Awakening with a jolt, Roman found himself on the hard floor of the medbay. Sitting up slowly, and looking around, he could see almost thirty other personnel on the floor, in makeshift cots. The actually injured personnel were laying on the proper beds, or were inside the medical pods. The medics rushed around, carefully stepping around the unconscious and tended with speed and efficiency. Roman could feel dull pain in his formerly dislocated shoulder and leg, but this did not stop him sitting up. He slowly began attempting to stand, and noticed that he was being ignored by the staff of the medbay. Looking around again, he scanned the room for the Private, and then began approaching a bed, upon seeing her rabbit ears.
As he nears her, he hears a medic, “Go sit back down, soldier. You are still injured, despite being tended to.” Turning to look at the voice, he responds immediately, calm and relaxed, “I can deal with a little pain. Had worse in basic, like most. I’d rather check on my tank crew. I’m sure you’d feel the same for one of your medbay fleetmen?” The medic frowns at this, and then nods, “Aye. I would. But I would still urge them and myself to rest. Because that’s the biggest thing that allows us to return to the fight. Keep that in mind.” The medic turns and walks away, heading off to tend to the less injured now, as most seemed to be patched up. Roman looked to the Private, and continued to approach, stopping beside her bed, and simply waiting.

Ryk had managed to get out of the way of most medical procedures during her stay in the medbay. She had been walking around, and she was no longer terrified of the nanomachines that were injected into her, as she hadn’t been harmed by them. At least not noticeably, as she had no more pains or aches. She did however, notice that the medics did not inject many with those syringes, only doing so to those truly crying out in pain. Even the medic who injected her, did not inject her fellow fleetmen, which worried her about having taken supplies that they may desperately need.
It was about two more hours until she was fully healed, but she felt fine now. Fine enough to stand and walk away. She had to go talk to someone in charge. It was imperative that she did, as she hadn’t been able to worry about the balance of the world in such a long time. She absolutely had to meet with their Commanding Officer and speak with them, pay her debt, and restore balance. That was what she needed to do. A life for a life, if necessary, then she would leave and return to the wilds of the vacuum and planets. Free of the IIA’s grasp, and free of any war.
She calmly walked the halls, heading for where she believed the bridge to be, based on the exterior of the ship. Injured and uninjured fleetmen ran past her over time, heading to places she did not know. She could stop one, and ask for directions to the bridge, but if she did, she would impede their progress in whatever task they were doing. She could not do that at this moment. She had to reach the bridge, without damaging the sturdy balance anymore.

The radio operator looked back at her again, and shook his head once more. Hannah cursed under her breath, before stating, “Keep attempting to contact the frontline. We need to get into contact with them, or we will not survive.” The radio operator turns back around, continuing their futile attempts to contact friendly forces. She then looked over to the synthetic frame standing beside her, its face human-like, with blinking eyes, sharp brown hair cut short over the shoulders, and slightly tanned looking synthetic skin. It wore a simple suit, with glowing orange bands around spots on its body. The edges of its eyes’ irises glew a bright neon red, and Hannah knew the feelings the A.A.I had at that moment. So she spoke calmly to the Ship A.I, “Magus. We’ll get our revenge for this. Just keep yourself calm. No need to be angry right now.”
Magus looks at her Captain, her face showing no emotions, aside from the irises, as she responds, “This is the perfect time for anger, Captain. We have injured, and cannot contact our comrades for medevac. The Rebels have cut off our ways of communication, so we cannot even contact the team that boarded the Legatus. We have no way of knowing if we will survive, or if we will even be able to save that team. Add on the fact that we were not briefed on this planet, as we were never meant to be boots on the ground. We will be lucky if even a single fleetman knows the topography or ecology of the local area, even passingly. This is a highly dangerous situation, and it puts my processes into an untenable situation. Matrix Three has failed all but one primary focus. Matrix One has failed all primary foci. Matrix Two is useful but too inefficient. Matrix Four is highly inefficient for this situation, but is my only option thanks to its well rounded status. Sub Core Alfa is heavily damaged, with possible memory loss. Currently searching for damaged files. Sub Core Bravo is heavily damaged, with possible memory loss. Currently searching for damaged files. Main Core is being prepared for transfer to frame PapaFoxtrot, for safe keeping and personal protection. Everything is shit, Captain. The crew is hurt, and I am hurt. The ship is in tatters, and the rebels may be marching on our position as we speak. I believe my anger is justified, Captain.”
Hannah looks solemnly at the A.A.I. before stating, “That may be the case, Magus, but we need to keep level heads. I know you won’t have trouble with that, but you can still be clouded by emotion, as an Advanced Artificial Intelligence. There’s plenty of cases of that exact thing happening. Just be prepared for anything, alright? And go get your core set into that frame.” Magus begins to frown, before turning and walking away. Hannah watches the A.A.I. go, and then returns her attention to the equipment before herself. All required for the ship to be controllable. All offline.

Where the hell was the bridge? Ryk arrived at the highest point in the ship. The logical bridge, when looking at the design from an exterior position, yet it wasn’t here. The cracked glass was not broken, but what was clearly a bridge, was never a bridge in the first place. Ryk was confused and baffled. This was extremely strange and baffling to the Freeborne. She stared for a few seconds, before turning around and exiting back into the hall. She saw no fleetmen while in this part of the ship, so in hindsight it made sense that there was nothing important up here. She began walking her way back, intent on asking for directions.
After some guidance, she made her way to the real bridge, which was located in a far more protected area than that exposed part of the ship. After another thirty minute walk, she finally arrives. Entering, she hears someone speaking, while the rest of the bridge crew were at their normal posts, or missing. At a central point in the room, stood a woman, stoic and standing tall. A voice piped up from one of the stations, “No voidic signatures, Ma’am.” The woman speaks in response, her voice commanding and calm, “Keep monitoring. Tell me immediately if that changes.” Ryk begins to approach the woman, as she states with a stutter, “E- Excuse me. Are you the Captain?”
The woman looks back at Ryk, her gaze piercing and dominant, as she answers in a calm and cold tone, “Yes. What can I do for you, Freeborne?” Ryk felt extremely nervous, and out of place. She felt as if she was staring down a predator that would lunge at her throat at any minute, and then rip it out. She spoke, steeling herself as she does, “I wish to repay my debts.” The Captain turns back around, immediately answering, “No debt is to be repaid. You owe us nothing. It is our duty to tend to civilians, and protect them. If you can fly, leave the area immediately, and evacuate the system.” Ryk spoke calmly, though she began to get nervous at that thought, “I can’t. I need to repay my debts, so that I can take another debt. The Intorakians are in this system.” This catches the Captain’s attention immediately, and she turns her head towards Ryk, clearly listening, despite not facing her.
The Captain spoke, her tone becoming deadly and somehow even more cold, “You’re saying the IIA moved a ship, or even a fleet, deep into Andromedan space, and was unnoticed?” Ryk nods, as she states, “I wouldn’t lie about this. Especially when I managed to escape from them, and came to you for refuge.” The Captain is silent, before she looks forward again, stating, “Do what you can then. When you feel your debt is paid, and we can, we will take you to friendly lines, and send you on your way in a ship.” Ryk knew the Captain would not abandon her, and would have likely still allowed her this situation, even if she had not told her about the IIA’s presence, but Ryk knew the IIA would attempt to harm more people if nothing was done about them. This was a way to protect the balance, even if it was far more dangerous an option. Ryk was fine with this, and she turned, ready to help where she could.
