An average man looked at the beautiful girl in front of him. She was absolutely stunning, and he couldn't take his eyes off her. She was his childhood friend and best friend; however, he planned to risk everything.
On the day of graduation, the man suddenly made his way towards her. She seemed to notice him in their matching purple gowns and greeted him with a smile,
"Hey Oli! Can you believe it, dummy? We graduated!"
"Mhm, uh, Sarah?" As he responded, she playfully punched him in the arm.
"Hmm?"
"I-I would like to ask you something."
"Yeah?"
"I-I, uh, w-would like to go on a date with you!"
Sarah stared at him with wide eyes, and just when her face went beet red, she quickly rejected him while avoiding his eyes.
"Y-y-you dummy! W-why would I date someone like you? H-haha! Like, c'mon, Oliver."
"O-oh, I see. I-I'm sorry for bothering you…" Oliver kept his head down and quickly left the graduation venue. He smiled bitterly and mocked himself,
"I guess I wasn't wrong in waiting until after everything?"
Oliver was in the parking lot when he suddenly couldn't stop himself. He tried to at least play it off in front of Sarah. However, he was alone now, so he could cry, right? Right?
Although he kept trying to rationalize breaking down in public, he was already crying. His face slowly covered itself with snot and tears. With his damp face and broken heart, he slowly started to walk home.
Halfway through his journey, the world seemed to want to kick him while he was down, and rain started to pour down.
With dusk coming, Oliver finally arrived home to the empty house. He entered the house with his soaked gown and hair. Gently plopping down on the couch, he started to feel a heat swell in his chest.
He hated everything. He had been alone his entire life, no parents and no friends other than Sarah. Yet, even that one relationship had been ruined because of his stupid feelings. As his heart burned and his body shivered, he vowed,
"I will never love someone and admit it ever again!"
Unfortunately for him, a remnant of the world or maybe a powerful being heard his vow and took it too literally. With an incomprehensible force, a soothing feeling enveloped his body, and he slowly drifted to sleep. However, before he fully drifted into his slumber, he felt the weight of something light land on his chest.
The next morning, he opened his eyes to the light of dawn. His eyes were red, and he didn't even want to get off the couch. It was only then that he noticed a small envelope on top of him. He was confused; however, he noticed a small pink heart and believed it was from Sarah. With shaking and swift hands, he carefully opened the envelope. He stared at the note inside and quickly read its contents.
"Dear Oliver,
You do not know who I am. However, I took pity on your embarrassing moment. As such, when I heard your vow that had been filled with determination, I simply couldn't hold myself back. With that in mind, I have decided to make sure you honor your words and vow.
If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
I know you might wish such a vow could be broken; however, my deterrent will make sure such temptations will not overwhelm you. The most effective deterrent I could come up with for a mortal race was, death.
Sincerely,
A Nobody."
Oliver stared at the paper with wide eyes. He quickly scanned his living room; however, he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary or any cameras. He wondered who was crazy enough to give him this. Just then, he noticed a small arrow that pointed to the back of the paper. Quickly he turned it over and read its contents,
"To make sure your resolve and mind become even stronger, along with providing proof of my involvement, I have made a few changes to your body. I hope you enjoy them; also, they're completely permanent and natural."
Oliver started to slowly laugh at the idea. Someone changing his appearance without him knowing? Yeah, this was most definitely a prank. He started to wonder whether they dyed his hair or shaved his eyebrows. Either way, with light steps, he made his way to the bathroom and looked in the mirror.
However, he was met with someone completely different from him. He simply stared at the stranger's reflection for a few minutes. Only when everything finally processed in his mind did he suddenly scream,
"Whaaat the hell! Who the fuck is this bastard!?"
Instinctively, he punched the mirror with his full force. Although normally his absolutely pathetic amount of strength wouldn't even be able to break the mirror, the unexpected happened, and the mirror shattered. The result was anything but expected, yet Oliver didn't seem even a bit pleased.
"Aghhhhh!" Oliver yelped in pain and quickly took a towel nearby to his hand. His hand was now dripping with bright crimson blood along with pieces of glass inside the many cuts on his hand. He hated this! Although he was average, no, average was too high of a word for him. He was an extra, a background character, someone invisible.
However, he would rather look like a nobody than the sissy he saw in the mirror! His soft and delicate facial features. Those innocent angelic golden eyes. The pale skin that had no blemishes or filth. Then the short silky silver hair that rested softly on his face.
Holy hell. Oliver found himself not only charmed by himself, b-but, even a little lustful.
"Uhh, holy, no, no, no. I'm not falling for myself, right? Right!?" Oliver went to his knees and seemed to have more pain from the thought of falling for himself than from the glass in his hand. His cheeks went slightly reddish, and he covered his mouth with his healthy hand shyly,
"I-I mean, it's not so bad. Hehe, every man wants to look attractive, right? Mhm! Mhm! It's okay, I-I'm not going to fall for myself and die, right?"
