Chapter 7
As we left the plain, the big airpot waited for us. It was gigantic, not as much as A303, but still gigantic. The number of people surrounding us was truly headache-giving.
We went through official checks and after ours documents we checked, we were allowed in the city.
Taxi was already waiting for us in from of the airport, Noir arranged it to pick us up day before.
We entered it. “Drive us to ‘Lustrous Hotel’ in Old Cairo.” Rohan said to driver in Egyptian. He was the only one do us that could speak it fluently.
Through the ride, no one spoke anything, as if something may strike us at any moment. ‘This is going to show us if we are being monitored.’
I could feel something touching my leg. When I looked at it, I discovered it was Noir giving me a blue pill.
‘Some shit is definitely going to happen .’
I discreetly took it and swallowed it. My body temperature immediately dropped to a nearly freezing point and my skin got noticeably paler. I could feel my mana swirling inside me, excited that it became free.
I looked at Lily and noticed that she too did take the pill. Her eyes were much clearer, so much in fact that one could see their reflection without any problem.
‘Why did he give us the pill at this moment.’ I put my guard up, ready any moment to defend myself.
To my surprise, nothing happens. We arrived safely at the hotel.
“We have reservation for four.”
“One room for you four? The reservation name?”
“Lamela Rika.”
“Oh, I see your reservation, enjoy the stay at our hotel and if you need, just call the room service.” Said the female receptionist to Rohan as she gave him the keys.
We went upstairs to our room.
Finally, the uneasiness stopped as they entered the room. “Phew, that was scary.” Rohan added wiping the non-existent sweat of his forehead.
“Aren’t you a little pale, Alexander?” She quipped at me.
I rolled my eyes and ordered Rohan. “Rohan, please put a detection runes on windows and door.”
He nodded and went to work.
There were were actually two small identical rooms connected divorced by a wall and door in our suit. Both had two beds, and a window with a table and chairs for work in the middle. In front of every bed was a mini fridge with refreshments. There was one toilet and a small kitchen.

All in all, it was a basic hotel suit.
I wasn’t in contact with runes for a long time, but watching the being written was still fascinating. Rohan took a quill from his and started writing in the language I knew only bits.
As someone worthy of the Lord of Runes nickname, he finished very fast.
“Hey guys, please come here.” Noir called us from the other room.
“Sit, I have decided what we are going to do.” He said in authoritative voice, meaning that it was time to get formal.
It was really weird how he was always in brown, but his beard was gray. Even his hair was brown.
“The most important part now is to understand the rings. Rohan is to stay here and try to understand them.”
“Yes, Sir!” Rohan acknowledged.
“Lily and I are going to patrol around the Ancient Houses to see if and how much they know.”
“Yes, Sir!” Lily energetically said. I haven’t seen her that energetic since… ever. ‘This is really weird.’
“Alexander, you are to remain here and protect and assist Rohan in any way possible. You and I will be going to change our jobs every two days. Lily is going to accompany you on your duty, is that a problem?”
“It is not, Captain.” It seemed that he had a gist about our relationship.
“Do you have anything to add, Vice-Captain?” He asked, looking for any holes in his plan.
“No, I do not, Captain.” As far as I was concerned, his plan was perfect.
“Good, we will take a rest here for two hours and then start our mission.”
Rohan didn’t wait two hours and so didn’t I. He took an old book out and started inspecting the ring all over again.
I sat besides him with my guard on, ready to defend and attack.
As Lily and Noir walked on the streets of Old Cairo, she couldn’t help but notice the beauty it had. Restaurants, bars, shops and people were seen non-stop. The best thing was the Roman influence on Egyptian architecture. In fact, the Old Cairo was the only part of Cairo that still possessed Roman influence.
The sun was about to set and darkness to arrive as Lily asked a question. “Where are we going?”
“We are going to a bar called ‘Heaven’s Gift’. A nice little club that accommodates all those snotty people from Ancient Families and what is a better place to get rumors than a drunk man?” Noir stroked his beard.
Lily, now with her mana released, was much better at observing and she noticed that Noir stroked his beard a lot, especially when providing knowledge.
“Tell me Lily, what do you know about Ancient Families?” Noir inquired.
“Well, they are old families that worship their old gods and are incredibly rich.” She was a little embarrassed by her lack of knowledge, but she said it pridefully anyways.
Noir chuckled and said. “Well, yeah. They also got a heavy relationship with the government, but that’s the gist of it. If anyone knows anything about this sort of place we are supposed to find, they will know.”
Lily nodded and once again admired the elderly man.
“Here we are, the ‘Heavens Gift’.” He pointed to an old, Roman building. It seemed like a beggars home.
“This is it?” Lily couldn’t believe that this was the rich people HQ.
Noir ignored her and entered the building with Lily following him.
What awaited her was unbelievable. LED lights, the loudest music she has ever heard and a bunch of people of all ages dancing. There were even a few grandpas older than Noir dancing.
‘There is no chance that this space isn’t expanded. There is even sound isolation.’ The club looked tiny from the outside and it was ginormous from the inside.
“GO TO THE BAR AND ASK AROUND. I WILL DO THE SAME WITH PEOPLE OF MY AGE. WE WILL MEET OUTSIDE IN AN HOUR.”Noir shouted so Lily could hear him from the loud music.
She nodded and went to the bar.
“W-Would you let me buy you a drink?” A masculine voice that spoke clear English was whispered to Lily.
He probably recognized that she was a foreigner by her not-so-traditional clothes. Lily was wearing yellow top with a brown long skirt.
She turned around and saw a cute twenty years old young man with olive skin tone with very short brown hair.
“Of course you can! I am Lily, what is your name?” Lily smiled flirtatiously.
“I am A-Abasi Seth from the S-Seth family.” He stammered.
She cover her mouth with her palm and said. “Oh my God, you are from the Seth family?”
He nodded and gave her a more confident smile. Ego pumping was working.
They got their drinks and made a small talk for a while before Lily went into offensive.
“You know, I have heard some rumors.” Lily closed a distance between two of them. “That there is some place that mystically appeared here somewhere.”
Abasi’s face went from relaxed to shocked. He was a little tipsy. “Where did you hear that?” He asked whispered in my ear as he looked around himself.
“So, it is true?” Lily asked she once more closed the distance between them. Their hips were touching now.
Abasi gulped and answered. “Look, I am really not supposed to talk about this right now, but-“ He looked at her hip before continuing. “It is true. Even I don’t know much about it, but my father said something about Giza’s Pyramids.”
Lily nodded and whispered him sweetly in the ear. “Thanks, can we meet again tomorrow at the same time.”
He looked at her dumbly and Lily didn’t even wait for answer as she left the club.
The sound of music leaving her ears and never again entering felt refreshing.
‘Ugh, I can’t believe that worked.’ Lily felt disgusted at herself, but this was not the first time she needed to flirt for information.
‘I am totally not meeting with him again.’
Noir was already waiting outside of the club with her. They started walking back to hotel.
“So, what did you get?” Noir inquired.
“I was told that it is somewhere in the Pyramids.” She answered, immensely proud of her contribution.
She felt the strange need to prove herself to this man.
Noir’s eyebrows shot up and he frowned. “Are you sure that you heard right?”
Lily just nodded, not knowing why he was acting strangely
“Well, my sources told me that location I need is the deepest of the Nile River.”
They arrive at the hotel and went upstairs in their room.
“What is happening then?” Lily was confused, and her newly unlocked brain power tried to think of all the possible explanations.
“Well, it is possib-“ Noir paused as he took look at our room.
In there was Rohan tending Alexander who was on the the bed, deep wound across his chest and blood gushing out of it.
