Chapter 2 - Im so tired

Chapter 2 - Im so tired

“Pay your bills next time Bill!” An old goblin says as he throws him out. “Fuck you!” Marcus muster before barfing out his insides. After Rodney’s death yesterday, Marcus had been seeking help in order to take revenge, but no one would help him, they just laughed at him and told him to come back when he had the coin.

‘Fools! Did they not know of the danger lurking in the shadows? Greedy fuckers…’ After a couple attempts, Marcus successfully stood up and started wobbling home. ‘I’ll try again tomorrow’ as he was walking home, he heard a sound to his right. Turning towards the sound, he saw a dark alleyway, and standing there, he saw two shadows.

He couldn’t really see much due to his vision being blurry, but as he focused, he finally saw him. “Rodney? No, that’s not possible, I watched you die!” Marcus stumbled towards the shadowy man resembling his friend, but when he finally arrived close enough to see him, he lost the strength in his legs.

It wasn’t his friend. No, standing there, holding a dead goblin girl was something else. Something wearing his friends face. But that was the only part that resembled Rodney. The rest of its body was covered by scales and fur, and its eyes, oh, the eyes. Within them, all he could see was hunger.

Marcus quickly tried to scramble away, turning around, he started stumbling away on all fours, but just as he was about to leave the alleyway, he felt a sudden sharp pain, and lost all balance. Looking behind him, what he saw horrified him. His legs, they had been separated from his body, and standing there, gnawing on one of his legs was the creature wearing his friends face.

“WHY ARE YOU DOI-“ Marcus didn’t get to finish his sentence, as the last word was leaving his mouth, he felt a sudden sharp pain and a loss of control over his body. As his view changed, and the world turned upside down, to his horror, he could see his own body in front of him. ‘What the actual fuck just happened?’ Those were his last thoughts.

“KRRK, TASTY!” the chimera couldn’t help but exclaim. It still had issues talking but was slowly learning by using the memories of Rodney. Looking down at the decapitated head lying on the ground, the chimera recognized the face. It was the face of Rodney’s best friend Marcus.

A wide and creepy grin appeared on the chimera’s face, and after quickly devouring the goblin It had caught earlier, it slowly started to consume Marcus, savoring the flavor and enjoying every second of it.

As its intelligence had increased, so had its palate. Before, it had just devoured in order to get stronger and satisfy its urges, but now, it enjoyed its meals. Hearing the flesh tearing off its prey and seeing the fear in their eyes, it just made the meals so much better.

After it finished devouring Marcus, the chimera started looking for more victims prey.

As it jumped around avoiding the detection of guards, it finally found another prey. While perched on top of a building, the chimera used its superior vision to stare into a window in the building across from where it was sitting. There, it saw a young goblin girl sleeping in her bed, her peaceful face made the chimera want to devour her whole.

It quickly climbed down the building and snuck across the street. Arriving at the front door, it tried opening it, but to no avail, the door was locked. So, it climbed the building and snuck in through the chimney. It was a tight fit, but after struggling for a good two minutes, it finally entered the building.

As the chimera looked around, it knew that the room it was in was called a Living room, and to its relief, it seemed like none of the residents had picked up on the sounds it had made while crawling down the chimney.

The chimera slowly walked up the stairs to the second floor. As it arrived, it saw three doors, one on the left, and two on the right. Slowly entering the door on the right closest to it, it saw two old goblins sleeping on a bed. One female, and one male. Presumably the parents of the young girl it had seen.

The chimera slowly snuck towards the bed and quickly slashed the throat of the male goblin. His eyes opened, revealing confusion, however, as his gaze landed on the chimera, the confusion quickly changed into terror. The goblin started gurgling and trying to stop the bleeding, but his life slowly faded until he was no more.

“Honey?” The female goblin said in a tired voice. Due to all the shaking caused by the male goblin trying to stay alive, the female goblin had woken up. As she looked towards her husband and saw all the blood, a terrifying realization hit her. Soon, her gaze landed upon the grinning Chimera, and she instantly fell unconscious. Confused, the chimera walked up to the goblin and stabbed her with its claws, she woke up, but this time she screamed in pain. Annoyed, the chimera quickly cut her head off and started munching on their bodies.

