Adam had gained points in every single one of his attributes and if he added the increase in efficiency from his titles, he was already stronger than when he first got to Terra. He felt melancholic for a moment thinking about the permanent loss of attributes he had suffered but he stopped himself from thinking any further on it.

I mean if I really think about it the only reason I managed to get a title was because I ended up in that situation and the only reason I survived that fight with the Stone lizard was because of that title. I was lucky in a way. There’s no point in debating myself over the what ifs. I just need to learn from my mistakes and do better.

Adam was correct in his conclusion that he was lucky, the only reason he was still alive was due to the system and his luck and thanks to that luck he was stronger than he when he started and his odds of surviving and completing the gauntlet was much better with his new titles. He was sure of that fact, he had taken a step towards finding a way back home and he felt he was heading in the right direction.

As Adam was feeling good about himself, his stomach rumbled and he felt the onset of hunger, in fact it felt like he was starving, he hadn’t had any food since he got to Terra and he didn’t think that the monster meat counted as food. He needed to find something to eat but it was dark outside of his cave, he could see nothing beyond the entrance of his cave, no light at all. Nights are going to be a pain in the ass, can’t afford to get caught outside when it’s dark, wouldn’t be able to see shit. The real nasty stuff probably comes out at night. He decided to wait till dawn before he went out in search for food but he still had to finish the rest of his notifications before he could do anything else. This feeling of hunger though…it’s like I haven’t eaten in days…

Congratulations! User has gained enough essence to level up.

User is now level 1. Gained 10 free attribute points and 1 stat point.

User has gained an aptitude.

User can select a class.

That level up gave me less points than what I earned during the fight. Did I earn more during the fight because I was weaker than average? Or was it because I was fighting something much stronger than me? Adam pondered as he read the message. Still, I can assign these points any way I want and I even got a stat point so this is just as good. But the best news is that I’ve earned an aptitude and I can finally choose a class. Adam was feeling excited about the aptitude and class. Aptitudes were given when you reach level one and from what he had inferred the aptitude depended on how you had earned your first level.

The class selection was based on the aptitude as well as some other factors but aptitude played a significant role in the options you got and your decision on the path forward. Having both would significantly increase his chances of surviving and completing the . He took a breath before he mentally clicked on the next notification.

Congratulations! User has revealed his aptitude.

User has gained aptitude [ Glutton ].

Glutton? That doesn’t sound like an aptitude. It sounds more like an insult. Is the interface making fun of my ability to eat? Adam was more than a bit put off with his aptitude. It Should be strong right? I hope its at least useful. Adam thought as he checked the details.

Aptitude [ Glutton ] : The aptitude revealed by Adam Clement. While aptitudes are unique to each individual and vary in effects, they are all powerful and will prove instrumental in the paths ahead. Actions taken prior to having earned an aptitude play a role in the aptitude revealed during their first level. You have earned your aptitude through killing and devouring a foe more powerful than yourself. You have faced impossible odds and yet have managed to devour your fate each time.

User can ingest slain foes to have a chance to learn their abilities.

User is immune to poisons and curses.

User gains +1 SOUL stat with every level and + 1 to all MIND and BODY attributes per level and +2 to all SOUL attributes per level.

Efficiency of all attributes +20%

Efficiency of all skills learned through consumption increased by 25%

Passively absorb essence from foes to boost all forms of regen by 25%

Beware for he comes, the eater of worlds

Holy shit! The sheer number of stat points and boosts this gives is just unreal. I wish I had something to compare it to…No chance of that right now but damn Adam! Even if the name was ridiculous, the benefits provided were just broken. The boost to all my stats and immunity to poisons and curses is just stupid good but the ability to learn skills from the creatures I eat takes the cake. I could abuse the fuck out of this skill. Wait! Are the skills I learned counted in my upper limit? I hope they aren’t because that would be broken! Adam had been feeling dubious about his aptitude but after reading the description he was excited. Here was his chance to complete the gauntlet. His chance at strength and power.

The aptitude was powerful, too powerful to come without drawbacks. Although they weren’t mentioned but Adam had a hunch that there would be drawbacks, anything that sounded too good to be true, usually had hidden costs attached to it.

He would find out soon enough anyway and even if there were drawbacks not like he had any other options to choose from. He would use what he earned to survive and get stronger. It was either that or death.

