I hunt, I absorb, I utilize, I sleep, repeat. This has been my life for as long as I can remember. I am not too sure when I started existing, nor what my purpose is, but I do not care.
I carefully observe the prey in front of me, and while I do so, something I do not understand pops up.

I don’t understand what it wants, but I’m used to it now, I carefully ready myself, careful not to make any sounds or sudden movement, and then I leap forwards. Using my sharp teeth, I bite down on the creatures back.
It squirms around, but I keep biting and slashing with my claws. In the end, it stops struggling and I claim yet another victory.

I again ignore the blue thing and devour my prey, quickly and efficiently. After I finish devouring it I find my way back to my burrow and rest in order to absorb the creature’s powers. The process of absorbing the knowledge and powers of my prey does not hurt, no, its more of a comfort, it fills me with ecstasy!
Looking down at my hindlegs I can see that they have taken some characteristics from my prey, making it easier to leap towards my prey. This fills me with excitement for another hunt. After leaving my burrow I started looking for similar prey to what I had just eaten, they were quite tasty.
After locating the lake, I quickly hid inside one of the shrubs and waited. Prey always went here to drink the water, leaving them vulnerable to my sneak attacks. It was a weakness that was good to exploit.
After an hour of waiting, prey finally arrived, this time it was something I had never seen before, it had a long slender body and a long tail. It was black with some red spots on its body. Just observing it made my mouth water.

Again, the thing appeared in my vision, but I ignored it as usual. After observing the creature drink water from the lake, I quickly used the ability that I had gained from my previous prey and shifted colors.
My skin went from its usual black grey to a green similar to the brushes I was in. I slowly but surely got closer and closer to my prey and when I was within sufficient distance, I leaped towards it. As my fangs made contact with its neck, the prey panicked and started thrashing around.
But that was not all, even as I was scratching it with my claws and biting through its neck, the injuries were healing. Some of the deep scratches I made in its skin were disappearing, leaving healthy flesh in its wake.
Hastening my attacks, I finally grabbed its throat with my fangs and ripped through it. Blood started gushing out, blinding me, but I didn’t stop and just kept biting and ripping until the creature stopped moving.

Opening my eyes, I was met by the thing again, but I ignored it. Looking around my burrow, I noticed that it was smaller for some unknown reason, so I quickly made it bigger and then left. It was time to hunt once more.
I once again arrived at my usual hunting spot, but the shrubs felt much smaller, and I could barely fit within them any longer. So, I changed location to some bigger shrubs and waited. As my usual prey arrived, rather than excitement, confusion filled me. How come they were so small? The jumpy creature was no longer my size, instead, it was barely the size of my head.
But no matter, I quickly readied myself, and pounced. As I came closer and bit down on it, I devoured the creature in one bite. Even after devouring something that would normally fill me, I felt hunger, so I hunted more, and more, but even after eating five of this prey, my hunger lingered.
So, I started going for another creature that I had never eaten before. It had white fur covering its body, red eyes, and long ears. All in all, it looked tasty.

As the weird thing popped up in my vision once again, I suddenly felt much lighter than usual, curious, I decided to test out what had changed, So I started running. The increase was insane, so insane in fact, that I hit a tree and broke my legs. As pain filled me, the thing kept appearing again.

Confusion filled me, how did I become more durable all of a sudden? ‘Eh, no reason to keep thinking about it. I have prey to catch!’ After standing up and observing my surroundings, I sniffed after the scent of my prey and after a couple seconds, I finally catch the direction it had gone, so I follow.
It is dark, but I finally found the prey, it is hiding in its burrow, but I know where it is, for I have smelled it, I am so smart!
I change colors, making myself as dark as possible while sneaking into the burrow.

As usual, the thing appears at the worst moment, slightly startling me. But I keep up my slow pace while sneaking into the burrow. After a while, I finally see my prey, it is surrounded by its spawn, I see twelve young ones and another adult. The thought of such a feast makes my mouth drool, and I cant control myself.
I pounce towards the adult closest to me and bite down into its throat. It barely struggles before losing its life, but in the process of killing it, I wake the others. The younglings run around in circles, unsure of what to do, while the adult kicks at me, trying to do damage.

As the thing appeared once more, I suddenly felt, well, smarter. I suddenly started being able to think more smoothly, and more rationally. I now understood what the blue boxes were. It was my status, and it was telling me my levels and progress.
I suddenly felt the urge to increase my intelligence even more. It seems that I had instinctively put my free attribute points into the intelligence stat when I was frustrated, resulting in my mind expanding and my intelligence level increasing.
Looking at all my skills and abilities, I was quite happy with it. “ROAR!!” I couldn’t help but roar at the sudden and familiar pain that appeared out of nowhere.

Opening my eyes, I could feel myself being squeezed by the small burrow I was inside, so I made my way out of it and looked down at my body. The change had increased my size by a good amount. If I had to guess, I was probably triple the size I was before, opening my status I inspected the changes.

