Chapter 14 - Chronokinesis: The ability to manipulate time

Janes' POV

I sat at the large table and watched the prince hover around the back of our chairs, Raena brought in a bunch of letters, she flipped through them before stopping and staring at one, she looked at me before handing it to a guard everyone watched as the letter was placed in front of me, with a flowing script; Jane Stevens. I looked at the seal, it was Neves, I quickly opened the letter, everyone's eyes were on me.

Jane, Diomedes’s ships have been spotted heading for Blacklock, I fear he’s coming here now. - Neve Stevens

I stood up quickly, the world was blurry. I picked up the paper and crumpled it in my hands, I threw it, and the guards in the room surrounded me. “Jane?” I heard Con’s voice, as my father picked up the letter, I grabbed my sword and jacket and ran out of the room.

“Jane?!” Edur yelled as he and Con ran after me. This was all my fault and my need to fix these mistakes that weren’t mine. The prince appears first.

“What has happened?”

“Diomedes is headed towards Darkwell, we need to leave now!” I barely cared who I left behind. I was getting back to Darkwell now.

Cons' POV

Jane looked so angry, so frantic, so scared, I’d never seen her like this, Jon ran after us. “We need to get back now.” He said he handed me the letter; Diomedes was headed to Blacklock. Jon raced to the docks, I fear if we didn’t follow we would be left behind.

“Diomedes is going for Blacklock,” I told Edur, the queen came over to the two of us.

“Are you boys going to be okay?” She asked, I almost frowned, why would she care?

“I’m sorry your majesty, we need to go now.” Edur and I hopped onto the ship, I couldn’t find Jon or Jane anywhere. The air suddenly became very thin and the sky seemed to scream with a gust of wind. Edur grabbed my arm.

“It’s going to be okay,” Edur said, to both of us, and he nodded at me. “I can help.” He closed his eyes and the wind picked up even more than it already had been. With his powers, we might shave a few hours off, but the wind seemed to be even stronger than normal even without Edur.

Janes' POV

I stood at the very front of the ship, dug my feet into the ground, and brought the wind to push us. My powers must have been getting stronger because the amount of air that after I called was more than usual. I couldn’t think straight, my mind wasn’t working correctly.

We arrived just as the evening began to set in. Several ships were already on our shore and we were shot at by them, we left the ship as bait and rowed to shore. The pain of the water in the air barely affected me anymore and I could see the flames of battle. We all jumped onto the shore and I ran into the back, my father ran to help the effort, while I was left to do what I do best being a blunt instrument. “Jane?!” I looked to my side to see Neve running at me. She was covered in dirt and her head was bleeding. “I tried to stop them, they wouldn’t listen you have to help them-”

“Neve, who are you talking about?” She took a breath.

“Tristan and Valery, they went after Diomedes alone, they saw him on the biggest ship-”

“When did they leave?”

“Ten minutes ago.” I nodded.

“I can help them, there’s still time.” Neve nodded. Con and Edur ran up to us. I glanced at them before running into the heavy of the battle.

“Jane?!” I heard Con scream, the ground burned around me, and I felt drained from using my wind, but it didn’t matter how tired I was, or how much pain I was in, I could fight them. The largest ship floated off a dock that was destroyed, and I couldn’t swim, I grabbed an oar and launched it at the hull, several men saw me, they signaled to tell the others on the ship what I was going I grabbed a rope, and jumped over the water to the other ship coming in closer, I burned into the hull and fell inside, the ship rocked back and forth. I grabbed the railing to the stairs and climbed to the top, I looked across to the other ship, I could see Valery and Tristan both tied down, while others stood over them, I didn’t see Diomedes anywhere, Several men came at me, I lit my sword on fire and sprayed their blood across the deck, but when more came I climbed into the sails and cut a piece of the fabric off, I inhaled and used the wind, as I jumped, the wind caught and I was carried to the other ship, I dropped down onto the head of one guard. The others turned on me. There were only two of them, I stabbed the first one in the stomach before decapitating the other.

“Ah, I was wondering when you'd show up, where have you been?” My teeth dragged together I kicked the head of his men at him; Diomedes. He had Tristan by the throat, and Valery laid off to the side, she appeared unconscious. I tilted my head up and wiped the blood from my lips. I ran at him, and he slapped me back, my gums bleed, as I rolled back a few feet, I spit my blood onto the ground. He had Tristan wrapped in one of his arms, Tristan struggles but is no longer being strangled. Valery lifts her head up and stands slowly behind Diomedes, as he walks over to me. “You are the reason I’m here, you are too dangerous to be left alive.” I smiled.

