Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Hao Youfu forced himself to calm down and grabbed his messy hair. "As we discussed earlier, let's start moving,"he said.

Liu Kaiwen nodded hesitantly but didn't say anything.

Xue Fang sat down next to Jia Jing, unable to stop dry heaving. She couldn't vomit anymore, but her stomach kept cramping.

Jia Jing helped her up and they walked past Zhou Xuehai's body towards the wall.

"Aren't you going to help him?" Wu Wei shouted.

Xue Fang was too scared to look at the body on the ground. She stopped and weakly asked, "Can you take him out?"

Liu Kaiwen had already reached the door and was about to grab the key when Zhao Yihui's voice interrupted him. "Be careful..." He inserted the key into the lock and effortlessly turned it. The iron door slowly opened from the bottom up.

Everyone held their breath as the door squeaked open.

"Da... Da..."

They were halfway up when the door stopped moving.

Liu Kaiwen could only squat down and enter.

"Squeak... Click... Click..." There were sounds coming from the iron door, as if the wheel had started to turn.

"What's that sound?"Hao Youfu asked before realizing in terror that the door was quickly closing.

Liu Kaiwen disappeared behind the iron door.

"Liu Comrade!"

Everyone looked at each other, and the atmosphere became tense again.

"This door only stays open for half a minute," Zhao Yihui said calmly. "That's why there are eight doors. Each of us can only choose one door to go through."

Hu Zili supported Li Zisheng. "Comrade Li, can you hold on?"

Li Zisheng waved his hand. "I can."

Jia Jing looked at Xue Fang and Wu Wei.

"Jia Yao Po, what do you want me to do?"

"Can you climb up there?" Jia Jing pointed to the high door.

"What a silly question!" Wu Wei ignored her.

Hao Youfu sighed. At the moment, everyone had to choose their own door and rely on themselves.

"You guys pick, I'll bring up the rear."

The rest of them began to climb. Xue Fang's limbs were weak and she climbed slowly. She fell a few times and would have fainted if it weren't for Hao Youfu and Hu Zili catching her. After some discussion, they left the shortest door for her. They let her stand on the shoulders of Hao Youfu and Hu Zili and sent her to the nearest stone platform. She had to take the remaining steps on her own. Jia Jing looked at how close she was to the door and then at the figure climbing up above her. The braids on the figure's head swayed with every movement.

Unexpectedly, Wu Wei, who was small but agile, climbed to the highest iron door first. As everyone approached the door, Hao Youfu and Hu Zili began to climb.

Li Zisheng's eyes were blurred, and he couldn't see the keyhole clearly. He tried several times but failed to insert the key. Finally, Xue Fang stood on the stone platform in front of the door, panting heavily. She looked up at Jia Jing, who was waiting for her, and forced a smile.

Wu Wei stood at the highest point, watching everyone move. He smirked and slowly pulled out the key.

"Ah!"

A scream froze everyone in place. Hao Youfu was clinging to the cliff, with one foot on the stone platform, pulling the key rope mechanically. He turned his head and screamed at the person below him.

"Hu Zili!"

Xue Fang's eyes widened in horror as she looked at the person above her.

Hu Zili tightly clenched the key that was inserted in the lock, trembling all over. Blue-green electric sparks flickered at his wrist, making a "crackling" sound. The searchlight above him kept flashing. He was hanging halfway in the air, and in the rising black smoke, you couldn't see his features clearly.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"It's electric! Let go!" Hao Youfu had goosebumps all over his body, feeling a slight electric current coursing through his limbs. He yelled and tried to kick him.

"Don't touch him!" Zhao Yihui shouted.

"Don't touch him!" Wu Wei's face turned pale as he yelled at Hao Youfu, "Do you want to die?"

An unknown liquid dripped from above, and Xue Fang looked at the liquid on her arm. Her stomach was churning.

Hu Zili's body shook violently a few times and was suddenly thrown back, falling hard to the ground.

"Xue Fang, be careful!" Jia Jing shouted, reminding her. Xue Fang almost got hit by Hu Zili when he fell. She turned around and looked down.

Hu Zili lay flat on his back, limbs stiff, hands maintaining the position of opening the door. His exposed skin had some flesh turned outwards, revealing dark red blood clots inside, with blood vessels protruding and forming a dense network. Except for his round eyes, his other features were unclear, and everything was blurry.

"Wrap the key in clothing!" Wu Wei suddenly shouted.

Everyone woke up from their daze and grabbed their shirts, wrapping them around the key.

Hao Youfu gritted his teeth, opened the door, and disappeared.

Zhao Yihui followed immediately.

The rest of them panicked and opened the door.

Liu Kaiwen still didn't know what happened over there, staring blankly at the lamp.

