Chapter 7 - A necessary conversation [2]

“Honey, did you notice it as well today?” Amanda spoke as she looked at Jacob as they lay on the bed in their room.

“If you are talking about Julian then yes I noticed it as well, it was too abrupt to not notice” he said as he looked at his wife.

“I know right, for a moment I almost thought someone took over his body using dark magic, but I checked and there was nothing wrong.”

“Seems like our sun just matured overnight doesn’t it.” she said with a tiny laugh at the absurdity of the situation.

“That it does, it almost feels unreal, hell I even got a report from the knight's captain that Julian went to the training hall, and exercised.” Jacob said as he shrugged his shoulders and made a surprised expression.

Left speechless for a moment, Amanda regained her composure and spoke with a bedazzled expression, “… the same Julian who refused to learn a martial art at any costs, and spent all his time reading books?”

“Yes him, I found it hard to believe as well, but when the rest of the knights testified the same, I had no choice but to believe it.” Jacob said as he shook his head from side to side.

“Huuuuuh seems like he truly has decided to change.” Amanda said with a tiny smile.

“Uhuh.” Jacob said as he looked out the window into the night sky.

“Anyway dear, what did you talk to the emperor about today? It seemed to be something important as he called you as the minister and not as a friend.” Amanda asked Jacob with a concerned voice.

A frown immediately appeared on his face upon hearing her words, “Huuuh dear it seems like turbulent times are coming, the demons have gathered their army on the borders of the orcs” he said.

Amanda’s expression immediately changed from concerned to shocked as she said, “That means the demons have already prepared for war and will likely make the declaration soon”

With a nod, Jacob started to speak once more, “Yep, and as such we too have started to gather our military strengths so that when the time comes that the demons shift their attack towards us, which they most definitely will, we will be fully prepared to take them on ” he finished speaking as he clenched his fist.

“Haaaah may god be with us” Amanda prayed.

Meanwhile, in Julian’s room, the boy could be seen sitting with his legs crossed in his bed as his mouth moved.

“From the Basis of all, empty and without cause,

sound, the dynamic potential of the Dimension, arises.

From the Awareness, empty and without cause,

light, the dynamic potential of Primordial Wisdom, appears.

From the inseparability, empty and without cause,

rays, the dynamic potential of the Essence, appear.

When sound, light, and rays are taken as instrumental causes

that ignorance turns into the delusion of body, speech, and mind;

Julian had been chanting the technique(?) that he got from the chained man.

While he called it a technique, it was more of a script, and the guy had told him to keep on chanting it until he felt that his body was in pain, and he could no longer focus on the chant.

“Haaah that was exhausting” I said as a small amount of stem came out of my mouth. I had practiced the chant barely for 30-45 minutes and my body felt as if every fiber of it was being torn apart, but it only felt painful, my body didn’t really have any injuries on it.

‘I see that you have done an appropriate amount of chanting, that is good, if you had gone overboard, the consequences for you would have been unimaginable.’ the gold haired person said as I appeared once more in the dark prison.

“Why? What would have happened?” I asked him as I looked up.

‘Your body would go into a temporary coma, and you likely would go into a vegetative state.’ he said.

I started to nod at his words before I began to shout, “I see I see YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT EARLIER uppp” I shut my mouth, as I knew no matter how good the sound proofing of the rooms were, too loud of a shout, and the guards would be alerted.

‘Well it didn't happen so that is a great thing isn't it.’ he said as he bobbed his head from side to side.

“Huuuuh forget it, by the way I don't know what to call you? Calling you ‘you’ doesn't really feel too convenient, and calling you master of something like that feels weird.” I said as is shook my head, knowing that shouting at him was pointless,

‘Fair point… just call me elder.’ he said nonchalantly

“You do know I'm close to 70 years old right” I said as I blinked a couple of times.

‘And I'm hundreds of years old, what is your point?’ he looked at me and said in a puzzled tone.

“Nothing, I’ll just go with elder.” I held my head and agreed to call him elder.

‘Great, then I shall return to my sleep now, talking to you has exhausted quite a bit of my energy, so I likely won’t appear for a while.’ he spoke, but I cut him off before he kicked me out of the room.

“Wait before you kick me out again I have something to ask you.”

‘Huh what is it?’ he asked me in a curious tone.

“Can elder teach me the martial art that you used when you, you know slayed dragons? Or rather when you were not imprisoned here.” I said as I looked at him with starry eyes.

‘I would if I could, but I can't, so I shan't.’ he said as he waved his head

“Does that mean you can not teach me your martial art?” I frowned and said.

With a tiny smile he spoke after he let out a laugh, ‘No. It just means that I never learned any martial arts, I simply depended on my instincts, so I never needed such things. Well with that I bid you good bye for the time being.’

Completely shocked at his words I just sat agape for a moment before I spoke in a small voice. “What the fuck? He killed those beasts without any martial arts? How the fuck kind of talent do you need to have to kill those fuckers with instinct alone… augh I'm having a headache.”

20 minutes had passed since the elder told me how he never used any martial arts and I just sat there holding my head thinking what I would do in order to build my strength right now, “Haaaaah so in the end I can only depend on the knowledge I have gathered. Seems like this time I will be learning the techniques I had avoided due to my pitiful body in my last life. Spear art of the great tyrant” I said as I shook my head remembering how badly I wanted to use the technique despite knowing how to use it.

‘I had found the art in the sealed vault of the great library, so I knew that it would be good, but only after learning it did I understand how amazing the technique was’ I thought to myself

“But there is also a major problem that comes along with learning the art… the ungodly amounts of mana it consumes, while the art itself was ungodly in terms of technique, it consumes an equally ungodly amount of mana. Haah but the manual didn’t really have anyway to gather the mana required to use the technique” I said as I held my head and sighed.

Mid-sigh a thought struck my head, as I wondered why this had never occurred to me, “I wonder… if there was no accompanying mana gathering technique, does that mean it is compatible with any mana gathering technique out there?”

Nodding my head I decided what I would do as a confirmation, “Okay, I'm going to use that then, the secret technique of the now fallen great monk temple. The world’s breath”.

“While the speed to gather the mana from it is slow, it also gathers the purest mana one can harness. And in case it doesn't work, I will just have to learn something else not really much of a choice there I guess.” I said as I shrugged.

“Well now that I have decided what I'm going to use, I should sleep” I said as I yawned and laid on my bed, and five minutes later, Julian laid on the bed snoring.
