“It is common knowledge that the first realm doesn’t allow cultivators to use energy based attacks but it doesn’t mean that physique tempering cultivators cannot learn abilities, albeit physical ones.” Master Bai speaks coldly while lecturing the two children in front of him.
Elizabeth and Felicia nod in agreement.
“Both of you have already reached the 6th level of Physique tempering, this is thanks to your monstrous talent but do not be arrogant and let it go to your head.” Elizabeth takes note of how fast she reached the 6th level in the dream world. It's due to her talent and the energy here is denser.
Sadly, her cultivation in the dream world stays in the dream world.
Felicia managed to keep pace with Elizabeth's cultivation but since her talent is inferior she had to give twice the effort.
“I’ve also decided to teach you both a basic martial technique since it might take a while for both of you to reach core tempering. It is also to give both of you a way to protect yourselves and in a few days, the monthly sect disciple tournament will happen, as my disciples you must participate.”
Elizabeth and Felicia looks at each other with confusion paired with apprehension.
“You might think it’s a little bit early for the two of you to enter live combat, but remember the best teacher is experience second only to death. Death is still the best teacher.”
Master Bai’s grim words scare the two a little.
“Si-Sir! Wouldn’t it be better for you to teach us more abilities?” Felicia nervously asks.
It would be better if Elizabeth and Felicia knew more abilities, since it would improve their versatility and flexibility.
“I agree but time is short and the ability I’m going to teach the both of you is very easy and very flexible. It can be added to almost any movement you do, allowing you to execute different attacks with the same ability.”
Elizabeth immediately perks up, this is what she needed.
In sects they have an annual testing for outsider cultivators with outstanding talents to enter.
In the modern world there exists another system just like that, it’s called the MHR.
The MHR or Meta Human Ranking is a test that ranks Meta humans on how powerful or how trained their abilities are. Once ranked, Meta humans can go on to apply to different Hero organizations, the Police force, or private companies.
Currently, the real world Elizabeth is only in the 3rd level of Physique Tempering. She managed to breakthrough after 10 days of continuous herb baths, needless to say her skin is flawless and Narissa can’t help but rip her handkerchief every time they meet.
After testing her strength out, she can easily lift 450 kg, release a punch of the same strength and release a kick of 550 kg. Her running speed managed to reach 40 kph.
Despite becoming stronger, she’s still far away from being on the same level as an average Meta human, strength wise. If she learns a new ability it might be able to bridge the gap between an average Meta human and her current cultivation.
“Its name is Mortal fist.”
While Felicia’s eyes glitter with excitement, Elizabeth frowns as her mind addresses a problem.
Do I have to shout it when I use it?
It isn’t uncommon for heroes to shout out special moves or attacks when fighting but that always made Elizabeth cringe. She can’t imagine herself screaming Mortal fist when fighting or saving other people.
“Is there a problem Elizabeth?” Elizabeth jolts in surprise at the sudden questioning but manages to reply immediately.
“No!” Master Bai nods and starts to impart the knowledge of the ability.
“Sir!” Master Bai stops and stares at Elizabeth indicating for her to continue.
“I just had to ask. When using this ability, do we have to scream its name or any of the sorts?” Elizabeth asks seriously but can’t help frowning, thinking that this is a stupid question to ask.
Master Bai eyes Elizabeth seriously and speaks with the utmost sincerity possible.
“Yes”
Well there goes my future dignity.
Elizabeth just nods.
Mortal Fist is a martial art that utilizes one’s physical strength with the most basic technique. It gathers all the strength in the body and releases it through the fist.
Usually users of this technique would be able to deliver a punch that’s three times stronger than their average punch.
Not only is this technique very effective, it is also very flexible, allowing multiple ways of using it.
The disadvantage to this is that its weaknesses are also very troublesome.
Once a cultivator’s realm is high enough their strength would be too high to be gathered easily, resulting in a slower release.
Another problem is that there are more powerful martial techniques than Mortal Fist once a cultivator reaches higher realms, making it obsolete.
Its last and most devastating weakness is that when the user gathers their strength, other body parts are more vulnerable and susceptible to damage.
“Shouldn’t we train a Martial Art that has no weakness?”
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
After a basic explanation, Master Bai passes on the martial technique onto Elizabeth and Felicia.
Visions flood in Elizabeth and Felicia's mind. The image of a younger Master Bai taking a stance, slowly gathering power in his fists and releasing it, flows into the mind of Elizabeth.
Only one thought remains.
Isn’t this a little bit too easy?
“Take position!” Elizabeth and Felicia takes a fighting stance.
“Gather your strength!” Elizabeth pulls back her fist, slowly feeling the coursing strength inside her body. Her fist fills with power but at the same time, she feels the weakness of her body.
This is quite a big weakness.
“Release!” Elizabeth and Felicia outstretch their arms and punch the air in front of them releasing a small shockwave of air.
*Boom*
“Good, your bodies are well. Nothing is wrong with them and if you master this simple move you can apply it to a thousand situations.” Master Bai seems satisfied with the performance of his disciples but before he finishes he adds.
“Remember it doesn’t mean something has been shown in front of you, it means that it is only that.”
What does that mean?
----------------------------------------
It’s been 10 days since Peter and Elizabeth’s last meeting and unsurprisingly, the handsome superhuman hasn’t appeared once.
Elizabeth didn’t allow herself to be perturbed and continued her cultivation, and through her effort, she managed to break through the second level and reach the third.
Despite all that, Elizabeth couldn’t fully ignore her thoughts.
When she’s not cultivating or working, she kept digging up information concerning Peter, under the name Oliver, since she didn’t know his real name.
“His background is perfect”
Elizabeth muttered clearly annoyed.