Adam was already planning on the ways he wanted to test out his aptitude but he realized he needed to put it on hold until he selected a class. With all the excitement experienced over his aptitude, he had almost forgotten about the fact that he had yet to choose a class and so without waiting further he willed the next notification.

Congratulations! User has achieved level 1 and has earned the right to choose a class.

Please choose one from below.

1. Savage Warrior

2. Ambush hunter

3. Calamitous Survivor

4. Neophyte wildling

5. Aberrant monster-mancer

5 options to choose from and they all sound like something out of Mad max movie. At least from the names they sound like they’re going to be strong or useful in my situation. Let’s see if we can get more details.

1.Savage Warrior: A warrior who constantly seeks life and death struggles. His path is a razor's edge between victory and death, fueled by a madness to improve, to earn power in order to fight even stronger foes and face even more danger. Unlike others on the martial path, the Savage warrior seeks strength in order to seek more challenges. Savage warriors forego traditional training and martial techniques, in order to create their own unique path.

2.Ambush Hunter: A hunter who relies on surprise and making use of the environment to deliver deadly attacks targeting weaknesses of unsuspecting prey. Their ability to hide and blend into the environment along with their ability to spot weaknesses make them dangerous to whatever they target.

3.Calamitous Survivor: A survivor of calamities. While others perish due to the whims of fate, the calamitous survivor stands a better chance of surviving. His ability to save his life and hide from danger can only be matched by few other classes but they forgo the ability of other classes to hunt powerful monsters and instead put all their focus on surviving situations which would see those classes perish.

4.Neophyte Wildling: A class earned by few and the few who earn it, rarely are they able to reach its full potential. The class shuns the usage of weapons and equipment and instead focus on observing and understanding creatures in the wild to mimic their movements and abilities using their own bodies. They learn no skills or abilities of their own except their ability to observe and learn.

5.Aberrant Monster-mancer: A powerful class tainted by consumption of monster flesh. Unlike most classes this class focuses on killing and consuming monster flesh to grow powerful. There are no true limits to the power this class can display but beware with each monster consumed the user becomes more corrupted and will grow closer to becoming a true Aberration.

Adam let out a small whistle after he went through the details. There wasn’t any specific information on stats or skill given by any of the classes and whatever information the interface gave was kept vague and up for interpretation. Adam tried to glean what he could from the details provided and the conclusions he made based on his assumptions. Choosing the correct class was going to have a huge effect on his future and he didn’t want to rush in blind or make a choice without giving it some thought.

He tried his best to apply his mind and decipher the vague details given in the descriptions. From what he understood the Savage Warrior class was a cross between a berserker and warrior from traditional games. He probably had powerful skills and abilities to deal damage but from the lack of any descriptions regarding tanking and survival abilities, he probably didn’t have much or the ones he possessed were lackluster.

The Ambush Hunter was like an assassin or rogue class. HARD PASS. Adam was all for using the environment and exploiting weakness but he didn’t want to rely ONLY on those two factors. He wasn’t always going to be in a favorable environment or get to decide where he fought. He wasn’t going to pick that class no matter what.

Calamitous Survivor sounded like it had a lot of ways to escape danger and a lot of survivability. But Adam didn’t just want to survive. He wanted to get stronger and thrive in this world. He needed power and while Calamitous Survivor would increase his chances of surviving fatal situations, it didn’t do anything to improve his ability to kill.

Three of the classes while they sounded powerful or useful did not really call to Adam. He felt that they were rather lackluster and so he was left to decide between the last 2 classes.

Neophyte Wildling sounded like it could be powerful, learning skills by just observing sounded awesome and he was sure the class wound mesh extremely well with his aptitude but the penalty of learning no skills or abilities on its own and the restriction on using weapons and equipment was extremely harsh. He didn’t have any proper equipment, correction, he didn’t have any equipment right now but he was sure he’d get some eventually if he survived but not being able to use weapons or equipment left a sour taste in his mouth.

The Aberrant Monster-mancer on the other hand was powerful. Even the system said so. Although the idea of consuming monster parts to get stronger was disgusting, he still felt he could do that if it made him stronger but that part at the end that talked about corruption and becoming an Aberration, that part worried him. While he was extremely tempted by the power the class promised he was leery of the cost. He didn’t know what being corrupted and turning into an Aberration meant but it didn’t sound good at all.

Adam thought about his choices for a long time but ultimately decided that there really was only one option that he could take in his situation.

And do he made his choice.
