Chapter 25: Mayhem

Chapter 25: Mayhem

Every resident of the Ayuna family manor above the Caster stage left the residence to head to the main house, but this didn't just include members of the Ayuna family, but the guards and staff, so the only people left were the ones in the Caster stage.

Cronix looked at Cayden, "You said you would tell us what Riley told you after everyone left."

"Young master Riley." Lapsa corrected.

Cronix glanced at Lapsa, "Yeah, whatever."

The group of three were walking around the house, working on decorating everything they could.

"Okay, but you guys better not panic," Cayden looked around to make sure no one was listening in, "There's a death list for demi-humans to be killed after the party, and we're on it."

"You gotta be kidding me." Cronix muttered, while Lapsa only sighed.

"Well, we expected this, but it does suck. Here, hang this up there." Cayden said, handing Lapsa a ceiling decoration.

Lapsa took it and used the wind elements to hook them to the roof.

"Anyways, so I was thinking, we use that thing you said in the store, where if you master a specific formation you would be able to escape?"

Cronix shook his head, while he hung up a decoration on the wall, "Do you mean the teleportation array? Yeah, there's no chance I would be able to get it working in three weeks."

"Why not?" Cayden asked with a frown.

"The teleportation array isn't an easy formation, I worked on it for months, and only made it to the 36th lines. Do you know how many lines are in the teleportation array? 50!" Cronix was getting worked up just talking about the teleportation array.

"Give me the next one." Lapsa said, asking for the next decoration, when Cayden handed him it, he turned to Cronix, "Right now this teleportation array is the best chance we have at escaping, and actually living, so even if it's a slim chance, it's better than nothing, right?."

Cronix sighed, what Lapsa said made sense, "Okay, fine I'll try it, but we have zero chance of it working, if I don't have my formation book."

"Do you know where it is?" Cayden asked, handing Lapsa another decoration to hang up.

Cronix shook his head, "It's in my magic bag, but that was gone when I woke up."

"It's probably in young master Topaz's room." Lapsa said.

"How the heck are we going to get it from there?" Cronix sighed again, and muttered, "There goes our only hope."

Cayden shook his head, "I guess I could try to find a way in, but it might take a while."

Cronix nodded, but Lapsa interrupted, "Cayden, you are too noticeable, and now there's always a guard nearby watching for you, especially after what happened yesterday."

Lapsa then nudged his head to a location behind them, where a flawless five star Caster was watching them,"So I'm going to be the one breaking in."

Cayden raised an eyebrow, "Really, do you know how dangerous this is going to be? You'll die if you're caught."

"So what!? I'll die if we aren't able to create the formation, and the same thing can be said for you. Like I said, you're being watched every moment, how would you be able to get past the formation on the door that way."

Lapsa's words didn't ease Cayden in the slightest and he quickly countered, "Then explain it to me, how would you get past the formation!?"

"The windows. You've been here for seven years, yet you've been recklessly pushing through everything, not even trying to form any type of plan, that you missed something so useful!" Lapsa's words cut into Cayden.

The three were silent after this, but Cronix broke it, "Lapsa, when you get into Topaz's room, could you check if there's a bird, it looks like a crow, but it has a silver color scheme."

Lapsa nodded. Cayden sighed, "FIne, you could go Lapsa, but you'll have to reach the third star first."

"I guess that's fair." The two agreed on something, and they continued hanging the decorations.

Cayden stopped walking for a while, and the two others continued without him, when he came back he had something in his hand.

"Here absorb this." Cayden handed Lapsa a magic crystal.

Lapsa was stunned, he stared at the crystal in his hand and said, "What the heck! You want me to do this now!?"

Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

Cayden already started creating another crystal, "Of course, we don't have unlimited time, we need to get this done today, besides you're already almost in the third star, this shouldn't take long."

...

(Nightfall)

"We're going to need a big distraction if you're going to be entering by the window." Cayden suddenly said, when they were in their room, his breathing was heavy and he felt faint from creating magic crystals all day.

Lapsa was in the middle of absorbing the magic elements to form his third star when he frowned, "Do you have anything in mind."

Cayden didn't answer him, but looked at Cronix, who was playing with his pendant, "Cronix, are you ready to speed up our deaths?"

Cronix glanced at Cayden and sighed, but after a few seconds he smiled, "Why not?"

"What are you planning?" Lapsa asked Cayden, now even more confused.

"Anything and everything." Cayden answered with a mischievous grin.

An hour passed, and a faint aura suddenly came out of Lapsa, "I did it, I'm now a three star Caster!"

Cronix was messing with pieces of his old shirt after he destroyed it for some purpose. Cayden smiled, "It's time to go then."

"Now?! Shouldn't we wait a bit, like tomorrow or something?" Lapsa asked with a stressful tone.

"Sorry Lapsa, but we don't have the luxury of time... But if this is too much for you to handle, then I could always go instead."

