Synopsis
YOU’RE ABOUT TO BE CATAPULTED INTO THE LITRPG FANTASY REALM OF CASTLE CRAWL.
Hold on to your medieval slippers and get ready to find out how a cadet from a next-gen military training facility ends up battling to save his brother, and the world, from an onslaught of two-headed trolls, goblins, and a barrage of other fantasy creatures.
SYNOPSIS Our story unfolds inside a vast military training facility for next-gen weaponry. The highly restricted base, known as Area 52, harbors rumors of technology with other-world origins. It’s also home to a facility like no other—a nanotech training environment. You’ve seen a drone show, right? Now picture billions of them, at a microscopic scale, programmed to take the shape of any environment imaginable! With the added ability to generate all manner of adversaries, it’s the ultimate, rearrangeable combat training course.
When a mysterious event transforms the high-tech training arena into the deadly world of the medieval fantasy game Castle Crawl, it’s up to Reeve, a top performing cadet, to save the rest of his team by navigating enchanted castles, defeating mythical creatures, and leveling up to avoid being decimated by the game’s combatants, all before the creatures can escape the arena and destroy the world.
ABOUT ME For the past 15 years, I’ve been fortunate enough to work at a very well known animation studio. As a Short Director, and supervisor on films like Wreck-It-Ralph and Big Hero 6, I love large world adventure stories and characters that have heartfelt revelations. I also have a suppressed, irreverent (some would say dark) sense of humor, and I let it out of the bag for Castle Crawl. But, word to the wise, don’t do anything I’ve done with this Royal Road campaign. To be successful, I was told that my cover has to feature a dude in the middle, wielding a glowing weapon, battling a beast, while explosions erupt in the background. I was told that you can’t explain why, or how your main character found themselves in their current predicament—you have to keep it ambiguous. I was told that you have to post a chapter per day, for the rest of your life... None of that is going to happen. I know that I need to write the type of story I would enjoy reading, or it just becomes another heartless product. If this book doesn’t connect with anyone, I doubt it will be because of the cover, or how quickly the premise is revealed, or the lack of posting 12 chapters per week, but rather, the fact that it just needs to be a better story—so that’s what I’ll be working to improve as things progress.
POSTING SCHEDULE I’ll post a new chapter each day through Sunday, March 2nd. The following week, I’ll post Monday, Wednesday and Friday on Patreon, and Monday and Friday on RR. Where I work, we improve the films we make through feedback, often rewriting them up to seven times per title. Castle Crawl is a first draft. I welcome and am grateful for any feedback. Hope you enjoy it!
