Chapter 2: Dungeon Diving

Chapter 2: Dungeon Diving

It had been a few weeks since I had been found by Kyle. I had signed up to the Harvesters guild upon his advice. I had learned about the Mayor’s manor which was now used as the Revakan base in the area. Using my ridiculous stats I was able to earn the quota ten times over and use the excess to level up two times. The Revakan enforcers went through the town every so often to make sure everyone was paying up their experience. It took all of my willpower not to kill them right then and there

Throughout my dives in the dungeon I dived to deeper floors as my understanding of the classes the other Heroes wielded increased. Unfortunately, Arnold’s class, Armor Giant, was one I could not learn much of. It required a full-body plate armor suit to learn the more advanced abilities. I could use the basic abilities such as Iron Body and Mass Taunt, but not much else of the class.

Samantha’s Battle Master class made even the crappy guild assigned sword feel like a part of my body. Her Super Slash ability allowed for many bosses on each floor to die in one hit. Alexander’s Grand Sorcerer class allowed for the most killing with his massive Area of Effect attacks like Firestorm or Spiked Earth. Although it rarely happened with my massive Constitution, Katelyn’s Hierophant class let me get myself out of some tight spots using Great Heal.

Currently, the farthest floor in the dungeon I had gotten to was floor seven. I could likely go farther, but I tried to only go to the next floor once I felt like I achieved a proper amount of mastery. Yesterday, I felt that the seventh floor no longer provided much of a challenge, so I decided I would go on to the next and final floor of the dungeon. There was also something I wanted to test out in there. If it worked, tomorrow would be the last enslaved day of York.

As usual, the two levels of stat points were evenly distributed. I chuckled darkly as I thought about what the other Heroes would have said.

“Never can make a choice,” Samantha would say playfully.

I shook my head as if to get rid of my morbid thoughts as I started heading from the Guild Inn to the dungeon at the edge of the town. It was time to dungeon dive.

----------------------------------------

I pushed the dead boss of the seventh floor, a Grand Demon, off of my blade. I noticed many cracks were starting to form along the poorly made sword, meaning I would likely need to find a replacement soon, which would likely be just as crappy. I had long since filled the experience gems needed for my quota today, leveling up one more time.

It was in these moments where I truly appreciated Chaos’s blessing. The Heroes and I had faced Grand Demons before, but it always took all of us working together to beat it. Now I could defeat this monster using a few slashes of my sword.

As the body disintegrated, the loot dropped. However, I did not take any of it. If any of the Revakan Overlords found out I was powerful enough to defeat a level 600 demon, it would immediately draw attention that I did not need nor want yet. Instead, I walked to the back of the boss room where the stairs leading to the eighth floor were. I descended.

----------------------------------------

It appeared the eighth floor was a draconic themed one. This floor would have likely made even the Five Heroes run, as the average level was in the eight hundred. Of course, the dragons only provided a minimal challenge as I blasted my way through the floor, determined to get to my goal. I started using some of Hierophant’s offensive spells, such as Holy Beam.

Unfortunately, however, the Eighth floor was also a maze. Even I could not blast through the walls, which meant that the dungeon must have reinforced them. There were also several puzzle rooms, where the dungeon most likely thought it was being clever. However, like almost every other dungeon, it asked crappy riddles like: “What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?” It took me five whole hours for me to get through the goddamn floor.

I walked into the boss room. The Ancient Silver Dragon boss attacked me immediately and managed to blast me into the wall. I used Super Slash and was blocked by its claws before its icy breath froze me to the floor. As I strained against my icy prison, the dragon lifted its gigantic hand.

I will not fall here.

The ice melted instantly as I used fire magic to blast it apart. As the claw came down upon my head I jumped out of the way to the right and used Iron Body. I was not able to dodge completely and the claw skidded off of my left arm, which quickly became numb. I then used Mile Long Slice to cut off its head.

The head fell to the ground, and once again the body disintegrated and the loot dropped. However, I walked to the back of the room where I knew the Dungeon Core would be hidden. I cast Sense Magic to find the Core. I punched the wall where I sensed the Core a bit to the right. The wall collapsed and I found a shining crystal clear gem. But as I grasped the Core, my mind was immediately assaulted by a voice.

*Wait wait, please! Don’t kill me! We can make a deal!*

“What? Dungeon Cores are sapient?!” I exclaimed, almost shocked enough to have dropped it.  It had always been theorized they had some intelligence, but no more than some animal.

*Yes, yes! Please don’t kill me!*

“I’m sorry. I need to use the powers of the gem you reside in,” I apologized, sorrowful that I would have to take a sentient life, but knowing that my plans would fail if I did not have a core.

I was planning to take control of the Core by using the Capture Spell skill I saw Alexander use many times, though now I was starting to feel a bit guilty about it.

*Fine, I’ll do whatever you ask just please don’t kill me!*

“Ok, swear a binding oath then,” I said after considering for a moment.

*A binding oath?*

The voice sounded much more relaxed now that its life was not in immediate danger.

“It's where you swear upon your soul to do something,” I explained.

*Ok, I swear upon my soul to do whatever you want.*

“Thanks. I won’t have to kill you now,” I said relieved, “A bit of advice, next time you swear an oath, add some conditions. If I wanted, I could tell you to die. You would be unable to stop yourself.”

*Crap...!*
