The Runic Beasts scattered throughout the land, some secluded themselves in the deepest recesses that they can find to be left undisturbed. Others openly searched for disciples to teach their magic ways.

A series of school system started to develop as knowledge started to spread.

At the base of the pyramid was the lower schools, the students were self-taught, or given minor knowledge on the magic they are studying. It is also a foundation-establishing site which scours the people of those who can learn magic and those who cannot. Those who can create a foundation in magic then can graduate to pursue a higher education.

Above them were the minor schools, Unlike those who are self-taught they are guided by a credible magician who knows their subject, students can start to delve deeper into their chosen subject,  This is the stage where common knowledge about magic is taught,  Once the student solidifies their foundations, they are ready to graduate to pursue a higher education. 

The place to learn more and possibly experiment with magic is in the Apprentice schools. These schools specialize in  in the development of the magician, they are apprenticed to a senior magician and help them conduct experiments be it gathering of the materials, being a test subject to the magic, or in the case of planar magic and similar,  exploration of the field itself. Most magicians will find themselves apprenticed to a greater magician and this stage is also the most deadly. There are instances when magicians lose parts of their body, soul, or even their entire foundation of magic.  But without risk there is no great reward. and those who brave the dangers of apprenticeship can leave their master anytime enroll in an intermediate institute or academy.

In the intermediate classes people aim to master their chosen subject. Some even branch themselves and learn multiple subjects as a secondary or tertiary subject. There are often debates between magicians to correct and disprove beliefs. Magicians come to learn to advance themselves and if they are confident, apply to become a senior magician.

Senior magician originate from the Grand Magic schools. Grand Magic schools  are where the masters of magic gather to experiment and learn. Senior magicians learn to master all the subjects they're learning. This is also the foundations of creating new magic.  Since Senior magicians have to test their magical research they often find apprentices to test it on. 

Above the Senior Magicians and at the pinnacle of the system are the Ethereal Sky Sages.  These seemingly perfect magicians are ,in fact, inheritors of the Runic Beasts that have passed away. A magician must meet harsh expectations and undergo thousands of tribulations before they are accepted by a Runic Beast. Once the Runic Beast accepts the magician as their inheritor their body dissolves and integrates themselves into the Magician, forming a complete symbiotic bond that enhances the physical and mental capabilities of the magician depending on the base of the Runic Beast.  

I originally created a total of 100 Runic Beasts, since 26 of them secluded themselves, 39 became stubborn and proud, accepting no disciples but are active in society. And the remaining 35 were accepting disciples and even creating schools to teach. 

Sadly with great gifts come great disasters. Jealously among the disciples for each school sparked a feud to prove which beast was better. Influenced by their students, the Runic Beasts started to fight each other for supremacy. 

Of the 35 who took disciples, all but 7 of them were slain, their teachings torn apart and scattered, some lost forever. Of the 39 who are involved in society, many were attacked for fear of the Beast's power being greater than their master. Many were ambushed and slain, only 13 remain alive.  Many scoured the globe for the 26 secluded Runic Beasts but alas no one could ever find them. 

Now that major powers started to appear kingdoms and empires were starting to form, the continent was going to be swept by chaos.
