During the night while mom tried to rest I was ever watchful and on guard the entire night. As the first rays of light came through the canopy of trees I woke mom up. “Mom it’s time to move” I said. She shot up nearly yelling “What’s going on? Where are we?” It took only a moment before she remembered. “Mom everything is alright. I am here.” Mom was worried and scared I could tell she didn’t really sleep last night. “Come on, we got to get moving before it gets too light out.” We slowly began to move north, which from my memories, would lead us to a mountain range where we could find a nice and fortified spot to make camp.
As we traversed through the deep jungle we came across three other men around a fire. They seemed to have been cooking something over the fire. One of the men raised his head up and with a deadly smile said, “You hungry lady? Wanna come sit next to me and eat some fresh meat?” Before I could even say a word the other two men jumped up with knives in their hands and started towards us. Dropping my bags I rushed towards the two men without even a second thought. They slashed and stabbed towards me, but because of my cultivation and training I easily dodge their attempts. I was ruthless and with a mere three moves I had destroyed one man’s face and then took his weapon and stabbed the other in the heart, leaving no chance for him to fight back. With just a look the other man ran off screaming. I did not want to chase after him as I knew things could have ended badly if I found myself surrounded by others.
After the conflict I had to quickly grab a hold of mom and start to help her walk. She was distraught to say the least as it was her first time to see someone get killed in front of her. We did not have the time to sit around and think about what had just happened. I was not sure if that man would go find others to come back and attack us. As time went by mom gradually moved forward without my help. She didn’t bother speaking much and I could tell it would take her some time to get over what she had just seen. As we continued to move forward my head was on a swivel and I was searching for anyone who would do harm to us. We had walked for nearly half a day before we reached the end of the forest. As we peaked out towards the 3 mountain tops ahead I could tell that just getting out of the jungle had helped mom. We had been in that jungle of death for nearly 2 days and she had seen many things that would haunt her dreams for days to come.
Once out of the forest we continued towards the bottom of the mountain range where we came across a small river running in-between the mountains. We took a moment to fill up the 3 water skins I had in my pack and quickly washed our faces off. I did not want us to stay in the open too long so I urged mom to keep moving. We walked in near silence until we had reached a small cave that looked like a bear den. I instructed mom to wait in some bushes nearby as I went to look in the cave and make sure it was safe. When I got to the mouth of the cave I stopped and listened. While sitting there listening I heard a faint sound coming from inside. I grabbed the knife from my pack and dropped my bag there on the ground. I slowly walked forward into the cave listening after each step. The sound got louder as I approached and I could make out the sound as if something was eating loudly. When I got close enough to the sound I could finally see what was making that noise. It was a demon beast with the body of a car sized lizard and it had purple spots all over. I then recognized this demon beast as a first stage purple spotted LiSauros.
When Qi was released into the world not only did humans change and were able to cultivate but so were the animals. The animals that we used to know are now known as demon beasts and are terribly strong. A stage 1 demon beast is able to kill any normal person without any real difficulties. As they continue to eat flesh of other beasts and absorb the Qi these demon beasts will grow in stages and become a nightmare for all. At the same time however these demon beast provide cultivators with not only materials for refining armor or weapons but their beast core’s can be used in alchemy.
Knowing that we needed a safe place to stay and knowing that this beast could provide us with food and even cultivation materials I knew I could only do one thing, Kill it. I slowly approached the beast and I was able to get within 10 meters of it before it could smell me. The beast immediately dropped its’ meal and lunged forward trying to bite me in half. I was quick to dodge jumping to my right as his mouth hit the cave wall. I was lucky that we were in the cave as the demon beast could not move its mighty thorn tail to attack me. It could only use its jaws as the cave was small and it could not use its full power because of this. I continued to dodge left and right as it tried to bite me. I knew that my only shot at killing this thing was to stab it right in the head with my knife. I steadied my mind and focused on the beasts movements. I then took the chance and barley dodged one of its attacks which allowed me to be right next to his head. I then jumped up and stabbed the beast directing above its two eyes with all my might. Even though my aim was true the beast would not stop and it began to thrash about trying to knock me off. I held on to its scales and continued stab it in the same spot over and over again until the beast stopped moving.