After closing the door, he hadn't reacted yet and moved his foot slightly. He stepped onto an incline and slid down until the passageway widened and he saw another iron door in front of him. He couldn't control his speed and kicked the door open, sliding out. Sitting on the ground, he was stunned and somewhat defeated by the scene in front of him. When he turned around, he saw that the iron gate behind him had closed, and he tried pushing it, but it wouldn't budge. It could only be opened from the inside.

Feeling exhausted, he opened his bag and looked at the remaining half of his water bottle, recalling the honest Zhou Xuehai and wondering how he was doing.

After eating and drinking, he looked around, smiled bitterly, and thought to himself: "I've come back again!"

Even if he didn't study ancient tombs, he was sure that the place he was in now was very similar to the previous burial chamber - the same brick walls, the same murals. But there were significant differences. In this octagonal burial chamber, he could finally see a coffin. A stone coffin was placed on the stone steps directly opposite. There were two huge stone vats on either side of the stone coffin, which could hold three or four children easily. There were lights burning in the vats, becoming the lighting source for the entire burial chamber. There were several small pits of different lengths on the ground of the burial chamber, with nine small stone pillars, each with differently-sized blue circular stones mounted on top.

It should be what Hao Youfu called "Night Pearl." Looking closely, there were seven stone pillars that formed a constellation, reminiscent of the Milky Way Stone Band in the previous burial chamber. Could this be the Big Dipper? The pits under the stone pillars were like tracks. Could these stone pillars be moved? Just then, the iron door behind him made a noise, and he quickly turned around.

Hao Youfu sat there, motionless, with a dirty face covered in bruises and scratches, expressionless.

"Hao Youfu, what's wrong with you?"

Hao Youfu looked up at him and opened his mouth: "He's gone!"

"Who?"

"Hu Zili!"

"How did he disappear?"

"Electrocuted. I don't know if it was a problem with the door or the key...." He spoke softer and softer, his eyes grew larger.

At this moment, Zhao Yihui slid through the iron door with her eyes closed and fell to the ground. Liu Kaiwen promptly pulled her up.

"Where is this..." When she opened her eyes, she asked.

"Tomb!" Hao Youfu murmured, looking dazed and despairing. "How did we come back to the tomb again?"

Zhao Yihui saw the stone pillars on the ground, her expression slightly changed, and blurted out: "Seven-star lamp!"

"What seven-star lamp?" Liu Kaiwen had been observing Zhao Yihui, and when she said this, he hurriedly asked.

Hao Youfu turned his head back and stared at Zhao Yihui suspiciously: "I say, Comrade Zhao, do you think your knowledge has exceeded your profession? I don't believe that a serious history student would know about this 'seven-star lamp.' Who are you, exactly?"

Faced with Haofu's pressure, she remained calm and looked back at them both: "Have you not read 'The Romance of the Three Kingdoms?' Zhuge Liang once lit a 'seven-star life lamp' for himself to prolong his life. Many people have probably heard of this plot. Because of this, you suspect me? Then, let me ask you, why do you suspect me? Is it because you also know about this? In that case, can I also suspect you?"

Hao Youfu was at a loss for words after she spoke so fast, so he could only look at Liu Kaiwen for help.

Liu Kaiwen squinted his eyes and looked at Zhao Yihui. He had suspected this female colleague for a long time since she seemed to know too much and it was all too niche. In this era, there wasn't any serious school teaching such underground knowledge of tombs. He could still remember her mentioning "Corpse Dissecting Immortal," which didn't sound like a legitimate thing. But now that she obviously didn't want to talk about it, they could only keep an eye on her and watch her actions.

At this point, Liu Kaiwen patted Hao Youfu's shoulder and said soothingly, "Don't be too nervous. No one seems like a good person here. With your uncle doing this business, you would know more than others. Maybe Comrade Zhao family situation is similar to yours?"

Zhao Yihui gave both of them a cold look, walked past them, and squatted down to inspect the stone pillar.

Liu Kaiwen tapped Hao Youfu's shoulder, saying in a low voice, "Don't act now. We need her to help with the troubles in this tomb."

Hao Youfu could only suppress his thoughts and look back at Liu Kaiwen, nodding slightly.

The people behind them gradually came in and sat on the ground to rest. Only Wu Wei ran over to Liu Kaiwen and punched him in the face. Everyone was startled by his sudden outburst.

Liu Kaiwen completely unprepared and was punched hard. Even though he had a good temper, he couldn't tolerate such unreasonable behavior.

"What do you mean?" he asked Wu Wei with a scowl.

Hao Youfu hugged Wu Wei's waist and pulled him aside.

"I'll beat you up!" Wu Wei tried to shake off Hao Youfu's hand while waving his fist around, shouting, "It's all because of you! It's all your fault! You said there was no poison… but Zhou died…"

Hearing Zhou Xuehai's name, Liu Kaiwen's expression softened for a moment, but only for a moment. He had already suspected Wu Wei of having ulterior motives. "Game? A game people can die in? Who's next?"
