Chapter 9 - Telumkinesis: The ability to manipulate weaponry
Janes' POV
I sat up high above the teal water, Edur stayed up all night with me, we didn’t talk much, just shouted directions. “How are you doing?” I asked, coming down from the sails. He shrugged.
“I’m used to not sleeping much, you said you saw land a few minutes ago.” I nodded. “Are you okay? You look awful, Red.” He said I shook my head. My whole body ached after last night, my powers were drained and my injuries were becoming more painful as my energy where'd off.
“Not really, I was so focused on myself I didn’t see that Diomedes was after Con.” Edur sighed.
“Diomedes has always hated him, and this was the first time that he and Con were going to be alone together without Nora,” Edur said. I nodded, and lowered the anchor at a dock, in the early morning no one seemed nearby.
“Go wake them now.” Edur walked away, as I tied the ship down, the misty air stung my face, and cuts, I tied my hair back and tucked it into my hood, I was recognizable because of it. Everyone came up, Edur and Neve supported Con, I pulled Valery over. “If anyone recognizes us, I don’t know if I can-” She put her hand up.
“I understand, I’ll take care of anyone that tries anything.” I grabbed her shoulder.
“Thank you.” She and I walked onto the shore, and saw a tavern with four horses, they’ll have to do.
“Only four,” Valery said, I nodded. “I can take Con.” She said I agree.
“Neve and Tristan can share a horse, there the two lightest.” I watched the horses while Valery got everyone. A big white horse had a saddle while the others didn’t.
“Jane,” Valery said, I turned to help Neve and Tristan onto the second biggest.
‘Which one of you is better at this?” I asked, Neve, sat in front.
“Me.” She said, I handed her rope, then tied Tristan to her. I walked over to Valery.
“Take the one with the saddle,” I said, and she got up. I turned to Con, he looked pale. “Okay Conrad,” I held his arm. “You’re going to ride with Valery.” He nodded slowly, Valery grabbed his arms, as Edur and I lifted him into her lap. “Sure you can handle him?” I asked as she nodded, holding him to her chest. “Okay you guys go ahead we’ll be right behind you.” They slowly took off. Edur looked at me. “What?” He looked to the ground.
“I don’t know how to ride a horse.” I chuckled.
“Just do what I do, trust me?” He nodded, I got onto my horse and he followed suit, I kicked the horse gently and she started moving, Edur’s horse seemed to follow mine.
Cons' POV
My chest felt so heavy with every bump, I saw Jane leading us and focused on her, Valery kept asking how I was doing. I tried to remain still as I always answered: “Fine.” I saw Edur struggling to keep his horse straight and Tristan holding on to Neve for dear life. It went on like this all day when evening was coming and the sky turned orange, Jane stopped to talk to us. She didn’t look so good, Neve noticed too.

“Jane, are you okay?” Neve asked, Jane waved her off.
“We have to stop and get other horses if we are going to continue,” Jane said. “I’ve been avoiding towns, but we don’t have a choice.” Valery tightened her grip on me.
“Jane, that's extremely risky,” Valery said. Neve nodded.
“I’m with Jane. We need to get to Dark Well as fast as possible.” Tristan said. Valery sighed.
“Okay.” Jane led us into a small town, it seemed everyone came out of their houses to get a look at us strangers.
“Who are you?” A man asked, Valery, covered my hair with her shirt.
“We’re traders heading north, we just need new horses,” Jane said. Trading horses was an extremely common practice.
“What are you trading?” I closed my eyes in panic.
“Nothing yet, my party and I are heading to the mines for our next hull of coal,” Jane said seamlessly. The man nodded and waved us to follow, we got off the horses, and Edur supported me.
“So have you heard about the King's Son?” He asked, Jane calmly nodded.
“The last town we passed through mentioned it,” Jane said, he nodded.
“It’s funny because you look exactly like the description.” He said, pointing to Tristan, Jane stood still, she reached for her sword and the man backhanded her in the face. Valery leaped at him before all of us were being held by people, I was dropped to the ground.
“This one can barely stand.” The person holding me said.
“Take them to the cells and message Diomedes who we should kill, and who we should keep.” Everyone screamed, I looked at Jane lying lifeless on the ground. “And throw this one and that one in a separate cell, to make things more interesting.” He said, kicking Jane towards me.
We were carried down to the cells, they smelled of mold and mud. They threw Jane in a cell, she skidded across the floor before hitting the wall, they dropped me next to her and threw everyone else in a single cell across from us, there were only two cells. “Con?!” Tristan yelled, I felt blood bubbling in the back of my throat. I crawled over to Jane and took her pulse, she was still alive.
“Is Jane okay?!” Neve asked. I nodded slowly and lifted Jane into my arms, the side of her face was bleeding again.
“They’ll die, you have to help them!” Valery screamed at the single guard, he only shrugged looking through our weapons. I leaned my head against the wall, this was how I was going to die. Jane shifted in my arms.
“Conrad.” She said, looking into my eyes, a tear burned down my face. “I was an idiot for stopping at this town,” I smiled. She held my hand. “I don’t know how to fix this.” I shook my head.
“It’s going to be okay,” I whispered.
“Help them!” I heard Edur scream.
“They’ll die in each other’s arms, it's romantic.” The guard said, picking up Jane’s sword, he looked confused flipping it over. Jane gripped my sleeve. She looked hopefully at the guard, and her gaze didn’t leave him, he unscrewed the handle, and the smell of oil filled the small room. “What the hell is this?” He asked, He looked closely at it moving the handle up and down, the sword caught fire, he dropped the sword and the holder as his hands caught fire as well, but more importantly, he dropped the keys. He screamed and ran out. Jane smiled.
“Dumbass.” She said I shook my head. Valery picked up the keys and unlocked the door, the other three came running over to us, Edur grabbed Jane. Valery readied her sword.
“We have to go now,” Neve said. Edur and Tristan handled me and Jane.
Janes' POV
My face pounded against my skull, my spine felt dented, I couldn’t feel my legs but I stood and walked just fine, Valery led us out the back, as Edur and Neve trailed her, Tristan and I handled Con. I heard swords clashing, Tristan gets on a horse and I lift Con onto a horse with me and hit two others to run into the fight, Valery and Neve get a hold of them, and Neve grabs Edur, I use the wind to sweep a few off their feet. Valery headed a sharp east, and we followed, we headed into a rocky area and hid. And sent the horses running, we heard men but they followed the horses leaving us, I grabbed my sword and gave it to Valery. Everyone kept watching from every side, while Con and I were left in the center. I put my hand on his chest and heated his muscles, but he was already tingling warm. “Con I’ll get you to Dark Well if it’s the last thing I do,” I promised. In the darkness, his eyes lit up.
“Just sleep, Jane.” He said, I grabbed my jacket and made a pillow for our heads, I laid shoulder to shoulder with him and closed my tired eyes.