After digging around police files, hospital files, school files, and even work files, there is a person called Oliver Frost.
Everything inside is detailed and fixed to look perfect. The only thing is that it doesn’t register him as a Meta human.
Elizabeth’s trained eye can tell her that everything here is absolutely fake but messing with a lord rank Meta human at her current level is nothing short of suicide.
Obviously annoyed, Elizabeth shuts her laptop down and throws it on the other side of her bed and then lies down while staring at the ceiling.
Why does that guy have to be so damn attractive! If that man was any less mysterious or attractive I wouldn’t be this pissed.
When Elizabeth is threatened by someone she creates a wall against them, as to prevent being put in harm.
Peter managed to put a crack on those walls because of three things. The first thing is because of coincidence. When Elizabeth found out of the beauty of nature he was the first person to show her.
The second thing is because he granted one of her life long dreams, other than being a hero. That dream is to fly.
The last but probably the most illogical reason is his looks. Peter is handsome, and if she was asked, Peter is probably the most handsome man she’s met.
Curse my penchant for good looks.
Sighing, Elizabeth gives up. She can’t stop thinking of Peter. It’s mostly because of the fact that she can’t put out their last meeting out of mind.
Sunsets are beautiful
Frowning, Elizabeth immediately stands up. She goes to the living room and start clearing out her furniture, so she could have some space.
After clearing out all her, more than what her budget can take, furniture she stands at the center.
“Take position” Elizabeth mutters Master Bai’s words and takes a stance reminiscent of her dream.
“Hah!” Elizabeth punches out and releases a small clump of force weaker than the one in her dream.
It’s too weak.
Elizabeth knows the reason why the force she’s releasing is weak.
Other than the fact that she has a lower cultivation in this world, she’s experimenting on how to use the Martial art Mortal fist without its dangerous weakness.
At most, she can increase her strength by 50% more before her body starts to feel vulnerable.
After fiddling with her newly gained martial technique, she found out that she can transfer strength from the body to other parts, instead of just the fist.
It seems this was what Master Bai really wanted us to learn.
Elizabeth immediately started experimenting.
She tried increasing her whole body strength at first but that was impossible, since the strength used is simply transferred from different parts.
Then she tried increasing her upper body at the expense of her lower body, but the result was her speed taking a hit.
She tried increasing her lower body’s strength and it definitely increased her speed and kicking strength but her upper body becomes more vulnerable and her stamina tires faster.
How will I deal with this?
These thoughts were running in Elizabeth’s mind while thinking of a way to properly utilize this new ability.
I don’t like getting hit.
But there may be a time where I will need to act as a shield.
After all, a hero will never allow people to get hurt.
What is my hero style?
*Ring* *Ring*
Elizabeth looks to one of her tables and notices her phone ringing.
I'll continue this experiment later.
“Narissa?” Elizabeth looks at the familiar face in the phone and answers the call.
“LIZ!!” Narissa’s loud voice echoes from the phone.
“Narissa you’re too loud, tone it down a little.”
“Sorry, sorry anyway I have news!”
“hmmm?”
“A new recruit showed up and he’s cute as hell!” Elizabeth scrunches up her face and immediately thinks of Peter but pushes it down.
“Hell isn’t cute Narissa.”
“It’s an expression! Anyway he wants to meet you!”
“Meet me?”
“Yeah he wants to meet the so called *Goddess of the police department*.”
Narissa overstretched that last part.
“… Wait, when did I get called the Goddess of the police department?” Giggling comes from the phone.
“Well it used to be the beautiful law enforcer but when the news of you helping that poor old man and bravely maneuvering that burning car, people started calling you the Goddess.”
Elizabeth could feel the strong sarcasm Narissa is releasing.
“… You created that didn’t you?”
“… Yes”
“I hate you Narissa.”
“I love you too! Anyway come down here.” Hanging up, Elizabeth just sighs and starts preparing to go to the police station.
----------------------------------------
Inside a very spacious train is Elizabeth, still slightly annoyed at Narissa.
I’m so going to get her buy me something.
Wait, will I really need any of those gadgets? I can already cultivate.
The train is empty save for a few people including Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth reached the 3rd level of physique tempering her physical senses became sharper but there is something that her cultivation cannot raise. It’s intuition.
Even when she’s standing calmly, Elizabeth can feel people staring at her. Usually Elizabeth is used to the staring but right now, the stares are a little bit more than admiration.
While Elizabeth was experimenting with her newly learned martial technique, she managed to figure out how to gather her strength without taking a stance.
Its drawbacks are that she can only multiply her strength twice instead of thrice and the gathering of strength is slightly slower, but not slow enough to be impractical. Elizabeth starts gathering strength on her legs and prepares.
The train stops in Portal district.
Ready
*Train door opening*
Now!
“LIZ!!” Elizabeth’s sprinting start is interrupted by a familiar voice’s shout. The malicious stares disappear almost instantly the moment her name was called out.
It was Narissa. She was wearing her usual police uniform and her short brown hair looks conditioned while her face rings with energy.
She’s waving towards Elizabeth with her right hand and on her left is a plastic bag.
“Narissa that title you have to-” Before Elizabeth could begin berating her, Narissa brought out her plastic bag.
“Fried pig guts and I also added chicken guts in there.”
Elizabeth paused internally and externally.
If I accept this, I accept her apology. If I don’t I can change my name. But…..
Reluctantly Elizabeth swipes the plastic bag and starts walking while Narissa follows, obviously amused.
“Anyway Liz I told you to come down because of the cute guy in recruitment!”
“Narissa just spill it out, I know you wouldn’t call me for something that petty.” Narissa smiles and tilts her head, acting oblivious but eventually her smiles fades and her eyes narrow.
“Your brother came to visit.”
