Where'd You Go?!

Hey there all! I just wanted to leave a quick announcement here. I apologize for the hiatus: I had a hectic holiday, which included getting engaged! As such, life has been a bit of a whirlwind for these past few weeks. I had to take some time to get things sorted, but I’m back in the saddle again and gearing up to resume posting. Thank you to those who have stuck around. To keep you in the loop, uploads will continue this Friday, the 20th, at 6 PM EST.

I have been doing some deep digging into my behind-the-scenes notes, considering comments about my characters, my worldbuilding, and what works and what doesn’t. Your feedback has been monumentally helpful for two reasons. One being that this is a first draft, so it’s helped me get a feel for what's working and what isn’t. Secondly, this is the first time I’ve ever actually posted anything of mine online for the proverbial world to see. Based on feedback both from you and from beta readers, I will be making some tweaks to the chapters that have already been uploaded (dealing primarily with the first few POV chapters on William’s side, information about how the magic system works, and characterization of the Archive.) Most of this will just be reshuffling where information is given, to make a more cohesive narrative for both you and new folks to enjoy. It will not be an entire rewrite, and for the most part, you can continue reading without encountering any snags or confusion.

I will be including some cliff notes sometime between now and Friday detailing whatever has been tweaked. I’ll also be giving a breakdown of where the tweaks have happened, for those who prefer to actively go back and read the alterations. The cliff notes will be given under spoilers, so that those who prefer to figure it out via reading alone may do so. If you do choose to do some ‘re-reading,’ I would be grateful for comments on changes made!

Stolen novel; please report.

On another, tragic note, I’ve learned that we’ve suffered a loss in our community. One of RR’s authors, Matador (Terrell Garrett,) has unexpectedly passed away. If you are capable of giving, there is a GoFundMe circulating around, whose link I will leave in the author notes below. Matador was the author of Psycho Duel Revelations and Monster Menu.

Thank you.

So I can meet word count, I'll include a quote from one of my favorite authors, the illustrious Sir Terry Pratchett, from the book Men at Arms: The Play:

“The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.”