As it was in the middle of its feast, the chimera heard the door creak and an innocent voice sounding out. “Mom? Dad?” As its gaze landed upon the door, its eyes met the eyes of the confused little girl. “W-wha?” As the child spoke, the chimera pounced across the room, landing on top of her. “AHHHH HELP!” She screamed in pain, and it was music to its ears. But it knew it couldn’t let her make sounds, as it would draw the attention of others, so it quickly killed her and devoured her.

After slaughtering the family and devouring them, it left the room and started looking through the house, looking for anything interesting. But after only finding goblin clothes and currency, it quickly left and ran back into the nearby forests.

Looking at the bloody mess in the room, Bob couldn’t help but sigh. This was either the result of a serial killer or something even worse. Either way, it would affect the morale of the town, meaning he had to catch whoever or whatever had caused this mess. After leaving the house, Bob walked back to his office and was just about to start the most boring and peaceful part of his job, doing paperwork, a red-haired female goblin slammed open his office door, scaring the ever-living shit out of him. “Miranda what the hell are you doi-“ Before he could finish his sentence, he met her eyes, they were full of anger and sadness. Upon further observation, she was even trembling. Whether the trembling came from anger or sadness, he did not know.

“Lay it on me.”

As the chimera awoke, it felt refreshed, standing up on two legs, it walked out of its burrow and observed the outside.

It was raining, and it could hear thunder striking every now and then. With the rain, scents would be weaker, and it would be significantly more difficult to locate prey, as would noticing any ambushes. The Chimera thought for but a second before it decided that it didn’t matter that the rain significantly weakened its sense of smell, it had its eyes after all.

Walking out into the rain, it could feel the cold rain and it felt refreshed, it was time for another hunt.

With the storm becoming even more intense, most residents stayed indoors, only a rare few stayed outside, enjoying the storm. Jacob was one of those few, he had always loved the rain. Rain had always calmed him, made him stop thinking about the world, and made him feel at peace.

Sitting next to a small tree that was located close to the wall surrounding the city, Jacob couldn’t help but smile, closing his eyes, he started to think of the many events that had unfolded as of recent.

Some serial killer had slaughtered a family, and two of his close friends. He should’ve felt sad, but at the moment, all he could feel was the cold rain and a sense of calm.

Jacob fell even deeper into his mind, and as he did, the rain around him slowed to a crawl. Opening his eyes, he observed as the rain moved at a snails pace. It wasn’t as if time was moving slower. No, he was simply thinking at such a quick speed.

After having gained the skill: Omni-Mind due to some unique circumstances and, he had, in his opinion, basically evolved into a higher being.

But due to his body being a goblin, his mind was limited, and he could only use the power for twelve seconds, any longer, and his brain would literally explode.

The Omni-Mind skill had increased his intelligence and changed how he perceives time. If he willed it, he could experience time 1000 times slower than he normally would, resulting in a second being a thousand times longer.

But going anywhere above that would, to his estimations, strain him so much that his brain would short-circuit, resulting in him becoming braindead.

The skill was only level one, and it was already this good.

Deactivating his skill, Jacob stood up and started to leave the tree. When he was about 40 meters away from the tree, he suddenly felt a shiver down his spine. Turning around, he stared towards the tree, and he immediately regretted doing so.

Standing where he had just been a couple seconds ago, was something that looked like a mix between goblin and beast. It was hunched over, but even so, it reached well over two meters.

Jacob froze, but after quickly activating his skill, time froze. While he couldn’t move while in this state, if he could somehow come up with a way to escape, he wouldn’t have to die today.

Observing the creature, he slowly started to realize what kind of creature this was. Based of how it looked, it must have devoured a minimum of two goblins… ‘So that’s the thing responsible for the deaths of so many.’

‘So how do I escape? Can I even escape?’ Thousands of thoughts ran through his brain, and as the realization that he couldn’t never escape the creature hit him, despair filled him. He stood there, as the minutes passed in his head, the creature slowly started to move.

Inch by inch, it slowly came closer, and after two hours, (8 seconds in the real world) it finally stood five meters away from him. Jacob knew that death was getting closer, and in his despair, he increased the strain on his skill, making it level up twice, becoming level three. Time was now moving so slow that one second in the real world was a whole 27 hours in his mind.

