He took a deep breath in and lifted his right arm. Arlo was hoping he could create some feasible amount of air from his hand. He closed his eyes and started to meditate.
'Wait….how am I supposed to do this?'
From the knowledge he already had, Arlo knew that he needed some kind of energy to use his power. This mysterious energy came from within a person, it courses through the person's body like how blood flows through it.
When Arlo's trial had ended, he was transported to some weird place. Before he opened his eyes, he could feel his soul blooming. The energy contained in his soul also expanded and got denser.
'I have to use the energy within my soul, or else I won't be able to use my power'
It seemed pretty simple, use energy inside his soul to activate his power. But a big obstacle was in Arlo's way, how exactly was he going to tap into that energy and be able to freely use it? Did he need to become a monk?
'I guess I should try to picture it'
He again, closed his eyes and started to picture a calm river. The body of water was quite still, only small ripples spread throughout it. The water flowed evenly across the river, it reached every inch and corner of it. The river seemed to be blooming with energy, it looked alive.
As Arlo continued to picture the river, he faintly heard the sound of wind. Opening his eyes slowly, he saw a small gust of air going in circles right above the palm of his hand.
He had done it.
Arlo was controlling the air around him and making it into an air ball. His eyes widened and suddenly Arlo was overcome with joy and excitement.
'I'm actually doing it'
He made the ball disappear and reappear multiple times, just to check that it wasn't a fluke. After doing it multiple times, it felt like a switch had been turned on, in Arlo's mind. After every try he got a bit better at using his power, he was also getting faster at using it. Arlo was sure that before he was thrown Into the fallen world, he would be able to use his power on command and without wasting a single second.
For the next couple of hours Arlo practiced using his power until he was fully exhausted.
'Ah man, I'm so tired. Hopefully dinner rolls around very soon'
Using his power over and over again made Arlo realise that it was quite versatile. Currently he was too weak, but when he eventually got stronger, his power would be awesome.
'I could fly, or jump in the air or even make a tornado'
The various ways Arlo could use his power was limitless, which made a smile appear on his face. He was truly happy, it made all the struggle and hardship in his first trial worth it.
Not long after, Arlo went outside to the food hall to eat his dinner. He sat in a corner, far away from the rest of the people in the food hall, but aleast Seer was next to him, so he didn't feel that lonely.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?"
With puffed cheeks, Arlo glanced at Seer
"Ah..yeah I'm ready"
Seer nodded
"It's good to be prepared"
He glanced at Arlo
"So tell me Arlo, out of everyone here who seems the most interesting? Who would you like to be friends with?"
Arlo glared intently at everyone in the food hall, there were much more people here than in the morning. There were lots of new faces.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
"I'm not a picky guy, I'll be friends with anyone"
His answer seemed to annoy Seer, an expression of dissatisfaction was on his face, his voice had a hint of anger
"You don't understand Arlo, not everyone here is a good person. What if you befriend someone here, and in the future they betray you. What will you do then?"
His question made Arlo pause for a moment, he hadn't really thought about that. Everyone in the hall was in the same boat, so Arlo had assumed that everyone would cooperate during their time on Earth and the Fallen world.
"I….I don't know"
Seer sighed
"Just forget about"
After eating his food, Arlo went back to his room and rested for the day, he slept like a baby.
He was woken up by Seer knocking on the room door. He let out a small growl, slowly got up, then got changed and headed out with Seer to their first lesson of the day.
On the way to their first class Seer informed Arlo of what a typical day at the institution would be like.
"Normally you would wake up at 6am, get change and make your way to the food hall to get breakfast. Then at around 6:45 you will go to your first lesson, all lessons in the institution are 2 hours long."
"First lesson starts at 7 and finishes at 9, then your second lesson starts at 10 and finishes at 12. After 12 is lunch which gives you an hour break, to rest and recoupirate. Your last lesson is from 1pm to 3pm"
"That should sum up your daily life, but the institution insist that you practice during your free time. So most people take an hour break then practice from 4 to 6 or untill dinner rolls around. After dinner most people just rest and socialise till they have to go to sleep which is 10pm sharp"
With his hand on his chin Arlo nodded
"Wait…. so does that mean I missed breakfast"
A small smile appeared on Seer's face, in a delightful tone he said
"Yes, and it was delicious"
Arlo face palmed himself whilst walking to their first lesson
Their professor was a man with broad shoulders, tall figure and a imposing voice
"I am mr Blair. For the time you will be here, I will teach you the basics of fighting and wielding different weapons"
"All of you are at different stages, so help each another out. In the fallen world, you will only have the people around you as support, no body else will be able to help you, if you are thrown into a dangerous part of the fallen world, so help others which will make you rely on them aswell"
The man talked for quite a while before actually starting their lesson.
Everyone was told to grab a wooden sword, hold it with two hands, lift it up then quickly shoot it downwards. They repeated this for hours on end, with only a single 15 minute break inbeteeen.
When the clock hit 9 the lesson ended. Arlo's muscles were screaming in pain, they were ready to give up at any moment, but Arlo forced himself to go to the next lesson, which was defence.
A young looking guy was their instructor for defence class, he had a bright smile on his face and seemed quite cheerful.
The man told everyone to get Into pairs. One person would hold a small circular ball in both his hands, the other would simply stare at each hand. The aim of this task was to catch the ball when the other person released it before it hit the ground and you wouldn't know which hand would release the ball. The man gave them this task, so that they could learn how quickly they could react
"A quick reaction is vital during a fight, it will save you in many different situations. So you must first find out how fast you can react and then improve it."
After 3 hours of doing this agitating task the lesson ended
"Finally it's time for lunch"
Arlo was exhausted both physically and mentally, but lunch had made him quite excited
He hurriedly made his way to the food hall, got his lunch and jumped right into it.
This excitement didn't last long because before Arlo knew it lunch had ended and he had make his way to survival class.
An old man with grey hair led this class. He seemed passionate about his job because every time he would talk about the fallen world, his eyes would start to sparkle with excitement.
Most of what the old man talked about was already known to Arlo, so he didn't really pay that much attention. However somethings did make him snap back to reality
"Through tools and exploration we have learned that the Fallen world was created by mysterious beings, who once lived a long time ago"
"These beings had unimaginable power at the tip of their finger. It seemed that they would live on for eternity, but were consumed by something far greater"
"Okay, we'll leave it at that. I'll tell you more about these beings and the Fallen world later. Oh and tomorrow meet me outside this building I'll show you guys some basic survival skills like making a fire"
With a sigh Arlo got up and made his way to the exit of the building.
Today had drained everything out of him and it was only 3 o clock
"Arlo, are you going to practice after this?"
Seer said
Arlo tiredly nodded
"Y…yeah"
He rested for roughly an hour, then practiced his offence and defence skills with seer till it was dinner time.
They both made their way to the hall, sat in a corner and started to devour all the food on their plate.
A while later they got up, put their plates to the side and headed out to their rooms. Before leaving Arlo glanced back at the food hall, this was an opportunity form him to socialise, but he was to tired to even speak.
'Maybe next time'
The moment Arlo closed his dorm room, he jumped into his bed, lifted his sheets and just layed there
"Hopefully these 2 months pass by like a breeze'”
