Chapter 49: Disowned

Chapter 49: Disowned

When Cayden opened the door, they were surprised to find their residence in good condition, and furnished, with multiple rooms.

Of course if it was any citizen of this city, this was only to be expected from Madame Potpourri's Rental Houses, but to the former slaves and someone who was constantly broke, living in the closest thing to a shack, this was a surprise.

Kara flew out of the cloak, and landed on a counter in the kitchen, the other three followed her, and began to explore their house.

...

On the other side of the kingdom, Aaron paced back and forth in his room at the holy knight headquarters.

It's been three days since his talk with the king and the headmaster. In the end he didn't have a say whether he took care of Lenore or not.

So far he was banned from leaving the holy knight headquarters for the time being, which frankly annoyed him immensely.

But now he couldn't stand it, even if he can't leave the headquarters, then he'll at least leave his room.

The main room of the headquarters was busy, most of the holy knights have been recalled. But amidst this bustling atmosphere, there was one man who wasn't feeling the mood.

Sitting on a couch, sat Ash, in his hands a letter. Nobody in the room stood near him, the bloodlust around him was palpable, but he was unsure who to direct it at, he just knew he wanted someone to die.

"Sir Ash, you alright?" A voice asked him from behind, when he turned to look, he saw it was Aaron. But he didn't feel like showing much courtesy, so he merely shrugged his shoulders.

Aaron didn't take that to heart, nor did he even consider it rude, he sat across from Ash, he could see the dried up tears on his face, "I heard the Ayuna's are a mess right now."

Ash only gave a half-laugh, "They're more than a mess, but it's not my problem anymore."

Tilting his head, Aaron asked, "What do you mean?"

But Ash only handed him the letter in his hands, and he took out a black, round stone with a green eye on one side; he tossed it to him.

Aaron caught it while reading the letter, by the end of it, he was frowning heavily, then he grabbed the stone and infused magic inside.

His vision blurred and another scene came into view, it was taken from the air. A young man, around 15, who looked quite similar to Ash, was quickly making his way to the stones location.

But it was obvious, he wasn't running towards the stone, but the woman under it, who seemed too weak to move at the moment.

Aaron could already tell this young man was dying, the lack of light elements, and the abundant dark elements around him clearly indicated that.

But it looked like the young man knew that, his blood shot eyes, and the resolve on his face, spoke many things.

When he came close to the woman, all the stars in his magic expanse collapsed, and the power inside them erupted, this explosion was enough to end the lives of the woman and young man.

This power was enough to also destroy the original stone recording this scene, ending the vision.

"The Ayuna's didn't deserve you nor your brother." Aaron told him, kind of unsure what else to say in this situation, or at least give any good advice.

"What should I do? My brother was the last remaining family member I had, except for my father, but he disowned me, so forget him." Ash muttered.

Aaron thought for a while, but he shook his head, "All I have to offer is bad advice, so I think you better ask Aster or something."

"The king, are you trying to screw me over? I mean, I can't just waltz up to the king and say, 'oh hi there, I'm a holy knight, and I just lost my brother, I know you have experience with loss, so I was wondering if you can give me advice on how to deal with it.'" Ash shook his head, "That would be suicide."

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

"At least you still have some humor." Aaron said, giving back the letter and stone.

"Aaron, do you know when we would be able to leave this place, I'm just about ready to go." Ash said, his bloodlust suddenly intensifying.

"You got somewhere to be?" Aaron asked, his eyes narrowing.

Ash shook his head, "There's just a certain person I have to visit. It's very important."

Shaking his head, Aaron sighed, "You shouldn't try getting reven..." He stopped himself, if he finished that sentence, he would've been the biggest hypocrite, so he added a word to it, "You shouldn't try getting revenge yet."

"Don't worry, I'm not stupid. I don't plan on going to the Ayuna's or the Gemma's yet, I just want the whole story."

Aaron raised an eyebrow, but didn't question it. However, he didn't feel comfortable leaving Ash here alone, he was destined to get in trouble in this state.

