Milis

Inside a small apartment room, there are three girls looking at a game console, the two focused on teaching the one in their care.

The black haired girl is looking at the console she held full of interest as the two teaches her how to use it.

"It's my precious S2 so be very careful." Ruri states before continuing. "Oh, and you can slide your fingers to the screen. The screen will move if you do that."

Nodding, the black haired girl obediently slides her fingers on the screen. She looks at it with her eyes lighting up as the home screen of the console moves on the side and shows some game icons.

"I would normally tell you to pick what you want, but seeing that you don't remember anything so I suggest this one to you."

Ruri pointed at an icon of the game that depicts a pixelated person carrying a sword. The amnesiac girl just stares at it blankly.

"Oh. Draconic Knight huh…" Yuki mutters. "If we are talking about a basic RPG, then this one is a must."

"Of course. It is also a retro game, so it is a great starter for those who don't know much about it!" Ruri said.

Yuki looks at her sister with a deadpan stare. "That doesn't make sense you know. Any games with a simple mechanic is just as great a starter as the others."

"Nope. Retro games are still the best ones for me!"

As the two are just speaking whatever in their minds, the black haired girl just tilted her head, looking curiously at the screen. Yuki seems to have noticed it as she turns her attention back to the amnesiac girl.

"What is it?" The black haired beauty glances at her for a bit before turning back to the screen. Seeing it, Yuki quickly understood. "Ah, you just have to poke the screen once. Just put your finger on the screen and it will respond."

The girl nodded before with a resolute gaze, she push the pixelated icon with her finger. The screen turns black for a moment, which made the black haired girl gasps for a bit in worry, before she gasps once more as a retro soundtrack resounded as the screen lits up with the pixelated image of the game, it's title on the front with the option of Start and Load in it.

Not knowing what to do next, she glances at the sisters. Seeing her like that, Ruri quickly help her out.

"Pick the Start button. Just push it with your finger." After the black haired girl did it, she continues. "Then type your name by pushing the letters shown on the box."

The amnesiac girl looks at her with a complicated look, not knowing what to do with it. She just stares at the screen without doing anything. Yuki seems to have noticed as she quickly interjected.

"Right… you have amnesia. We still haven't ask what to refer you as."

She is just staring at the game with a loss expression.

Yuki sighs. "Okay. Why don't you just pick whatever suits your taste. We can also call you using that name."

She turns to the girl, her expression neutral before giving her a resolute nod. Yuki felt a bit awkward seeing her so serious about it.

The girl turns back to the game with an intensity that seems to pierce through it. The way she grip the device makes it looks like she is trying to destroy it.

"Hey! Chill out there, you might snap my console in half!" Ruri panics, and then tries to put her hand behind the girl's back as an act of calming her down.

The amnesiac girl didn't respond but her grip became a bit lax as she stares at the letters. Her gaze is focused like that of a laser pointer as she looks at it contemplatively

Seeing her struggling like that, Yuki said after another sigh. "Don't think too much about it. You can just look for a name that seems to suit you." She said, hoping for the girl to finally do something and not just stare intensely at it.

The girl nodded before she finally raises her finger. Then she pushes some buttons before looking at it once more. The two sisters leaned over to see what she wrote.

"Milis?"

The girl, Milis nodded. "Is this fine?" She asked, her cool and beautiful voice hitting their ears like a soft melody.

Yuki felt a bit awkward hearing her voice that seems to soothe the air itself. She takes a cough before speaking.

"That's a pretty name. We like it."

Milis nodded, a small smile quirking her lips before she turns back to the game. Then she saw the Enter button and pushes it.

A confirmation box occurs, asking her if she is sure about the name. Without the prompt of the two, she seems to have grasps the meaning and picks the Yes button.

"Oh! You seem to be getting the hang of using this!" Ruri felt excited seeing her taking the initiative.

Yuki is also the same. This is the first time they are teaching someone to play games, and seeing the girl who seems to be serious about it, they felt so proud just letting her experience it. It's like having a small child in their family.

The screen changes to a black screen, before words narrating the story slowly slides up. It talks about some sort of Evil Dragon Lord on the other side of the world and the descendant of some great person who is the only one capable of defeating it.

After that narration, the screen lits up, showing a room that seems to indicate a medieval throne room. From the throne sat a king and on the other, the queen. In front of the king is a warrior, presumably the Player, clad in blue armor.

The king talks, a box indicating what he is saying. The king wanted him to set out on a journey and defeat the Dragon Lord. After that, another panel shows telling her that the King gave her some Copper Keys.

And then the game starts. A digital joystick appears on the bottom left corner of the screen while two buttons that indicates A and B were displayed on the bottom right corner of the screen.

"Look here. That circular thingy is the joystick. You hold it with your thumb and move it. It will move along with your thumb. Then those two are the action buttons. The A button is for confirmation and the B button is for cancelling. You can also use the B button to get to the menu."

