Chapter 9

Wilford wakes up, his head groggy and aching, his vision hazy, as if he was drunk.

He looks outside of the tent. He could hardly see but it was dark out.

Wilford hears a grumble and covers his stomach. Tears threaten to fall from Wilford's eyes; it felt like his stomach was on fire.

“What happened?” He asks.

The system laughs. “Your lady drugged you then robbed you of all your belongings. You slept the whole day and it’s already the evening.” The system says, amused.

Wilford tries to recall. “I had a wonderful dream.” He says, sighing.

The system chuckles. “You better do something young Wilford. If you go any longer, you won’t have the energy to move, then you’ll starve to death.” The system says.

Wilford frowns. “Damn, I really wish I knew magic.” He says, hoping to conjure up some food.

The system smirks. “A bit of good news. While you were dreaming, the surrounding magical energy became playful, and much of it has gathered in your body. You might be trash, but you’re a lucky piece of trash, I’ll give you that. This could be the end of your days as a magically stagnant idiot.” The system says.

Wilford smiles, examining his body, and feeling the energy. He felt both his warrior’s energy and his magical energy flowing. “This is great.” He says, before suddenly thinking of something and allowing the energy to circulate around his body. Slowly, the feeling of weariness faded and his hazy vision cleared up.

The system lets out a sigh. “I was hoping it would take you a moment to figure it out. Yes, with all that energy in your system, you’ll no longer need to be sustained on simple mortal food. Alas, such is fate, if you seek to cultivate, you must slowly shed your mortality.” The system says, hoping Wilford would have struggled for a little longer.

In truth, this was a significant jump from Wilford previous position. There were multitudes of warriors who were desperate to awaken their Warrior’s energy, and the fools who wish they knew magic were like the stars in the sky.

Just with this level of cultivation, Wilford would not need to worry about feeding himself ever again. He was still poor, with a large debt, but now he actually had the ability towards working it off.

Wilford thinks of the possibilities, and suddenly, he lets out an evil laughter. “With this… I’ll conquer the world.” He says foolishly.

The system lets out a laugh. “Trash is still trash in the end.” He says, amused.

The system was in the middle of giving Wilford a lesson in magic. “Magical energy naturally has the ability to seek out and fulfill desires. It feels the hunger of your stomach, so it will naturally react to it. If you open your senses and feel the energy within you, you’ll slowly be able to feel it; if you’re good enough at it, and you can understand it, your magical energy will lead you towards what you desire.” The system says.

Wilford looks deep in thought, before sitting down and beginning to meditate. He mustered as much of his senses as he could and began to feel the energy in his body. It was dancing and pulsing, in a weird rhythm, and slowly, he began to understand it. It was like the growls and meows of a pet dog or cat, only someone with a simple mind could understand it so easily, but Wilford was closer to a beast than a man, so it almost seemed natural that he would be able to understand it.

Slowly he got up. His senses expanded, and he could feel it. The animals scurrying in the forest. In the wild bush, there was food for him to eat. Wilford picks up a rock, and begins his hunt.