This change had increased my base stats by 10, not including intelligence. That is quite the increase, I had become much stronger and much bigger.
I’m not too sure if my size correlates to strength, or if its just a by-product. Either way, it was time to hunt once more and become even stronger. The only unfortunate thing was that my intelligence stat did not go up.
Raising my nose, I started sniffing. Hmm, I can smell the small creatures from earlier, I think they were called rabbits… So, I quickly start sprinting as quickly as I can towards where I can sense the scent.
I soon arrive at the rabbit, but just as I am about to pounce upon it, I stop. What’s better than one rabbit? More rabbits of course! I quickly hide and as I do, my hide changes colors and I soon blend into the environment.
The rabbit, not knowing that a dangerous creature is stalking it, simply hops around while snacking away at something orange. As the sky turns orange, the rabbit finally leaves the area, slowly marching to its burrow, not knowing that it was bringing death upon its whole family.
I stalk the rabbit as it enters its burrow, and after a while, I walk towards the burrow, but to my dismay, I am too big. Even when I do my best by squeezing myself into the burrow, I just can’t fit. Now that I think about it, the rabbit was quite small in comparison to me. Ah, right, how could I forget, I became much larger!
Instead of giving up however, I start digging, slowly but surely making my way through the burrow by making it just big enough for me to fit through. After digging for a while, I finally see the rabbit and its family of 7. A ferocious grin spreads across my face.
Due to all the sound, I was making by digging, the rabbits were all awake, and I could sense the fear oozing out of the rabbits. Making my grin even bigger. The fight goes even quicker than before and within seconds, all of the rabbits are dead, and I start devouring.
The box says that my Leap ability increased by one point and that my level increased by one, so I quickly put the attribute points into intelligence, and as I do so, I notice a small increase in my ability to think, it simply becomes a little easier, making my ability to process information a little smoother.
As I exit the burrow, I look at the sky that is now dark but full of many small lights and three big lights. I debate on whether or not I should hunt, or if I should rest. But I quickly decide upon the former. Unlike most creatures in this forest, I don’t have a need for sleep. The only reasons I have slept so far is in order to absorb and utilize the creatures I had devoured. But due to the fact that I still felt hungry and that I basically got nothing to absorb from the rabbits, I felt it was better to start hunting once more.
I decide on a random direction and start half-running-half-walking through the forest looking for prey. The forest is quiet and devoid of any sound except for the rustling of leaves as the calm wind blows. It feels tranquil and I feel at ease.
It’s a feeling I had never had before. In my early days of existing, all I could think of was to hunt and devour anything and everything I could see, it was as if something primal and ruthless was controlling me. But now, I am experiencing something new, and while I do still feel the urge to devour new things, I don’t feel as if I am being controlled by my urges-
My thoughts are broken as I suddenly feel a sharp pain on my behind. Rage fills me and as I turn around, I meet the gaze of what I can only describe as hideous. It is a term I had never used before, but I just feel an uncontrollable urge to devour the hideous green creature.

“Hey Rodney, its time for practice!” Hearing his mother yell at him, Rodney groggily got out of bed and put on some clothes and left his room. When he arrived in the kitchen, his mother gave him a warm smile “You should eat some food before going.” While giving her a hug, Rodney couldn’t help but smile ‘Ah, what a lovely mother I have’ After eating breakfast and saying goodbye to his mother, he grabbed his trusty spear, one of which he had been given by his father. He forms a sad smile ‘If only you and brother had survived…’
‘No, I shouldn’t fret of things in the past. I still have my mother, that’s all that matters.’ Quickly regaining his calm, Rodney left the house and walked towards the town center. He knew that his best friend would probably be late as usual, but it didn’t hurt to be there early.
After arriving, Rodney sat down close to the fountain located in the center of town. The story of it was quite an interesting one in his opinion. Apparently, a fight between strong humans had been held here. When they fought using spells and incantation, had blown up the surrounding areas, including where the spring was currently located, and incidentally one of the explosions had made water shoot out of the ground.
After the fight was over, and they had left, the goblins that were hiding close by had decided to build the town as close as possible to the water source as the water seemed infinite. No matter how much the goblins drank, the water never stopped flowing. So, they simply built around it, making it into a fountain and then expanding the town. As more and more goblins moved here and started breeding, the town turned into a proper one, resulting in what they had today.
…
It took his friend a while, but eventually he showed up. “Hey Marcus, what took you so long?” Rodney couldn’t help but ask, he was curious after all. “Just my mother being overly protective, you know, the usual.” Rodney couldn’t help but sigh “Yeah I feel you man.” After taking a small pause, he continued, “So, shall we head out?” Marcus answered with a nod, and they quickly departed.
As they walked through the forest, Rodney couldn’t help but feel a chill run down his spine. “We are much deeper in the forest than usual; I think we should turn back” Rodney couldn’t help but say in a hushed voice. But all he received in response was a laughing Marcus “Haha, how come you’re such a wimp? Don’t worry, we aren’t too deep and we haven’t hunted anything yet, so-“Before he could finish his sentence, he suddenly became quiet.
Rodney, feeling confused, turned around and was just about to ask why he stopped mid-sentence, but Marcus had quickly put his hand on his mouth, blocking him from speaking. He made the hand signs signifying that a predator was close by. After removing his hand off Rodney’s face, he climbed a tree and Rodney hid behind the tree next to him.
Holding his breath, Rodney snuck a peak towards the location that Marcus had signaled it coming from, and what he saw confused him. There, walking on four legs, was a creature he had never seen before. Its body was covered with both fur and scales. It was as if someone had merged two or more different creatures together and this was the result.
‘An undiscovered species?’ Using the system, Rodney inspected its status.

