Chapter 6
BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP
The sound of alarm woke me up and I immediately sprung into action. I took a shower and put a brown long trench coat with a black pants. I packed my other trench coats and pants into coffer and went downstairs.
My father and mother were waiting in living room. Upon seeing me, my mom launched at me and started crying.
“Must…you…go? She asked in-between her wails.
Now, I may have been stone hearted bastard, but I still loved my mom.
I patted her head and said. “Don’t cry on me, Mom. Extra college credits are going to help me bunch in the future.”
Yeah, Nero sent a few people few years ago and successfully convinced my parents that I can work for menial jobs for the various parties and I would get an easier admission to college.
“You…are…right.” My mother didn’t stop crying.
I went to Dad and we had a stare off. He seemed as if he was still suspicious, but a moment later, his face completely softened and he said. “Come here.”
He hugged me and held me tight. I also made sure to give him a few tights too. ‘As people would say, every mission can be your last one.’
“Your mother had a proposal to you, but she is currently too emotional for that. We will talk when you get back.”
“Yes, Dad. Now, off I go.” I said as we separated.
My father nodded. “Off you go.”
I looked around for my brother, but he was nowhere to be found. ‘Weird.’ He usually graced me with his presence when I went away.
Deciding that I already spent too much time, I went outside, limo already waiting for me..
“Drive me to the A303 airport.” The driver nodded and we started the car.
’It is pity that we can’t just get teleported to Cairo. Their government body is probably monitoring any magical infiltrations.’
If what I thought was true, it meant that the whole upper seat of Egypt was already aware of what was happening.
‘Maybe the world is going to get another mega-power.’ The mega-powers were beings or objects that were only able to be stopped by another mega-power.
For example, no amount of Masters or Grandmasters can stop the Three of Magi.
The Three of Magi from Britain; The Elder Dragon from North America; The King of Beasts in South America; The Impenetrable Fortress from China; The Nuclear Bombs from International Human Federation (IHF);
This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
That was what one end up knowing if they were to search ‘alive mega-powers’ on internet.
During my musing, driver arrived at the airport. “We arrived, Sir.” I thanked him, took my coffer and left.
The A303 airpot was truly and utterly gigantic with more than five million people passing each day through it. It had more than a three hundred landing spots and seven super malls.
“Your name Alexander Hunter?” Asked an obviously foreign man behind me. When I turned around, I saw that he had a mask on his face.
I nodded.
“I need you teleport.” He said, as he showed me his military badge.
‘Well, that explains it.’ Nero did not give us any travel tickets and I wondered how we were supposed to travel.
I gave him my hand. He closed his eyes for a few second and when he opened them, I disappeared.
When I appeared I was on a small flying plane with a circular table and a four chairs around it.
To teleport someone on a flying plane would need an expertise of Nero or at least one of his students. Not students like me though. He may call me his student, but he only taught me basics, he was not water Magician after all.
All members of my team were sitting on their designated chairs. Nothing me, Noir stood up and shook my hand.
“Welcome, Alexander. I have heard many stories about you. If you may sit so we can start this important conversation.”
Rohan also shook my hand and greeted me. Lily spared me a nod as I sat down.
“Now that we are all here, I think that we should know more about each other if we want to function as a team.” Noir said, almost grandfatherly quality taking his voice.
It was classic procedure when working with team so I had no qualms about that. How could you trust someone to protect you if you don’t even know who they are?
After everyone nodded, Noir clapped his hands. “That is good to hear, I will start first and then everyone needs to make on statement about.”
He thought about it for a while and then said. “I have two daughters, twins actually. They are both twenty-three years old.”
Next was Rohan. “I always dreamed as a kid to be a Magician. Something. About holding all that power interested me. Later, I have found my love in Runes, but I still appreciate all aspects of magic.”
I decided to go next. “I am a water Magician in a family of fire Magicians.”
I decided that it was the one that would make me closest to them without doing too much harm if it got out.
Noir was the first one to react. “Oh my God, I am so sorry. Do your parents know it yet?”
I shook my head. “I couldn’t tell them, this job demanded it so.”
“You will need to tell them someday, Son.”
I nodded.
Rohan was also early trying to find the right words to say, but I just shook the head. ‘No need to rub the salt in the wound.’
Thankfully, Lily said. “I am a cheerleader in school. It is plenty of fun, especially with other girls that share similar interests.”
And we went so in circles and to be honest, I learnt many interesting things my my comrades. Noir was actually retired and since his wife died and his daughters lived away from him, he decided to come back from retirement,
Rohan was unexpectedly single. A man that handsome couldn’t for surely had a lot of choice.
Lily was opening up though and she told us how she would like to attend College of Finest Arts in America. Apparently, she painted.
By that time, I should have already made a few quips and snickers to her, but every time during missions for some inexplicable reason, my pessimism and cynicism went away.
For the end, I felt the need to notify the team about my friends in Cairo as they could pose a problem.
“That is nothing to worry about. You will meet them once and then tell them that you are too busy.” Noir proposed.
“That is exactly what I was thinking.” I was already starting to like this old man.
The next thing we discussed was a plan on how to find this something. But we ultimately decided that we needed more information before we wanted to make an actually good plan.
After all the talking, I decided to sleep for a little bit more so I can spring into action the moment we arrive.
“Wow, to think that he is an actual apprentice of Lord of Space.” Rohan said in wonderment as we watched Alexander asleep.
‘Of course he has the big-shot as his teacher. Does anything ever go wrong in his life?’ This just made Lily resent Alexander even more.
What woke her up from her resentment was a touch in her shoulder. “Are you okay? Noir asked in his grandfatherly voice, worry etched on his face.
Lily noticed that her face was stiff and that she was frowning. “Yeah, I am okay, thanks.” Answered Lily distantly as she removed her eyes from Alexander. She instantly felt her face relaxing.
“You don’t like him, do you?” Noir inquired.
“Why would you think so?” She rapidly answered. She didn’t want Noir and Rohan to think that she was even worse for the mission if she had a feelings of hatred towards Alexander.
“It is obvious, little lady. You resent him for something, but you don’t even know what for, right?” He said and nodded knowingly.
‘Is it really true what Noir is saying?’ Lily wondered but then shook her head. She knew exactly what she hated him for, she just need a little time to compile it.
“You know, I met my best friend, may God rest his soul, in a similar fashion. We initially hated each other, but after clearing up the understanding between us, we became inseparable.”
Noir closed his eyes and continued. “He ended up sacrificing his life for me.”
“Oh my God.” Rohan covered his mouth with his hand, tears were forming in his eyes. Rohan was definitely of a dramatic sort.
Lily snorted but didn’t say anything. Whatever she said would make her look a like villain.
Being a friend with Alexander Hunter was an impossibility. She would much rather think about his dreamy brother.
Seeing Lily’s reaction, Noir sighed, but didn’t offer anything else to say.
“It is time to wake up Alexander, we are arriving.” From the window one could see the big city with where light was always in existence and the Great Pyramids of Giza.
If only Lily knew how this one mission would change her life forever…