"Ash, in a few hours I'm going to leave this place with Lenore, I want you to come with us."

Tilting his head, Ash gave Aaron a weird look. This was way out of character with what he built Aaron to be in his head, "Is there a reason you want me to go with you?"

"I just think extra company would be a little nice, besides I also think it would help you get stronger faster, I am planning on taking Lenore to the most dangerous places in the kingdom."

Ash frowned, "Like the Chaotic Air Forest, or the sea, places like that?"

Nodding, Aaron said, "Well, I don't know about the sea, but places like the Chaotic Air Forest, absolutely."

Putting an elbow on his leg, and his hands supporting his chin, Ash got lost in thought, every so often he would nod his head; Aaron didn't interrupt.

After a few minutes, Ash finally looked up. While he was unsure, he said, "Fine, I'll go with you, but eventually I do want to go to Klavor."

"That's fine, but for now sit tight, we still have some time before the rest of the holy knights arrive."

An hour passed and most of the holy knights arrived, at this time Mrya arrived, and next to her was Aster. Lenore was behind them, but she stealthily left their side. Of course, the two soul forming experts felt her leave, but they didn't stop her.

Aaron also saw her leave. When she left them her eyes scanned the room until she spotted him, then she walked towards him.

"Uncle Aaron, I heard you were going to train me." Lenore said.

Her words caused a sigh to come out of him, "It's not like I had a choice."

...

After exploring the rest of their residence, the three boys were in a childish mood, something like this was simply unbelievable to them.

Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen, none of them ever had all of these things at the same time. Even in the setts or the tree, the places the two demi-humans lived in before the Ayuna's, held all these things.

And for Cronix, he basically lived in a shack in Alktarsha before going to the Ayuna's.

The crow watched them with an unknown expression in her eyes.

"It's a couch, I always wanted a couch." Cronix muttered, he was actually hugging the couch when he said this.

But Cayden felt something different about this place that amazed him, "Cronix, do you feel it?"

Cronix tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at him, but his eyes widened a few moments later, "The elements are actually stronger here!" His voice was filled with wonder, "You know what, this makes me want to practice my water magic, well, see you later guys."

Cronix wanted to rush out of here, but Cayden stopped him by grabbing the collar of his clothes, "You're not going anywhere until we make a plan, we can't depend on your dark magic to hide us."

Shaking his head, Cronix said, "I don't know what you're talking about, it worked before at the Ayuna's, It'll work here."

"Don't be stupid, there's going to be Core Creations here, without Kara's strength, your dark elements' would hide nothing." Cayden refuted.

"Yeah, you're right, but don't worry, I'm going to find a way, you can relax." Cronix said, although even he didn't know what to do.

"Why don't you use the same formation that's on your cloak?" Lapsa asked.

Cronix's eyes lit up, "You're right, although the full formation is too complex for me to make, I could make a downgraded version of it, like what they do with magic bags."

Cayden felt a little relieved that they now had an actual idea on what they were going to do, but then Cronix started mumbling, and his relief began to shrink.

"But the formation itself is pretty complex, if I can't make it perfect, then it might fail completely, but what if I enhance it with materials, we still have a little bit of the Star Core beast's blood, but what if that isn't enough? I need actual equipment."

With a sigh, Cayden suggested Cronix go to the market in the morning to find whatever he might need, which he agreed to.

After all of the excitement wore off, they finally realized how tired they were, so they all departed to their own bedrooms.

Lapsa and Cayden somehow came to an agreement behind Cronix's back, and gave him the master bedroom, with the crow roommating with him.

But Cronix couldn't sleep, his eyes were open, but there was something different about his eyes. Since he couldn't see his own reflection at the moment, he couldn't see the difference, but Kara could.

It wasn't as apparent earlier since she wasn't paying attention to it, but now when there was no light, she could tell as clear as day.

Cronix's eyes got brighter, it shoned in the darkness, like a very small flame. But there was no heat in Cronix's eyes, only coldness.

While this didn't exactly send shivers down her spine, it gave her a bizarre feeling, like Cronix wasn't the only entity inside his body.