But he didn’t stop there. He kept pushing the skill to its limits, and it eventually leveled up once more, Making one second equivalent to 6 days in the real world. As the hours passed, he couldn’t help but reminisce.

Anger filled him. Why did this creature have to appear now? Why did it have to kill his friends?

He was furious, but after two days that fury faded, and hopelessness filled him.

When the Chimera was two meters away, his skill leveled up, but he kept pushing, and it leveled up, and it kept leveling up, and when he was at level nine, he stopped pushing.

One second in the real world was now eleven years. By his estimation, he had a good two seconds left before he was dead, which totaled to almost 23 years in his head.

..

As the years passed, he developed a skill.

Skill: Thoument Lv: 1.

Description: Allows the user to build a world within their brain. It also gives the user the ability to train and become more efficient with skills. However, absorbing energy is impossible.

Sipping on coffee, Jacob couldn’t help but laugh. During the past twenty-one years, he had trained so much that, if it weren’t for the creature in front of him, he could have probably become a god.

“Even with all my years of training, even becoming someone unbeatable when it comes to techniques, I am powerless in front of the beast… WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!” Jacob couldn’t help but cry and despair once more. He had done his very best, but it was as if his fate was set in stone.

As if some god was toying with him. ‘What have I done to deserve this? WHY?!’

Jacob despaired for a month straight. He didn’t train, he just lied in his bed, he cried until there were no tears, he hyperventilated until he passed out. This continued until he finally snapped. He was going to level up Omni-Mind.

Readying himself, he started using Omni-Mind to its full extent, going even further beyond. He pushed and pushed. Even as pain invaded his mind and his body started to fade. He pushed on.

His mental world collapsed in on itself, and in its wake, a black hole the size of a pea appeared. But he pushed on.

Skill Omni-Mind Lv: 9 Has become à Omni-Mind Lv: 10.

As the notification appeared, his mind got cleared from a fog he didn’t even know was there and his mind grew. And grew it did. Only after a good ten minutes did the growing stop. Checking his status menu, Jacob couldn’t help but be shocked. His intelligence stat had reached an astounding 255!

Jacob couldn’t help but sigh in relief. He could feel it now, his mind was no longer being strained, and if he wanted to, he could make this world last for another 100 years.

He knew that no matter how much he pushed after those one hundred years, he would never be able to level the skill past level ten. But he was happy being able to live for another hundred years, it would allow him to have his revenge.

..

Having learned all the physical weapon techniques known to Goblinoids, Jacob realized that training any physical attacks was useless, both because it didn’t actually affect his real body, and even if he was the god of combat, he was willing to bet that he would still lose within a second due to his body being so scrawny.

Jacob realized how dumb he had been. He shouldn’t have focused on a way to physically attack the Chimera, rather, he should have trained a way to mentally attack it. He was going to invent a mental attack, one that targeted not just its brain, but its very soul.

During the first ten years, Jacob came up with hundreds of thousands of theories on how to make a mental attack, and as he practiced, he gained tens of skills, but none were good enough. Nevertheless, he still leveled them all up while he theorized.

Turns out, after reaching 255 in the intelligence stat, and Omni-Mind Reaching level 10, he gained the ability to split his mind. This resulted in another him appearing in his mental space. This gave him an idea, and that was to split himself as many times as possible.

The end result was 9 Jacobs standing in front of him, and if he included himself, he could have ten splits of himself at the same time. Going any further was simply impossible. During the splitting, his tens of skills combined into a skill called Ovemind. The skill allowed all his minds to work more efficiently.

The years came and went. It was only after forty years that he achieved a breakthrough.

Skill: Turage Lv: MAX.

Description: Even in death your rage seeks revenge. Upon death, your soul will invade and devour the soul of your killer. If the designated target’s soul resists the attempts of being devoured, your soul will self-destruct, dealing true damage.

Requirements for activation: Target must have killed you. You must hate your Target. If target is 50 levels higher than yours, skill will fail to activate. Target must have a soul.

Sure, the skill would require him to die in order to work and might even require him to explode his very soul. But it would work, and that was all that mattered to Jacob. “Status”