Lapsa quickly shook his head, while getting off his stale mattress, "No, I'm fine, I just thought you guys would need time to prepare.

"Nah, we're fine." Cayden responded also getting off his bed, but as soon as he got off a voice rang out.

"Wait," Cronix also got off his bed, "I have something that should help keep our identities safe."

Cronix gathered the dark elements and formed them into a thin veil.

Lapsa, who's never seen Cronix use the dark element, couldn't help but exclaim, "You're a demon! Is that why you look so weird?"

Cronix's lip twitched, but he didn't say anything, he approached Lapsa and touched his cheek bones, a string of mental energy surrounded the dark elements, and wrapped around Lapsa's head, keeping them in place.

Cronix did the same to Cayden and himself, "Do I need to cover your tails and ears, or are there other demi-humans who look like you guys?" Cronix asked as he put on his cloak.

"Not me, but Lapsa's kind is very rare." Cayden said, "Wait, no actually I'm going to need you to cover me up too, I'm the first person they'll think."

Cronix nodded, and covered all of Lapsa's noticeable features, when he was done, Lapsa's hair, tail, and ears were all black.

Cronix proceeded to do the same with Cayden, which was a lot easier since most of his features were black to begin with.

"And here you go Lapsa." Cronix handed Laspa the broken pieces of his old shirt.

Lapsa frowned, but he accepted them. When he grabbed them his frown instantly disappeared, "This..."

Cronix smiled, and turned to Cayden, "There, now we're ready."

Cayden nodded, then turned to Lapsa, "When you see the mayhem, that's when you go."

Lapsa didn't really understand what he meant, but agreed.

The three left at different times, with Lapsa going first, and ten minutes later Cronix left, before another ten minutes where Cayden left.

Even this late, most of the lights in the manor were still on, and a lot of people were still awake, especially the guards.

When Cayden left he saw Cronix in the courtyard, he was using dirt to draw something on the ground, there were three circles on the ground, with nine lines each.

"That cloak really hides everything, I wonder what he's doing." Although Cayden was curious, he didn't question Cronix, instead he focused on himself.

In the seven years he's been here he's made 17 stars, that type of work while exhausting did have its benefits.

Cayden gathered all the elements he could gather, and formed them in one star.

He recreated his fifth star, it wasn't completed, only comparable to the second star of the average two star Caster, but he did this in an instant, which was unbelievable.

This type of absorption was the reason he was able to create crystals so easily.

Cayden didn't stop there, he went to a different location, the beer cellar, this time there were other demi-humans brewing beer, but Cayden didn't care.

The beer cellar was underground, which led it to being the place with the most abundant earth elements. Cayden gathered every bit of the elements here, and refined them into his fifth star

His star quickly grew until it was completed, but he didn't stop there; he kept absorbing until his star turned into a very deep blue and a strong aura was being emitted from him, although it was noticeably unstable.

The other demi-humans turned towards him, there was horror and disbelief, "Are you crazy!?" One of them yelled out.

Very few demi-humans dared to break through to the flawless Caster stage, the Ayuna's were no doubt going to do anything to kill anyone who tried.

Cayden smiled at them, but none of them could see it through the veil.

The guards around the manor frowned, they felt it, the aura of someone taking that final step needed to enter the flawless one star Caster stage. Even the guards on Cronix's side were alerted by the aura.

Cronix frowned, he faintly felt it, but he didn't think much about it, but he did feel troubled when the guards were leaving their outposts on his side to go to the manor.

He looked at his work, there were nine circles full of the nine lines he memorized of the teleportation array, he sighed and gathered mental energy into his right hand.

...

Lapsa was relieved to see the guards on the third floor leaving their post to go down stairs, while he didn't know why, it was always a good thing.

But the problem was that not all the guards left the third floor, there were still some left. Lapsa frowned,

How do I get them out of here?

Lapsa was sizing the guard up, but this turned out to be a big mistake, they made eye contact. Lapsa cursed under his breath before speed walking away.

Lapsa took a glance behind him and his face instantly paled, the guard he made eye contact with was following him. Lapsa started walking faster, but the guard also sped up.

Lapsa turned into another hallway, but that was another big mistake, the only thing at the end of this hallway was a window. He didn't have any time to turn around because the guard was right behind him at this moment, so he could only speed up.

They eventually made it to the window, as Lapsa didn't have anywhere to go anymore, so he did the best thing he could do, he opened the window.

But the moment he did, he heard a rumble and a strong wave of hot air hit him, he covered his face with his hand to shield himself.

He heard the guard behind him curse. The guard proceeded to shove Lapsa out of the way, and gather the wind elements before jumping out the window.

Lapsa was so confused to see the guard act like this, but when he looked out the window, he understood.

"Cayden, what did you do?" Outside, in the courtyard, a massive explosion occurred causing fire to the nearby buildings, luckily the fields were still fine.

Cronix was huddled up in the middle of everything, he had his cloak cover his entire body, so he was fine.
