A SECOND CHANCE

***Read this part if you failed to read the introduction****

**************The year is 2024 and the world as we knew has completely changed. There are no cell phones, no social media, no cars, and there are no movies you can go see on the weekend at the mall. Every day I think what could have happened if things had changed just a little. The world is a cruel place now where death is normal and life can only be protected if you are strong enough to defend yourself. Before we get into what is happening now it is important that y’all understand why and how this happened. The world governments destroyed most of the world in 2001 after the 09/11/01 attacks on the twin towers in New York. We are not sure who shot first but what we do know, is that there were more than 100 nuclear bombs shot off that day. The massive destruction that was caused by these bombs going off caused a unexpected development with the world. Somehow the bombs destroyed a object under the Earth’s soil which then caused the world to change greatly. The object that was destroyed was some sort of limiter that prevented the world from producing something called Qi. Qi is known by many different names as well, like magic for example. Do to this object getting destroyed the Earth, which we all assumed would be destroyed do to the nuclear fallout, was cleansed and reborn a new. The continents began to shift and the world as we knew it had completely changed. As things changed we realized that the things we used to enjoy, internet, cell phones, guns, machines, nearly every single thing that we took for advantage back then, now was found to not work. It was as if the new world had a mind of it’s own and would interfere with the mechanical workings of our everyday items. It left us with many questions and not a lot of answers that was until the hidden cultivators appeared and then we knew they were the ones with the real power now. In order to live in this world of chaos strength is the only power that matters. The weak shall die but the strong may live, that is the life of a cultivator. Follow me on this road of cultivation where technology no longer exists and the world is filled with hidden dangers. *****************

It has been 23 years since the world, as we knew it, had ended. I am a loose cultivator who has wandered the unknown and I have seen much of this new world. There have been many battles and many close encounters which nearly cost me my life. One starry night I was exploring a cave which I believed to be the grave of a great and powerful cultivator. It was a narrow tunnel which then leads into an open cavern where the star light was able to point directly to the corpse of the dead cultivator. I slowly approached to examine the remains when all of a sudden a ghost like man appeared above the cultivator. “I am the Master of this place. How dare you approach me!” I began to turn around and run the hell out of there but then as I got to the tunnel a force came over me and he was able to stop me from moving even a inch. “You think you can come here and then leave as you see fit?!” I could only swallow and pray that he wouldn’t kill me. He moved his hand in a come here motion as I began to move toward him powerlessly. “Mortal do you fear me? You fear only because you are too weak to resist me. Do you seek to become more powerful?” I was in shock and could only simply reply, “Yes”. With a swish of his hand he had completely destroyed my cultivation that I spent many years on, making me only a normal person with no ability to use Qi. At this point, even though I knew I could do nothing to him, I screamed and cursed him with every ounce of my being. “So now you are finally showing some back bone I see. That is good because next I will take your life!” I was in a uncontrollable rage and could barely hear what he had said next. “You shall have a second chance… do not waste…death will come.. hehehe this is my…the end is only one step in a new world…hehehe!!” All of a sudden everything went dark and when I opened my eyes again I was in a classroom. I immediately jumped up and let out a scream that shook everyone’s bones to the core and then I passed out.

Once I woke back up from the utter shock of not dying I realized that not only was I not dead but in fact I was a kid again. I was a 16 year old boy in my junior year of high school!!! I was in such a shock after waking, that I jumped up and ran to the windows to look outside. I saw that the world was back to how I remembered it as a child. “John are you okay? What are you doing?” my teacher asked. I looked around the class room still in a shock and was able to utter a couple words, “Yes sir. I had a nightmare.” Of course after saying this, the entire class began to laugh and make fun of me but I knew that the real nightmare was only a year away. I finished up my day in school in a daze not paying attention to anything around me and not really speaking to anyone. I have not only been sent back in time but I was also able to keep my memoires of all those years wondering and cultivating and knew many things that would help me in the future. I knew now that this “Second chance” the ghost had mentioned was this. I was now able to learn from my mistakes and begin to plan for the unavoidable destruction and rebirth of this world.

After school was over I ran home to see my mother. I haven’t seen her in over 20 years and was longing for that family connection once again. I opened the door to my home and there she was, a beautiful and hard working woman making dinner for us. I ran to her and hugged her like she would slip away from me at any second. “Sweetie are you okay?” my mom asked. With tears in my eyes I smiled, looked up, and said “I love you”. She then grabbed my shoulders and pushed me away so that she could exam my face and body because of how I was acting she was worried something had happened. “Are you sure you are okay? Did anyone hurt you?” My mom was very caring and sometimes a bit over protecting but at this moment in time I didn’t mind at all. “I am fine. I promise. I just missed you!” We then sat down for dinner and enjoyed a laugh with each other. Regardless what happens going forward I was as happy as I had ever been that evening with my mother and didn’t want it to end; However after a couple hours realization kicked in and I knew I had to prepare myself and my mother for the times to come. I have no idea how I am going to tell my mother that not only was I reborn but the entire world was going to end in a year. I could only think of a way to keep my mom home on the day the world ends so that she doesn’t parish like she did so many years ago.

The next day I skipped school and began cultivating the body which would not require any Qi to do so. The process is long and painful but I knew if I didn’t start now that it would be too late. The body cultivation that I began to practice was called the Unyielding Divine Body. The cultivation technique requires me to undergo a massive amount of pain during which I must stay conscious so that I can make sure to circulate my blood flow in the correct direction. Following the guide in my memory I was able to discharge the impurities out of my body so that I could take the first step into cultivation. This process was long and I had nearly passed out on several occasions but it was a successful. Once this part of the Unyielding Divine body art was completed I felt as if my body itself had been reborn pure. After completing the starting point of this art I can now focus on my physical fitness. Yes I do me physical fitness just like anyone else I was lifting weights, going to the gym, running, and swimming even. I spent the next few months completely dedicated to working on my body and spending time with my family. I did however get into trouble after my mom found out that not only was I not going to school but I had written a letter to the school saying that I was formally dropping out. I had made some excuse that I wanted to concentrate on my body and go into some sports. My mother wasn’t happy about it at all but as time went by she saw how hard I was working and knew it wasn’t just for nothing.

Time went by and I kept cultivating my body until the last month was upon us and I had to start to plan for the day the world was to end. I had begged my mom to quit her job that she had been at for years to prevent her from being out of state during the attacks but I failed to convince her to leave her job. I racked my mind for ideas on what to do to keep her here. I could only think of one way to prevent her death and it would mean that I would have to force my mother to stay even if it meant tying her to a chair. So as bad as it sounds that was the best plan I could come up with and so that is what I went with. As the days went by I mentally prepared myself and sold my personal belongings for simple weapons like swords, daggers, and even baseball bats. I had them stored in my closet waiting for the day. The day was approaching and I believed to be as ready as I could be. My body was ready to absorb the Qi and I had basic weapons that could be used in the short term for protection. I was even able to stash away some military rations so that we wouldn’t have to worry so much about getting a meal or anything right after the bombs dropped. With only a couple days left I knew that I had done all I could to be ready and only thing left to do was to wait.