I fell down from the beasts’ head in a heap of sweat with a smile on my face. Not only did I manage to kill my first demon beast in this life I was able to do so by myself at the low level foundation stage which is unheard of. Normally to take down a stage 1 demon beast you would need a group of at least 3 foundation building cultivators but because of the close space and knowing where its weakness was I was able to take it down rather easily. After a short rest I needed to go and check on mom to make sure she was ok and to bring her into the cave. When I got outside I waved towards the bushes and she appeared. She ran all the way to me and seeing me with blood all over myself she was crying and worried that I had gotten hurt somehow. As my mom does, she held me at an arms distance inspecting every inch to make sure I was fine. “Mom I am fine. It is not my blood.” She then looked down speechless and allowed me to take her into the cave. After she got into the cave she saw the huge car sized lizard lying dead. She looked at me again saying softly “I know the world has changed but this was dangerous and you need to be careful.” Knowing mom still had no real idea what kind of power cultivators had I could only nod.
For the rest of the night I asked mom to clean up the back of the cave for us to make a nice little camp there. While she was doing that I was trying to clean up the mess I left behind while killing the beast. I did not have any special equipment yet so I couldn’t really do much as far as making anything out of the demon beast parts but I was able to locate and store away the core of the beast. As far as the rest of the beast I took a bit of the meat for us to eat and then slowly I took piece by piece and moved it towards the forest. I did not want to attract any more demon beasts with the carcass lying around and seeing how we couldn’t use all of it I left it there near the entrance to the forest. After moving everything out and cleaning up the blood you could still smell the faint smell of blood. So I took some time to head back towards the river and wash the blood off. While I was there I found some herbs that would help mask the smell of the blood in the cave. If we burn them the smell would over power the blood smell in the cave. Once I got back to the cave I threw those herbs into the fire to allow the cave to fill with the nice fragrant smell of those herbs. Once that was done we set up a roasting stick for the piece of meat that I cut off the demon beast so we could enjoy a full dinner. Mom was not happy about eating it but after I explained that the meat itself will help provide some extra Qi into our bodies and thus help us to become stronger she caved and started to have some. Of course after the first bite her light lit up like a kid in a candy shop. “Wow this is so much better than steak!” all I could do was laugh as I watched her devour her piece. After the meal was finished I looked over at mom and I could see a faint Qi flowing from her. I knew now that the time was right and I could start to guide her in cultivation.
“Mom listen to me very carefully. Cultivation isn’t just a word but a way of life. If you choose to walk this path you may become strong but you may also be challenged by other cultivators to fight. Cultivating is a way of life and you need to be ready to fully embrace it. Now I ask you again, do you wish to become a cultivator?” Mom stood up and looked at me in my eye and said “I may not want to fight everyone and I may not ever become as strong as you but I need to have enough strength to protect myself and to protect the innocent, like those people we saw in the forest.” With that being said I knew her resolve was there and she was ready for the first step to becoming a cultivator. “Mom what I am going to teach you is a core cultivating technique that will allow you to do just that. This technique is called the Endless Flowers and with it you should be able to establish a good foundation. I had her sit in front of me with her legs crossed as I helped move the Qi into her body in the correct direction for this technique. We continued like this for the rest of the night. Once the sunlight shown through the cave entrance I pulled away and got up. Mom continued to stay there moving the Qi through her body the way I taught her, as I went to look out of the cave to see how things were looking outside. I could see nothing different but when I looked to the right I could see the dead carcass was gone leaving only the blood stains in the grass. Seeing how nothing was out of the ordinary I went back to mom and when I was about to speak she had opened her eyes. “Wow this cultivation stuff really does work wonders for my old bones.” Looking at mom with a smirk I said, “You were never old mom. You were just a normal person and now you are a cultivator.”
Even though mom was unable to make a break through to the foundation building stage she has felt the Qi and can now practice on her own. It may take her a month or two just to break through that first barrier. The only reason why I was able to make a direct breakthrough was only do to my past knowledge and body cultivation that I spent nearly a year on. Now that mom was at this point and there were no immediate dangers I could finally get some sleep. Even though a cultivator can go days without sleep by just meditating, it is still one of those things that are needed to fully rest and rejuvenate the body. “Mom I am going to take a short nap. I need you to meditate and listen carefully to your surroundings. We are safe here for the time being but if anyone comes into the cave I will need you to immediately wake me up.”
