PROLOGUE

It’s a grand day of shine, comfort, unity in a school fitting for any middle schooler who’s born with the privilege of natural beauty. Boys, barely any of them are born with this gift, and when they are in their prime, they take advantage of that gift! But, girls? Girls girls, to them, it’s the greatest right given to them by birth; their faces and bodies are enough to mesmerize a stupid young boy into lust by his ticking clock of puberty. Though for the poor boys they can’t have that same privilege a majority at the time; Although, there are a few who aren’t so lucky. And this story's about one unlucky individual, or so she thinks. There’s a girl who’s below average, built normally, and wasn’t so lucky to have these privileges the majority of girls happen to have.

Sitting in her classroom, paying close attention to the teacher's lesson, this young girl is described as below average amongst the young society. Her name happens to be Desy, a girl who’s recently turned 13 years old, but as every birthday she’s celebrated since birth, it was only celebrated with her loving single mother. Having eyes of blue, regular Caucasian skin, and brunette hair, the freckles on her face embarking innocence, with all these attributes Desy should be able to fit these descriptions that are perfectly described as earlier. Sadly though, she’s below or just average to the rest of the girls in her school. She didn’t care though, her academics were very important to her, so romance is the last thing on her mind… But I digress!”

The pencil in her hand froze in place, her pupils dilating from a random thought hinduring her school performance.

Oh god, I’m losing focus… I’m-I’m thinking about him again! She thought.

This thought and abundance of romance, oh how her early adolescent mind taunted her of this trivial feeling! The teacher continued her lesson, but Desy’s mind was fogging. Can she continue the lesson or is the end to her perfect record of paying attention? Well it’s about to be tested because the teacher just stopped and pointed her marker in the direction of Desy’s oblivious state!

“Miss Desy, what is the answer to this equation, my perfect student?” she asked with a smile on her face.

Students around her who were either half asleep, dozing off, or not giving a single toot in the world waited for Desy’s answer as always. Though this time she didn’t quickly answer as she normally would. Some students took notice, and saw her lost in thought. The teacher too saw her precious student struggling with some unknown trance.

“Uhh… Desy…” she said as she approached her desk with a worried expression.

The teacher, she’s a tall strong independent caucasian woman who needed no man! With looks and a figure falling into the category of being said to be born beautiful, although, none of that mattered when you’re so focused on yourself and play hard to get; made her stay single for 10 years.

The teacher placed her hands on her hips, waiting for her student to answer her back.

“Desy… hello? My perfect student Desy!”

Desy, she’s lost so deep in her thoughts of love and prosperity that the world around her started swirling and flash hearts from the corner of her eyes. Who could cloud her precious smart mind with such a nuisance that’ll get in her way to a path of success?

Oh god… he’s-he’s taking his…! She thought, grabbing her frozen hand.

Her eyes swirled, her mouth was opened, her cheeks turning super red, Desy faints from these overpowering thoughts of love, falling off her seat to the ground. Her teacher and the students around her got to her aid as she laid on the ground perpetuated by the feeling of love.

In this day and age, it’s only normal to experience these emotions, especially during your time of early teenage hood. But for someone who’s never experienced this once in their early childhood, this was a new world to Desy. As Desy’s being escorted to the nurses office, being pulled by the school stretcher in a crowded hallway, one person saw her and noticed her existence. A young boy, having side swept black hair, brown eyes, a lean built figure, and glasses belonging to that of a nerd, but in his case he’s ranked as one of the most attractive boys in their grade.

He ran up to the adults escorting her like a hero.

“Where are you taking her?!” he asked, trying to intervene between the adults.

One of the teachers carrying the front of the stretcher looked at him briefly.

“Not now kid, she fainted and we’re just taking her, that's all.”

The other teacher in the back of the stretcher sighed.

“That’s the snippet we got so please don’t be in our way boy.”

Hearing their short empty explanations wasn’t enough to drive the kind teen away, it only made him feel more worried for her safety.

“Desy… Desy! Hey, could I at least follow you both?”

A sigh and a nod was his answer from them.

“Cool, hang in there Desy!” He said, following behind them so he could be beside the girl who he’s so worried for.

As they grabbed the attention of every student in the hallway, girls gossiped, some gave an evil eye towards Desy, and boys couldn’t comprehend why he’s so worried about such a below average girl. What they haven’t figured out though is that this is the boy who’s actually giving Desy these thoughts of such hardship and purging her mind with it. His name happens to be Andre; he’s two years older than her, but on her level in terms of academics.

Both were in the nurse's office now and had been for some time, roughly about two hours. Desy’s awaking from her temporary slumber. As she opened those hidden blue gemstones of untapped beauty, looking to her side she spotted him. The boy who she’s madly crushing on, the very one intoxicating her mind. With a worried look on his face, he was seated by her side and watched as she woke up.

With a grin on his face, Andre sighs with relief.

“Ah, I see you’re awake Desy, that’s a relief! I thought you were hurt or those damn girls bullied you again, but thankfully it was nothing major.”

He expressed a smile, a grand smile that every time it’s shown to Desy it washed away her burdens. Oh how she loved seeing his pearly white smile, it wasn’t artificial, it was genuine, wholesome, and it had the feelings of care behind it. She wanted to share his smile too, so she expressed an adorable grin as the two looked into each other's eyes. She soon regretted that because she got flustered and cowered under the sheets. Andre laughed watching her reacting so adorably, and once his laughter of cleansing hope hit Desy’s eardrums stained with hatred by the girls in their school, she felt her soul being healed by his sounds of unity.

“I uh… I fa-fainted…” she murmured.

Andre sighed again.

“Oh, well isn’t that surprising coming from you! You’re such an amazing listener that I thought you’d never allow yourself to let anything bring yourself to stray away from learning.”

She blushed as she heard his complement.

“You’re… too-too nice, Andre, but don’t worry. I’ll make up for the missed lessons by going back and getting notes from my teacher.”

Andre enjoyed her soft innocent voice, it always tickled his eardrums and made him feel happier.

He reaches for one of her hands, and pats her head.

“Oh Desy, this is why I only have you as a female friend and no one else. Like I said before, and I’ll always say this… You’re special, no matter how you look.”

Desy’s fully red, and she slaps his hand away and cowered back into the sheets.

“Stop… you’re-you’re embarrassing me, Andre… but I uh—have something to ask you…”

“Okay, tell me, Desy?”

She climbs out, and looks into his glistened eyes.

“Why are you so… nice to me, and care about me so much… It’s something I always ask myself everyday, night, Oh—Uh! Aheh… well you get the jist of it.”

Andre jumps a bit, and expresses a sign of embarrassment.

“Well… um, dang…” he scratched his cheek with a finger, looking away.

Desy noticed his slightly red face, and her heart skipped a few beats. Andre quickly brought himself together and brought out his smile again.

“Because Desy, you’re not like the other girls. Even girls who are in your league would never act the way you do. So in that sense, that’s why you’re special in my eyes… It goes with the old saying, ‘Don't judge a book by its cover’! Right?”

Andre then boldly grabbed her hand, causing her to almost faint again from all her emotions brewing inside her. Desy though didn’t allow herself to do so, she’s loving this wonderful moment and interlaced her fingers with his.

“Yeah… the same could go towards you, Andre…” she said in the tone he adored.

The two young teens embraced this wonderful moment, their bond seemed to have no bounds, and it looks as if they’ll never have anything or anyone come in between them… or is that so? Maybe something might get in the way or will it stay this way until something does happen… perhaps a bit of a tragedy in the making?
