Chapter 3: The Free Town of York

Chapter 3: The Free Town of York

*So, what do you want me to do?*

“To die,” I said darkly as I fake laughed as maniacally as I could.

*W-what!? But I swore an oath!*

I burst out laughing for real. It had felt pretty good to actually laugh after all this time. I guess it had been fifty years after all.

“I’m fucking with you,” I apologized, “I just couldn’t resist.”

I continued chuckling, and could have sworn I heard a few mumbled insults to my heritage and character emitted from the poor core. Which, of course, only made me laugh harder.

“Anyways, what I want to do is make York an actual Dungeon town. Also, what’s your name?,” I asked after my laughter had calmed down.

*What’s York? And what do you mean by Dungeon town? My name’s Arc.*

“York is the town where the people who invade your dungeon live,” I explained, “York is called a dungeon town because they kill your monsters and store the experience in gems that they give to the Revakan overlords.”

*Are those the scaly humans that I’m never able to kill. They only come in twice a year.*

“Yeah, they’re the reptilian bastards,” I answered, “Anyways, what I want is to kill all the Revakans in York, then have all the humans come in here. Then-”

*Can I kill them?*

“No,” I said as seriously as I could, instantly cutting off Arc’s excitement, “You will not kill humans, only Revakans. If I catch you killing a human without a proper reason to do so, I will kill you.”

*Wait, what! But you need me!*

“No. No, I don’t,” I told him, “Let me make this as clear as possible. I don’t need you. I need the powers that being a dungeon core gives you. I need your body, the gem that you reside in, to allow me to use your powers. I’m just letting you stay alive because one, having someone with experience that can watch over the dungeon while I’m not is useful. And two, because killing a being with intellect is something I find distasteful. Excepting Revakans, of course.”

*But it’s the only way I can level up.*

He sounded sullen, and I realized I may have been a bit too hard on him. However, it was important that he understood that killing humans was off the table as early as possible.

But, it was also paramount that Arc leveled up. The local Revakans may only be level 270, but the higher-ups were likely capable of getting through Arc’s defense. They may find it difficult, but they could still get in. Suddenly, I was struck with an idea.

“I might have a solution,” I said, “Tell me if anything happens.”

I then took the five filled quota crystals off my belt, threw them on the ground, and stomped on them to destroy them. A small flash appeared as they were destroyed, then faded away.

*WOAH!*

“What happened?” I inquired.

*Whatever you did leveled me up from 93 to 97. That’s the equivalent experience of ten of those level 80 ‘dungeon divers.’ I also got the blueprints for Energy Crystals.*

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Ok, good,” I said, “Can you make the crystals hold the life force of a Revakan? Because I’m going to be killing a bunch really soon.”

I knew dungeons must get experience from killing non-dungeon made beings. And since humanoids can’t get experience for killing other humanoids, I might as well give the useless revakan life force to the dungeon.

*Yeah, I think so. Now, where should I assign my stats . . . Woah, I have a title called The Champion’s Ally*

“Really, what does that title do?” I asked, “Also, what are your stats?”

To be honest, I was really curious about how dungeons were structured.

*It says that all of the mob types are now unlocked. Cool!*

Suddenly an Orange Slime appeared right next to me. Instinctively I smacked it, so hard that it flew into the wall and exploded. The rush of experience a short moment later confirmed its demise.

“What was that?” I inquired calmly.

*It was a mob of the Slime type, a Sun Slime. If you noticed, all the monsters in my dungeon have been either demonic, draconic, or bestial. I was planning on unlocking the Slime type next, because they’ll make my Dungeon’s floors squeaky clean*

“Vain,” I accused after a silent moment.

*Hey! I just take pride in my work, I’m not vain.*

“Sure,” I was unconvinced, “So you never told me what your stats were?”

*Oh, sure, let me send it to you. Status.*

*Shit.*

“What?”

*Another effect of the title is that I only get half the experience from Humans and allied races. Oh, but I also get double the experience from races hostile to humans. I guess that includes Revakans.*

“Damn right it does,” I said, “Anyways, as I was saying earlier, once I free York the humans if they choose to, will come into your dungeon and be brought to the bottom floor, where they will live and level up to prepare for the rebellion. There will most likely be more humans coming once I free more towns. Understood?”

*Yes.*

“Ok, so add twenty points to Floor number, and twenty to Mob Level,” I instructed, “The ninth floor will be the final defense, where the mobs will be on average from level 1080 to 1110. The boss will be the max level of 1140. The tenth floor will be where the freed humans now live. Add sleeping areas, eating areas, and training areas. Maybe prepare some equipment and monsters in the training areas. Also, add plants so the air will be recycled.”

*Ok.*

I could feel the air rumble with power as Arc made the changes I requested.

*Is there a specific type of monster you want on the ninth floor, you control freak.*

“Oy,” I said, “Nah, use your judgment. Don’t you have a whole new bunch of monster types you want to try out? Use them. Also, make me some of those Life gems.”

*Fine.*

I could tell Arc was glad to be in charge of something in his Dungeon. He quickly made a few Life gems that dropped into my waiting hands and were quickly attached to my belt. I placed the Core back into his hidey-hole, which quickly disappeared once again.

It was time to kill some lizards.

I walked out of the dungeon and headed to the center of town where the Revakan Manor was located. Once I got there I checked my equipment and prepared myself.

“Hey, you scaly assholes,” I yelled at the manor house, “It’s time to die.”
