Well, this was it. The end of the world. It would all be ended by one big fireball in the sky. Only 20,000 people would even be conscious tomorrow, and none would be alive.
Let me explain. The Meteor that was on a direct course with Earth was at least twice the size of the one that wiped out the dinosaurs. It would land in the Pacific ocean and send tidal waves across the globe. It would disrupt the very Axis of the earth. Not even nuclear weapons would be enough to shake it of it's course. Anything more, and it would greate a Forever winter since the clouds of debris would block the sun's rays. It was an impossible situation.
One man, Salvador Perez, the leader of Exocraft Co, was working on a solution. His company was the leader in fully immersive Virtual Reality. He proposed that we simply "uploaded" our consciousness into the servers. The servers would be launched on a rocket with an AI that would protect them.
Theoretically, it was possible.
Stolen story; please report.
The only complication was the immersion pods. There were only 20,000 available.
Salvador would be the man to choose our fates. He was conducting a worldwide background search to find the people worthy of his pods. I happened to be one of those people.
I could actually see the massive flaming hunk of metal and rock, as the Pod came by drone. The Pod was about the size of a cylindrical coffin. It was actually pretty ironic since I was going to die in there. It was a matte black, with tubes roping around the outside.
The meteor was 45 minutes away fromm impact. I sat down on my chair, and Bruno jumped up beside me. The huge Mastiff barely fit on the tiny chair. I handed him a treat.
I gave him a nice long belly rub, and took a deep breath. It was time.
The debris fron the asteroid were already making contact. I gave Bruno one last kiss, buried my face in his fur, and strapped myself in the pod.
The Immersion pod was actually quite comfortable. I laid down and shut the lid. I felt a small pain at the pack of my neck, and then liquid began rising around me.
The top of the pod grew hazy as my eyes tried to close. I cleared my mind, and hoped it would work.