Milis nodded before pushing the B button. Then a new box above the screen pops up, listing eight options that she can use.

"These options can be used on specific circumstances. I suggest you learn about it yourself." Yuki said.

Milis nodded once more as she navigated the options. Picking the Status option, it shows a large box showing the status of her character. Not knowing what those indicates, she decided to ignore it for now and close it by using the B button. She uses the B button once more to close the menu before trying the joystick.

She is surprised when she saw her character moving. Whenever she moves the joystick, her character goes.

"Amazing…"

The two felt amused seeing her reaction. They can't wait for her to see the battle mechanics of the game.

----------------------------------------

The girl moves around for a bit in game, walking around aimlessly for a few minutes while the two sisters watches, and throw out some advices to her.

"That's a slime. You have to defeat it to acquire EXP."

"Acquiring enough EXP will promote you to another level. As your level rises, your character becomes more stronger. The game's maximum level is just 30 by the way."

"Your damage is too low because you have no weapon yet, why don't you go to the nearest village and buy a Wooden Stick."

"You don't have enough money. There is a Treasure Chest behind the throne of the king. You should take it to get 100 gold."

"Just pick Open and you can open it."

The two are basically backseating after seeing the girl taking several moments to learn about the game. She seems to be having a trouble comprehending what she is supposed to do.

She knows how to move, and how to use the menu. But she is just walking around aimlessly.

"Ah! Don't go too far. Your still too weak for that area…. Oh no, you encountered a Skeleton!"

"Ah. How sad, you've been fatally wounded. Now that's your first death."

The two says in lament as they heard the familiar sound of the player being slain. Then the scene blacks out for a bit before showing it back to the throne room, the warrior clad in blue facing the king in there as the king said something, telling him that he is not fated to die yet so they resuscitate him.

"... Again." Seemingly unwilling, Milis narrowed her eyes as she moves the joystick once more.

She goes to the nearest village to buy a new weapon, though it seems like she didn't have enough money.

"How?"

Yuki sighs tiredly. "You died. You loses half of your money anytime your character dies."

"Then… I just don't have to die then!"

She moves her character once more, this time becoming more careful. She heeds the advice of the sisters and stays near the starting area, looping around and encountering the same weak slimes.

The two felt a bit happy seeing the girl becoming too engrossed at the game. They decided to watch her a bit for now.

----------------------------------------

"Wait… aren't we forgetting something?" Yuki pipes up after Milis is done taking a Holy Tablet from the first dungeon.

"I think it is not that important. Let's just see how she fares against the next area." Ruri dismissed it with a wave of her hand.

Then they glance at Milis whose focus is entirely on the game. She seems to have become better as time passed, calculating damages and optimizing her strategies. The few spells that she learned are being used sparingly as she goes around the map and defeat foes to acquire more EXP and Gold.

"This is amazing. I didn't thought she will get this better just by learning the basics."

"Well. This is the basic RPG. Of course it is easy to learn the tricks." Ruri replies. "Though, I wonder if she can get pass through the puzzles. Will she know what to do when she encountered the Golem guarding Talos. What about the hidden sword on the poisonous marsh?"

"Shush. Those are spoilers. We should let her discover it to herself."

As they are talking to each other, the girl have come to the other bridge and goes straight to the next city that is surrounded by a poisonous marsh. Milis doesn't seem to notice everything as her entire focus is just on the screen, looking at her blue cladded warrior with a strong focus.

----------------------------------------

A few hours later…

The two have gone to their fridge and the eldest, Yuki, is prepping some vegetables and meat. Ruri on the other hand is sitting on the chair, looking at her as she cupped her cheek with her hand, her elbow settled on the table.

"So, what do you think about the girl?" Ruri asked suddenly, causing Yuki to briefly stop, before continuing on her prepping.

"She is like a child." Yuki admitted honestly with a sigh.

"You thought so too huh…" Ruri muttered to herself.

The girl, who they decided to call Milis for now, is a mystery. She have no memory of herself, and she seems to excited at everything she sees, like a child who have seen the outside world for the first time.

Normally, they would have gone to the Administrators for help, but they can't do that. They don't want to tell them that they entered a restricted area, and the Administrator of this Division is very smart. It's impossible to lie to them.

And that Administrator is honestly scary for them, so they won't even dare.

"By the way, what should we do about her ID? It will put her in trouble if she didn't have any Valid ID here." Ruri asked to her sister who was just done chopping the vegetables.

"I'll think about it." Yuki simply replied.

Despite being a stranger, the two have decided to take care of her. They can't bear to leave the girl alone to fend for herself. It would haunt their mind.

The two become silent once more, with Yuki busy at stirring the pot while Ruri is just moving her legs beneath the table like a child.

On their room, Milis is busily taking in enemies from the game, her eyes solely focused on the console, deliberating, hypothesizing, enacting, and then more. Like a machine, her eyes is unblinking, and is glowing for a bit as she gazes on her character, absorbing every knowledge she can get into it.
