Chapter 2

What, are we special or something? Well, more special than the other extremely special people? Well, either way, I am extremely satisfied with this situation. Both me and Emily, who also looks quite happy by the way, get to be gods, and go through stuff like I always read. I know that it will not be a very good thing, especially not for most people in the world, but I still can't bring myself to wish this didn't happen.

Jack: "So does this mean that we are different from the others, the elemental gods I guess?"

Woman: "Yes. While the six of you are pretty much equal at the moment, you two are the most integral to the future progress in this world. You don't need to know much more right now, except for a few things."

She pauses for a moment, perhaps to gather her thoughts, and then continues.

Woman: "I don't like using mind reading magic, so I don't know if you'll be happy or sad about this, but once I return you to your planet, you will have to undergo a change, or evolution, into beings that represent your Demonic or Holy affinity. This is the major difference between you and the others currently. They will become other than human once the world becomes level three, but you will have long discarded you lower race shells. The reason for this is because humans can only effectively use the power of the six "normal" affinities, and if you are to be the embodients of holy and demonic powers, you have to be in the most suitable form for them."

Well, I for one am more than happy to not be human anymore. Not that I have anything against humankind, I just find it exciting to be something else, and to change. Emily and I have actually talked about this a couple times, what animal we would like to be if we could change what we were. Of course, I wouldn't actually want to be a dog, but I wouldn't mind being one for a day. Anyway, people are talking, focus!

Emily: "Will the evolution make us into monsters or something completely unrecognizable? Or will we still look human?"

Woman: "No need to worry, gods always have the ability to transform into their original race. Titans are the ones that have beast like or monstrous appearances. Your looks will not be very different from how you are now, as you both look good enough that the process of becoming gods can't do too much. Though Jack, it wouldn't have hurt you to take slightly better care of yourself, though I suppose you wouldn't be turning into the race you will get if you weren't the way you are."

Jack: "What do you mean? What race am I evolving to? It better not be some gross slimy thing or something."

Woman: "You can find out as soon as you get to your house. I do want to save some surprises for you. Though as compensation, both of you can ask one more question before I send you back."

Emily asks her question first. It was the question I was planning on asking, though I have another one that is probably more important anyway.

Emily: "What are you and that man really. You didn't answer the others, but can you at least give us a hint?"

Woman: "I have no issue with telling you two, it's just that the others will not be working as closely with me in the future."

This person just keeps making more questions for me. Whatever, my second question is still more important.

Woman: "I am not a god, because they have power that has a limit within their universe. I and my... boyfriend, have restricted omnipotence within this world, though beyond our world we are more limited. The man you met could be called the creator of the universe, and I could be called the regulator. He makes all matter and energy in the universe, and I am the one that keeps the laws of reality in place. For example, he might create a person, though he never has, and I could make sure that all the atoms function properly, and that the system works for said person."

Well. All those people who pray for whatever their religion is are going to be depressed. Apparently the truth about the world is that the supreme beings are really just two people with issues progressing their relationship. Though I'm not really one to talk. Anyway, onto my question.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Jack: "Is there any way to help our immediate family, or those we are close to? I don't think I want my parents and sister to be just as vulnerable as any other person once the system is available."

Emily widens her eyes, I guess she was so preoccupied that she didn't think of that. I didn't either, until I had to consider a different question.

Woman: "Well, as gods, you should obviously have some way to strengthen your followers. You can make people who are loyal to you stronger, though it does have a cost. I don't recommend using that ability frequently."

So there is a way to help, well that will certainly give me some peace of mind.

Woman: "That was your two questions, it is time for you to go back. Until we meet again."

We do the teleporting thing, which I am already getting sort of used to, and reappear in my living room. The time on the clock has not changed from when we left. I look at Emily with a smile on my face while she says:

Emily: "Jack. This is awesome! Holy shit, have you been hoping for something like this to happen for a long time, or is it just me?"

She is beaming, and looks like she is just barely stopping herself from jumping up and down. As I watch her fidgeting, I think to myself.

Jack: "What do I do to see my status... oh."

I found out two things: one is that you can just think about it to see your status screen, and two is that we need to do something before being able to see our status screens.

Alert: You must complete your evolution before accessing your status screen.

Jack: "Emily. Calm down and think "status". What should we do now?"

Emily stops celebrating, and after a few seconds, her eyes begin to move sideways, as if she is reading something. Then she waits for a few seconds, and then shrugs.

Emily: "Well, thinking "Evolution" doesn't work, any other words we should try?"

Jack: "No."

If evolution isn't it, what might it be. It would be nice to have a menu or something- found it.

Jack: "Think "Menu", Emily."

I saw this when I thought menu.

Status Skills Magic Information Affinities *Evolve*

I guess the evolution option was highlighted because it was the recommended thing to do? Shouldn't we read the information first?

Jack: "So should we just go with the evolution, or read the information thing first?"

Emily: "Well, we don't have much choice. The information screen has the same message that the status screen does."

I think "information", and she is right.

Alert: You must complete your evolution before accessing the information screen.

Well, evolution it is, I suppose.

Jack: "You're right, well, shall we get this out of the way?"

Emily: "Yeah. I do want to know what I will become, but... we should probably be in different rooms before we do this. We don't know what will happen while the evolution occurs."

Jack: "Good point. I can do it in my room, and you can go in the spare bedroom."

Emily: "Okay."

We go upstairs and split up. Before I go into my room, pause and walk over to the spare bedroom. I grad Emily's shoulder, turn her around, and before I lose my nerve, I kiss her right on the lips. Just for a second, and then I back up a bit and wait for Emily to speak. I hope she's not mad, it's just that basically the apocalypse is going to happen, and we are about to do something that we don't know the effects of. I just wanted to do that in case anything happens.

Emily: "Wow, apparently you only need the threat of the apocalypse to finally get the courage to kiss me."

Huh? I expected maybe anger, embarrassment, anything but this. She just looks a little bit amused.

Jack: "Umm... what? I thought I might get a slap for that."

Emily: "Are you kidding? I have been waiting for you to get up the nerve to do that for a while. I didn't want to rush you, so I let you only do that when you were ready. Why did you do that anyway?"

Jack: "Well, I just thought that if anything goes wrong, I wanted to do that before whatever happens."

Emily: "So you wanted your last thing you did to be kissing me? Thats sweet of you, although I don't think anything will go wrong, this is the person controlling the universe we're talking about here. Well, at least you haven't taken billions of years, like those two we met. Let's do this."

Jack: " Oh... yeah."

I walk back over to my door, and close the door without looking back. Once inside, I again think "evolution", forgetting that that doesn't work. But I am surprised when instead of nothing, like before, I see a different screen than the previous ones.