“Thanks, I honestly wasn’t that worried about you, figured your weak ass-” He kicked me, I grabbed his leg, he dropped Tristan as he fell onto his ass. “Really one punch and you think I’m out?” Diomedes growled at me. He drew his sword, as Tristan tried to jump on him.

“You useless pest!” Diomedes screamed at Tristan, he threw Tristan back and had the sword lined up at his stomach.

“No!” Valery yelled, she fell into the blade instead, her mouth opened but no words came out, blood followed. I sucked in a breath, as she was dropped to the ground.

“Valery?” Tristan asked, he stared at her wide-eyed, before looking at Diomedes, Diomedes hit him over the head with the same blade, I ran at him, he stabbed me in the abdomen, and threw me against a post, he dragged Valery and Tristan’s body to the side and dumped them over.

“No!” I screamed, Diomedes turned back to me, I could feel my blood pooling in my hands, and tears pooling in my eyes.

“I know what you are, the way you burned that building, you didn’t even leave bones, just ash.” I glared at him, I felt blood coming up my throat. “When I found out what you are, I couldn’t leave you standing, you understand, demons can’t be allowed to walk among us, you have them all fooled don’t you?” I shook my head, this wasn’t happening.

Cons' POV

We watch Jane run off into the smoke. “Neve where is she going?!” I asked, Neve, looked shocked.

“Tristan and Valery, they're out there.” I looked over the bodies, Tristan couldn’t do this. Edur and I ran in as well, I didn’t see Jane anywhere, the air was so thick. Edur grabbed my shoulder, I flowed his eye line to Jane jumping onto the biggest ship, she floated through the air. Edur blinked and shook his head. At this point, nothing she could do would surprise me. We slowly made our way over to the ship, when I heard Jane scream no. Seconds later I could see two bodies fall into the water, Edur put his hand on my chest and jumped into the freezing water. Neve runs up to me.

“Diomedes, they are retreating, and Jane, Tristan, and Valery are still on those ships!” I panicked as Edur breached the surface, He was holding two people in his arms, Neve ran into the water to help drag them to shore.

Janes' POV

I felt my insides tearing apart, I looked at Valery’s blood smeared everywhere. Diomedes was about to drop his sword on my head when I saw a perfectly intact lifeboat amongst the chaos. I kicked him in the nuts, he doubled over and I dived for the lifeboat. “You never fought fair!” He yelled.

“Enjoy your ride!” I yelled, I pushed it against him and he flew into it, I kicked in the collapsing side on the ship's railing and pushed the boat over the edge.

“No!” He screamed, I looked over the edge to see the large drop into the shallow water, the boat splintered into pieces, I looked to the shore to see our guards rounding up prisoners, they would find him, I set my sword down and leaned against the rail, I felt defeated, I looked onto the beach as the dust started to clear. Two bodies laid on the shore, surrounded by three blondes, Valery and Tristan, those three had got them out of the water. I held my bleeding side and walked up to the wheel of the ship, I could help, I could save them.

Cons' POV

Tristan was unconscious, and he wasn’t breathing Edur and I hit his chest a few times, and he jerked up and coughed up all the water in his lungs, before passing out, I took his pulse, and he was breathing, we all focused on Valery, she was so pale and she continued to bleed onto the dark rocky sand. She was losing too much blood too fast. I looked up to see the giant ship coming back to shore. “Look out!” Neve yelled it hit the shore, and a rope flew over the side, we were ready to kill whoever came down. Someone slid down then dropped the last couple of feet. Edur ran over and wrapped his arms around them, dragging them over.

“Jane?!” I yelled, taking her from Edur, she dropped to her knees next to Valery and put her hand on her forehead then moved to her side, Valery’s blood leaked all over Jane’s hands, though she was already covered in blood. Diomedes was officially in retreat now that the lead ship was down.

“Get them into town,” Jane said, Valery’s side had stopped bleeding, and Neve and Edur dragged them both before others came to help. Jane fell into the sand, I grabbed her arm.

“Jane?!” I yelled again, I lifted her into my lap, so she wouldn’t get sand in all her cuts.

“You have to get out of here, they’ll send- they’ll send-” She spoke before a thousand tiny lights lit up the sky; Flaming arrows, Jane held up her sword and blocked the stray coming towards us, but the pure shock wave knocked out Jane, I leaned over Jane and one cut the side of my face, pinning me to the ground, I squeezed my eyes shut.
