but she ran towards that floating figure and saw two monks pulling a person. Leila slowed her approach as deep feelings surged from her. She couldn't believe it. The most important person in her life was now here. Fallen unto the lifeless land, and being pulled inside by a bald monk.

"VIKTOR!!!" Leila cried as she stumbled down, shook the monk from stopping her and clutched the most important person in her life.

"Huwaaa!"

The two monks unconsciously covered their ears as they led out a small remark of which was inaudible for Leila who didn't think of anything from the sight of her beloved Viktor.

"Ghnnggg!"

Leila finally calmed down and wiped her tears from her cheeks. She still couldn't believe it. Viktor was alive and kicking!

She glanced at the two monks struggling to pull a small child inside the walled city.

That's because, As if there was an invisible wall. The small child couldn't be pulled inside and was stuck between the invisible wall.

"Pull once more!!!"

The shiny head monk shouted towards the other shiny head monk, and they pulled the small child together.

"Gnnnghhh!!!" The two monks closed their eyes in concentration as small cracks formed around the invisible wall. The child was being pulled inside, but the barrier was being cracked. The only reason why the monks didn't realized this was because their eyes were closed.

The invisible wall of which was the barrier was eradicated as the small child entered the vicinity of the walled city. But the two monks still didn't noticed it, and just revealed a sigh of relief.

Leila saw the barrier broken, but didn't think much of it as she didn't understood the purpose of such weakened barrier. Even if she was a mage herself. She was not that much of a high ranked, and so. She didn't understood high level barriers, and as to why they're used.

But they didn't understand what's about to happen. Since the barrier was unknowingly destroyed. Two glowing pairs of red eyes emanated from the spanning darkness of the night. It radiated an aura of terror of which was dissipated because of the protective spells the two monks were using.

But Leila felt it. She could feel the smell of death slowly encroaching towards her. Like a giant carnivore in front of her. She quivered in response to this deathly aura.

"Hnngghhh..." She tightly clutched Viktor as the deathly aura slowly dissipated into nothingness.

But that was just a sample as to what's gonna happen... Little did the city of Drasilia understood the events that would unfold.

That this night would be called. "The Night of Descent."
