Game 1: Chapter 3

Year 1 Month 1 Week 1 Day 3

Nock put the telescope to his eye and focused in on the gate a mere 2 hours' ride distant. The gate was held by Nagas, and in his grey view of the world, he didn't know which type.

Name: Nock Class: Barbarian Level: 3 Exp: 1200/2500 Specialty: Axe Throwers Luck: Neutral Morale: High Spellpoints: 20/20 Attack: 23 Defense: 20 Power: 0 Knowledge: 4 Troops: Catapult Ballista 100 Spear Dancers 70 Axe Throwers 20 Wolf Riders

In Nock's first battle under Lord Fluffytail, he had been surprised by 900 Pixies, and lost Spear Dancers because of the quickness of the bloody things. He found a Ballista for his trouble with the Pixies. The Wolf Riders he had encountered not long after had joined at 60 strong. The fight against the 800 Elf Blade Dancers had killed 2/3rds of the Riders he had and took some more of his Dancers as well. The fight with not 1 but 2 wandering deserters had exhausted him. He had claimed the Training Yard they were guarding and his lord had requested the amazons recruited from this external dwelling to make their way back to the war-camp, Ironmaw. It seemed to Nock that his lord had finally gotten around to naming his war-camp, most never bothered.

He remembered each one of his enemy's way of fighting, and the skills that they had and compared them with his own troops to try and avoid this kind of thing in the future.

It was no small amount of luck that he had gotten that ballista, if he hadn't had had it, he would be looking at a vastly smaller force than he would be comfortable with. He would need to improve his tactics if he was to avoid another blunder like that.

"Matriarch, I need your eyes, south-east by east, what are the colours of the Nagas' scales?" Nock asked as he beckoned the eldest Spear Dancer over. Without context, most people would think that amazons were humans, certainly they looked the part. That was where context came in. Nock was an orc on a dire-wolf, and he was looking down on the amazon the way someone a little further up a slope would look down on someone. If he was to dismount his dire-wolf, the amazon would stand 8 heads taller than him, and he was the biggest orc in Warsaw. He stood 2 heads above Brann, the Young King of Warsaw, the tallest human in Warsaw, and Brann was 6'10".

"They are red-white, blue-gold, and green-purple respectfully, Champion Nock," the Matriarch answered after a moment of adjusting how high she was looking. That confirmed to Nock that he had indeed figure them out as 3 different groups. The red-whites were Sorceresses', the blue-gold were Stranglers, and the green-purple were Witches. 2 of the 3 were ranged and the last one he had heard was capable of engaging multiple foes in a single attack. Though all of them were deserters, the fact that each one of the three groups was at least 600 strong would be the end of his service for Lord Fluffytail. Thankfully, these guards wouldn't be getting any reinforcements anytime soon, it would take at least a month before such came.

He made camp for the night and reviewed the various messages the scribes back at Ironmaw had sent to him throughout the day. Tomorrow was going to be very busy, but at least the lord had built a marketplace.