‘A chimera huh? Its materials would sell for quite a lot’ Rodney couldn’t help wanting to kill it. The amount of money he could get would be enough for a good set of new armor. His greed won over his rationality, and he decided to kill it. He quickly activated his sneak skill and stayed as still as possible while waiting for the chimera to pass by the tree he was hiding behind.
When the chimera finally walked past the tree he was hiding behind, he stabbed his spear towards its back. There was a small amount of resistance, but after using more force, it eventually pierced its hide. However, the wound was not deep enough, and the chimera turned around, meeting his gaze, and he immediately regretted his decision.
As he is frozen in fear, he knew he had to move, but his body refused to listen to him. Just as the dreadful chimera was about to end his existence, an arrow struck its back. The chimera roared, and while it turned around, he quickly activated his sneak skill and slipped away.
Marcus had saved him, but Rodney felt pathetic. Had it not been for Marcus, Rodney would have died. He was angry that he had frozen up in fear from simply meeting the gaze of the chimera.
Rodney quickly moves around the chimera and stabs at its back once again. The chimera turns around and lets out a roar of pain. Its gaze meets Rodney, but he doesn’t stand down, and quickly raises his spear towards the chimera.
His spear pierces through the chimera’s torso, but to his horror, the chimera doesn’t stop moving, and even when Marcus shoots an arrow through its left eye, leaving through the back of its head, it still advances and bites into Rodney’s neck.
Rodney couldn’t help but be flabbergasted, ‘what kind of creature can survive having an arrow pierce through its brain?’ as its fangs pierces through his neck and it chews, Rodney is struck by a pain so intense that he almost loses consciousness, but he doesn’t give up and starts fighting back.
But even when he twists his spear inside the chimera, it doesn’t stop chewing on his neck. Rodney could feel his life leaving him, despair and a regret fills him, Rodney’s last thoughts are of his mother…
-
Marcus stares at the chimera that is eating his best friend and rage fills him, but he knows that he doesn’t stand a chance, so after taking one last glance at his dead friend, he leaves to get help from the town.
...
As the memories flooded into my brain, I could feel Rodney’s personality trying to take over. Our consciousnesses and memories clash, our memories merge and splinter. But I eventually win our clash and Rodney is fully consumed by me, well, more like merged. He has become a small part of me.

Quickly remembering that Rodney came from a town with more goblins, I look through my- his memories and after a while I finally find the location. The town is approximately 20km east from my location.
Ready to set out, I open my eyes and attempt to stand up, but I quickly fall on my face. Confused, I look down at my body, and what I see confuses me, I now have two hands, five fingers each and sharp claws at the end of them.
My legs are similar, I have two feet with five toes with claws at the end of them on each toe. My body has changed into that of a goblin, or more accurately, I have only taken the bipedal characteristics. My skin is still covered by fur and scales.
Putting my finger in my mouth I confirm that I have indeed taken the characteristics of the goblins, the only difference being that my teeth are as sharp as ever. I once again attempt to stand up, but I fail miserably. Even though I have taken the characteristics of a goblin and the memories of Rodney, I didn’t get the perks of knowing how to use a bipedal body.
…
It took him hours, but eventually after many tries, the chimera gave up and just decided to crawl on all fours like he did before evolving. On that note, the chimera checked its stats.

After having a better understanding of the stats, my decision to put everything into intelligence from now on is even more cemented. After dumping my 25 points into intelligence, I immediately feel a difference, my mind clears up and I feel the effects of Rodney’s personality dissipate into nothing.
After arriving at where I had killed Rodney, I discover his spear, and pick it up. The body of the spear is made out of black wood, and the tip of the spear is made out of steel. All in all, it’s a good weapon.
The plan for today was to hunt goblins. According to Rodney’s memories, there were well over ten thousand goblins residing in the town, so rushing into the town would be suicide, so the hunting strategy was to pick off goblins when they left town to either hunt or gather herbs.
Picking them off one by one would be easy and would basically not cause any risk of me dying.
…
It took me two hours to arrive outside the town due to me hunting and eating all the rabbits I could find on the way. They were quite the treat after all.
I was currently hiding within shrubs, stalking the entrance to the town as goblins were entering and exiting. I could see goblins of many ages, some were warriors, some were mages, but most of them looked harmless.
When the sun sets, and night arrives, that’s when I’ll strike!
