Prologue - I'm a What?

Unknown

Alert: Your world has reached maximum experience, proceeding to world level two. Selecting Gods. Gods selected. Estimated world upgrade completion time: two weeks.

A glowing vaguely humanoid silhouette stared at the screen in front of him.

???: "Well that certainly took long enough. I wonder who will be chosen?"

Jack

I walk out of the exam room and stretch my arms. Finally free from school! For the summer. Gotta treasure the small victories eh? Either way, I have somewhere important to be.

Walking back to my house takes about 20 minutes, rather than the usual thirty. I couldn't help but move faster than I do normally, due to my excitement. Once I get home, I do not hesitate to reach for the door handle, even though my parents would have locked the door before they left this morning while I was in my exam. I know I won't be needing my key.

After I open the door, I see a beautiful girl walk around the corner from my living room, smiling at me.

Emily: "Hello Jack! Miss me?"

Jack: "Hi Emily. And I'm not going to answer that."

She rolls her eyes, having had this conversation many times before.

Emily: "Oh be quiet. I know you actually do miss me, even if you don't think so. Now come here."

We hug each other and give a kiss on the cheek. Even though we are seventeen and 'dating', living in different cities really puts a damper on the progress in our relationship. Though it's only one more year until we can go to university, so hopefully we can live closer together then.

Jack: "Okay, I might have missed you. Just a bit. So, how was your trip down here?"

Emily: "The train ride was the same as always. Now, today was your last exam?"

Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation.

Jack: "Yep, no more studying for me. Though you wouldn't know anything about that."

Emily: "Shut up! I had four exams last semester, so I deserved a break this time. How did the exam go, by the way?"

Jack: "Not bad, I think I improved my mark. Anyway, what-"

Before I can continue, a light flashes in front of me, and I see a woman who can almost compete with Emily in terms of looks. Almost. I look at Emily, and she is also staring, so I don't think that this is a hallucination. Before I can say anything, the woman speaks.

Woman: "Hello Emily and Jack, congratulations on being selected. Now, if you would come with me."

I was about to ask how she teleported here, but Emily spoke first.

Emily: "Come with you where, and selected for what?"

Not really asking the interesting questions Emily. Probably the good questions, but not the ones with fun answers.

Jack: "Also, how did you teleport here?"

Woman: "I do not wish to take the time to explain, I can talk further later. For now, silence."

When she said silence, I felt a chill, and the complaint I was about to make just stopped before I could make a sound. Emily's opening and closing mouth and confused look consolidate my idea that this person is not a human. As far as I know, there is no way to do that as a human, even if technology progressed fifty years.

Woman: "Good. Now, prepare to transfer."

As the "er" in transfer died, I became dizzy and my vision was blurry, as if I had bad eyes. Luckily, this only lasted what felt like a few seconds. Once the world was in focus and it stopped spinning, my jaw dropped at what I saw.

Emily and I, as well as four other people I don't recognize, were standing in a castle throne room. Now, a regular castle might be impressive, but it won't shock me into a stupor. However, this castle was probably at least five hundred times the size of any man made castle. Now, I didn't do so well in physics, but I don't think that something this big can actually hold itself up under it's own weight.

Emily and the rest continue to look up as I look around, because while the possibility that we have been shrunk is simultaneously entertaining and terrifying, that woman should be around here.

Yep, there she is. Standing next to the giant throne, which is made what looks like liquid rainbows, is the same woman that brought us here. Though, plus one for the theory that we have been shrunk, she is an appropriate size for the building. I was about to ask what is going on, at least until I notice the equally giant man? sitting on the throne next to her. I don't actually know if it is a man, woman, or some kind of alien, because it's figure is obscured by a white light that, while not bright, is somehow enough to make me turn my eyes away. It's like looking at the sun, you can see it for a split second, and then you have to either look away or go blind. I only get this far before the man, yes, by his voice I can tell it is either a man or very masculine woman, starts to speak to us. In a much less imposing voice than I imagined.

Man: "Hi. You have all been chosen to be gods. Good luck."

And then promptly finishes his little speech thing and vanishes, in much the same way that the woman teleported into my house.

Woman: "What a useless guy, I knew I shouldn't have left the explanations to him. Anyway, first off, hello. I am sure you're all very confused and curious about the situation, so before you kill yourself with questions, let us begin the explanation."
