"Looks like I'm going to get busy again." I mumbled to myself, seeing the Mission Available notice.
"Meow?" said Bean, looking up at me from my lap.
"Nothing. Just talking to myself." I said to her with a smile as I stroked under her chin, causing her to purr in satisfaction, one of the many things that I found very interesting about her.
Bean was a cat with intelligence capable of rivaling humans and the experience of having seen more centuries than possibly any other creature on the planet, yet she still succumbed to her baser instincts. She enjoyed getting her fur stroked, her chin scratched, and lazing around doing nothing, much like a normal cat.
Though, it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering that humans aren't much different. We are vengeful, greedy, and lustful creatures that reign it in because everyone else does and it's socially unacceptable to always act on our baser instincts. But if given the chance, most people would. Humans truly are complicated yet exceedingly simple creatures.
'Hope this is a mission I can do and not one I can't. Would hate to turn down a chance to see a different world, not to mention a reward and SP.' I thought before opening The System and navigating to the Mission Tab.

'Hololive, eh? I didn't think something like that would count as a world considering the lore for it was very loosely structured. I only vaguely remember there being lore after holoMyth was announced, and even then it was all based on the talents.
Also, World Difficulty wasn't there before either. Why is it here now?'
[World Difficulty, which scales from F to SSS+, was added to show User that Mission Difficulty is not always a direct representation of World Difficulty]
'I see. So the mission could be something easy like cleaning a house, but if the world I have to go clean the house in is the SCP world, there could still be danger. And Hololive being SS makes sense when you consider that there are conceptual beings like those on Council.
So, what was the previous mission's world difficulty?'
[F+]
'F+. That means F is a normal human world with nothing and F+ means there is something kinda dangerous like zombies. High School of the Dead would most likely fall into this category as well. I wonder what my world's difficulty is?' I thought to no reply.
This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
'No response. Interesting. Well if I had to scale it myself, I'd probably say E at the very least. The Crystal and the Immortal Black Cat in my lap mean there is something more at work in this world, which automatically bumps it up to at least an E in my mind. With more missions, I'll be able to grade it better. I just hope it's not too crazy.
Anyway, the Mission Difficulty being Medium+ is a little worrying, even if the mission itself sounds easy enough. But if it's delivering KFP, the fried chicken restaurant owned by Takanashi Kiara, the Phoenix, things might get a little crazy.
But the reward is just too tempting. A Medium-High Character Token is too good of a reward to give up if it is what I think it is. Is it?'
[Character Token]
- Gain the abilities and knowledge of a random character from the Omniverse.
- Knowledge will not have any adverse side effects on the User's state of mind.
- User will be allowed to reject certain abilities if they come with a detrimental side effect.
'Okay. It is what I think it is. And now I want it even more. Considering it's a Medium-High reward, the characters that could be chosen are too enticing to give up the mission. Not to mention the mystery reward which should be at least as good as a Character Token, if not slightly worse.' I thought before closing my eyes to weigh the pros and cons.
'The pros heavily outweigh the cons, but not by much considering a big con is death. But no risk, no reward. I'll recheck my inventory and stock up on some things before accepting the mission, just in case.
Might as well close up shop early. Not like there's any reason for me to be here anyway.'
"Sir, there is someone at the door." said Anivia.
'Spoke too soon.'
"Show me." I said as one of my four totally necessary monitors changed to show the video feed of the camera at the front door.
A mid-20s to late 30s man dressed in a suit and tie was standing at the front entrance, peering into the glass doors trying to see if anyone was inside.
"ID him." I said and not a second later, Anivia responded.
"Jeremy Trent, 27, former Software Engineer at Microsoft." she said.
"So he probably wants a job."
"Yes, sir. According to his Facebook, he has been on several job interviews over the past couple of weeks."
"Too bad for him. We're not hiring just yet." I said as I stood up from my comfy office chair, while Bean jumped off my lap onto the ground before I started to go downstairs.
Walking through an empty office was a little creepy at first, but I had gotten used to it over the past couple of weeks. Except at night, it was still creepy.
Reaching the first floor, I walked to the entrance before unlocking it and then opening it.
"Can I help you?" I asked the man who was surprised at having seen me.
"I-is this the HQ for the Tinder app?"
"The Tinder app? Do you even know the name of the company?" I asked, baffled he would ask for a job at a company whose name he did not even know.
"Chronicle?" he said, unsure.
"Is that a question or an answer?"
"Chronicle."
"Better. How can I help you?"
"I-I'm looking for a job and I was wondering if you're hiring?" he asked, looking a little hopeful after weeks of no success.
"Not at the moment, sorry."
"C-can I at least leave my resume?"
"Sure." I said as he opened his briefcase, took out his resume, and then handed it to me.
"Thank you."
"Mm-hmm. Good luck on the job hunt." I said to him, closing the door and locking it again.
Looking at the area of the first floor that would be the reception area in the future, I noticed it was a little drab and dull.
'Should probably get some artwork or sculptures or something. Maybe I can hire Spencer from iCarly. His stuff is way more interesting to look at than whatever modern art is. It can wait though.' I thought as I put the resume on the receptionist's desk where it would sit with a big pile of other resumes until the day I decided to properly look through them.
"Alright, let's close up shop for today."
Going back up to my office, located on the fourth floor, I picked up my things and Bean, locked up the office, and drove to the store to stock up on supplies.
