I should stop being surprised all the time. But DAMN! That’s quite a haul, even more than I expected. Those attribute gains to the Mind stat is insane and I even managed to earn a trait. Adam was feeling quite pleased with his gains. He had expected to gain a lot after defeating a creature 13 levels above him but still his gains had managed to surprise him. He even managed to upgrade his growth title to the second rank after killing the beast. Well, let’s get to it and check this shit out
He first checked the trait he had earned.
User, you have proved yourself on multiple occasions that you only challenge those stronger than yourself and so have rightfully earned to be called a Challenger.
Increases damage dealt by 20% against foes whose levels are higher than user.
Decreases damage dealt by 20% against foes whose levels are lower than user.
Decreases damage taken by 10% from foes whose levels are higher than.
Damn. Things just keep getting better and better. I was already hitting above my weight class and now with this trait I’m going to be able to hit even harder. Although that bit about lower damage against enemies with levels lower is a bit of a letdown. But my stats and attributes should more than make up for it, I’m sure of it. Adam was happy with his trait. The trial was full of creatures stronger than him and the trait allowed him to dish out more damage against anything higher level than him. It was perfect for his situation.
Next he checked out the skills he had learned.
Mental Bulwark*(R): A passive mental defense skill learned after devouring a Mindflayer Simian. The creature this skill originates from had excellent mental abilities and chief among those abilities was its ability to protect its mind against attacks. The skill is simple yet powerful and protects the user’s mental state against all forms of mental attacks. The skill provides increased effectiveness with proficiency.
Increased resistance to mental afflictions
Increased resistance to mental damage
Increased resistance against illusions
Slightly Increased resistance to detection by mental skills.
Psychic Obfuscation*(E): A passive active mental skill learned after devouring a Mindflayer Simian. This skill is derived from the creature’s ability to hide and blend in with the surrounding. The creature does this by using its ability to release psychic waves into its surrounding which affect sentient creatures in its vicinity, the psychic waves cause the creatures to ignore the user’s presence and location. The skill in its passive state causes creatures to disregard user’s presence as long as user is not in direct line of sight. In active state the skill uses 10 mana/min and causes the creatures in the vicinity to actively ignore the user’s scent and tracks along with presence. Skill cancels once user initiates an attack. Effectiveness of skill dependent on enemies MIND stats and user’s MIND stats and proficiency with the skill.

Pretty damn good utility skills, in fact that last one is downright epic! Ok that was a horrible pun. I still can’t wait to try out that psychic stealth skill. With this I won’t have to be so damn jittery every time I’m moving around in the forest. And I bet once I’ve leveled that skill up I can use it to get close to enemies and launch surprise attacks to their vitals, like an assassin or a ninja! Woah there Adam!! You’re getting a little too much! Anymore and you’re going to go slip into the weaboo abyss.
Adam was happy with the skills he had and was already contemplating on how he could use it and add it to his repertoire. His skills were leaning towards a damage heavy setup, the skills were designed to disregard enemy defenses and deliver fatal damage. His titles further compounded the effect by increasing the percentage of defense ignored with enemy level. His loadout was made for dealing fatal damage on the initial salvo to enemies higher level than him but he still had a fatal weakness that he didn’t have a way to fix. He couldn’t take on multiple enemies by himself. If he faced more than 1 enemy regardless of level, his chances of success go down and he didn’t have a skill that could fix it, nor did he have any idea how he could go about doing that. Yet.
He was hoping eventually he’d learn a skill or ability that would compensate for his lack of crowd control or barring that he was planning on gaining enough levels and stats so that he would be able to at least not outright die if he had to fight more than 1 enemy. He was sure that if he continued gaining levels, he was going to get strong enough to contend with multiple enemies, that was if he hadn’t learned a crowd control skill or an aoe skill by the time he got strong enough to do so. But Adam was sure he would find some creature with a useful ability that could help him against multiple enemies. After all there are probably hundreds of different creatures in this forest and surely one of them would have the kind of ability I need.
Ok enough contemplating on things I don’t have and can’t do. My skills are extremely useful for this ambush and kill strategy which I’m using right now and I am going to stick to it till I get strong enough. Speaking of skills I wonder how much they’ve improved. Adam brought up his skills.

Adam had gained proficiency in all his skills except for the new ones he had gained, he was actually surprised by how much they had improved in just a few hours. Maybe it’s because the first few levels in proficiency are easier to earn? or maybe because I’m in a high-level area and facing creatures who are higher level than me? Adam had a few thoughts as to why he had such fast skill growth, he wasn’t certain but he was sure it had something to do with the high level creatures he had killed.
Now to check out my stats but before I do that, I need to check out my Giant Killer title that got upgraded.
But you have outdone yourself once more, you have faced a monster 10 levels above you alone and not only did you survive you managed to vanquish it. Your legend grows and yet you still have a long way to go.
This title is a

Holy shit! This is awesome. The upgraded title didn’t give me anything new but pushed the effects of the title to another level.
That damage boost is sick and so is that ability to ignore defense and to top it all off I get 30% efficiency instead of 20%. Adam was elated with his upgraded title and was already thinking about how he could upgrade it to the next rank. Monster Lord? What is that? A super monster? A king? The question in his head was soon answered by a notification from the system.
Monster Lords: Monsters are created due to the confluence of
So a boss monster? Well can’t say I’m surprised, at this point I’m just glad there aren’t any World Bosses, there aren’t any World bosses right? Adam waited for a notification or something from his system but was met with silence. Sigh! Well as far killing a Monster Lord is concerned, I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. For now I need to focus on surviving and completing this trial. One last thing left before I go to sleep. Adam brought up his interface.
