Jia Jing looked at the starry sky scene, somewhat amazed. Suddenly, she looked at Zhao Yihui curiously and asked, "Why did you draw a toad with two long tails?"
"Han Dynasty's toad images all have tails. The reason is unknown," Hao Youfu stared at the round stone and his pupils shrank suddenly. "Isn't this the legendary night pearl?"
"Such a big piece?" Hu Zili blinked his eyes. "This must be worth a lot of money!"
Jia Jing asked in confusion, "I heard the teacher say that the night pearl is fluorite. Fluorite won't glow if it doesn't absorb ultraviolet light."
Hao Youfu shrugged and said smugly, "Most night pearls are fluorite, no doubt. I heard my uncle say that there is a natural night pearl that can glow on its own, but it is very rare and recorded in ancient books. Do you know Shi Chong? He got one in the Western Jin Dynasty."
Xue Fang pulled Zhao Yihui's hand and pointed to the toad, saying, "In mythology, Chang'e lives in the Moon Palace, right?"
Zhao Yihui smiled and said, "The toad is Chang'e."
The people nearby took a breath and turned to look at Zhao Yihui, with "I don't believe it" written in their eyes.
Wu Wei glanced at Jia Jing and snorted twice. "You're as stupid as she is!"
Jia Jing clenched her fists, her face red, and her eyes staring at Wu Wei, wishing to rush up and beat him up.
Zhao Yihui quickly pulled Jia Jing and gestured with her eyes to ignore him and continue explaining, "Huainanzi said, 'Yi asked Queen Mother of the West for an elixir of life, but Chang'e stole it and fled to the moon, regretting the loss and unable to continue.' Zhang Heng also mentioned in 'Lingxian' that 'Chang'e then escaped to the moon and became a toad.' After Chang'e fled to the moon, she had no more elixir, so she could only transform into a toad and stay on the moon."
Wu Wei was a little dumbfounded and dissatisfied, "You're just talking nonsense!"
Zhao Yihui ignored him and smiled, "Toads have always been the spirit of water and mother, regarded as auspicious symbols for longevity and exorcism. As for the long tail, it is because the moon is the source of extreme yin, and the toad can both guard the moon and go to the underworld, communicating with the Yellow Springs. Many Han Dynasty tombs have toads to keep the tombs safe."
After this statement came out, the eyes of everyone looking at Zhao Yihui became subtle. Hao Youfu asked loudly, "Who are you?"
Zhao Yihui looked at everyone and shrugged, "Just like you, a student!"
"A student?" Hao Youfu was particularly skeptical, "What do you study? How do you know these things?"
"History."
Everyone listened and breathed a sigh of relief. She just studied this, no wonder she had so much to say about ancient tombs.
Hao Youfu smiled embarrassedly, "Expert! I was just fooling around at the class door. Experts are really different and know what they're talking about. Unlike me, who only knows some wild ways. Comrade Zhao, please don't mind!"
Zhao Yihui humbly shook her head, "I'm not an expert."
"Comrade Li!"
A cry of surprise sounded, and everyone quickly looked over to see that Li Zisheng had fainted. Xue Fang squatted down, touched his forehead with her hand, and said anxiously to everyone, "His forehead is so hot."
Hu Zili pushed Li Zisheng's back to check his wound. Upon closer inspection, he found that the oozing blood had glued the flesh and clothing fabric together, mixed with black dirt and looked like it was infected.
"We need to find a way out as soon as possible. His wound needs to be treated and he needs antibiotics," Xue Fang looked at Li Zisheng's red face and cracked lips, hesitatingly looking at Li Zisheng's bag. "Can we drink water?"
No one answered her. No one dared to guarantee that the water in the kettle was drinkable, and no one dared to be the first to try it.
Xue Fang bit her lip, suddenly turned over Li Zisheng's kettle, twisted it a few times, tilted the mouth of the kettle, and dripped a few drops of water onto Li Zisheng's lips.
"Xue Fang! You..." Jia Jing was startled by Xue Fang's actions and instinctively tried to stop her.
Xue Fang didn't even look back, just focused on observing Li Zisheng. Although she spoke very softly, she was different from before, "He's about to die! Since he's going to die anyway, why not try?"
Jia Jing was speechless for a while and licked her own dry lips, looking at the others.
Liu Kaiwen and Hao Youfu had no expression on their faces, and no one knew what they were thinking. Hu Zili and Wu Wei were a little scared, with a look of horror on their faces. Zhou Xuehai was full of worry and walked over, squatting next to Hu Zili, and caring about Li Zisheng's condition.
The waiting time seemed extremely long, and Zhao Yihui moved her steps and studied each mural carefully.
Liu Kaiwen glanced at Zhao Yihui and pointed his index finger at Hao Youfu, gesturing for him and himself to follow.
"Let's see if there are any clues in the murals."
Hao Youfu whispered, "I can't see anything. This is really ruthless!"
Liu Kaiwen sighed softly, "No choice!"
Hao Youfu looked back at the stagnant atmosphere over there, shook his head, and threw it aside.
"I said, Miss Zhao, do you have anything else to say?"
Zhao Yihui heard someone coming and didn't bother to turn around, "Some new ideas."
She led the two to analyze from the left side of the tomb door: "I looked at this side, and they are all daily activities. The figures in each painting are more detailed than the others, most likely the tomb owner. The owner must have been very rich during his lifetime, living extravagantly and brilliantly, with a retinue of followers. They hunted and drank, fought dogs and roosters, invited friends to banquets, and sought perfection in food. However, starting from the right, the picture changed."
"Changed?"
"Yes," Zhao Yihui led them to the right mural and continued analyzing, "Starting from this painting, the appearance of the main characters changed a bit."
Hao Youfu looked closely, "Hey, there are two more beards on the chin."
"Mustache! I guess the murals over there describe the tomb owner's life when he was young, and this side records the tomb owner's life after middle age," Zhao Yihui leaned her head and stared at the mural in front of her.
"This person is sick."
Haoyoufu looked at Liu Kaiwen and asked, "How did you know?"
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Liu Kaiwen pointed to the screen and said, "Look at this one. The tomb owner is lying down, and there are servants kneeling beside him. And if you look at the next one, the tomb owner's body shape is noticeably narrower."
Haoyoufu looked at it and stopped in front of a picture, then turned to the two and said, "That's right. In the other picture, the tomb owner looks much fatter, but in this one, he's too narrow."
Zhao Yihui continued to look at the paintings, and her eyes became brighter as if she had some insight.
"I think I understand the information in these murals."
Haoyoufu looked at Zhao Yihui with a fiery look and couldn't wait to say, "Expert, please tell us!"
Zhao Yihui slowly said, "After the tomb owner got very sick, he began to devote himself to nature and visited mountains and water. One day, he came to a group of mountains, where he saw mist swirling in the mountains. He met an old man and talked with him. The old man probably said something to him. After that, he built a pavilion on one of the peaks, and even set up an altar to offer sacrifices to the gods."
The murals did depict several large mountains with simple strokes, clouds on the mountainside, and the peaks were faintly visible with a few strokes. There were two figures at the bottom of the mountain, one of them was the tomb owner, and the other was an old man. The old man pointed to one of the peaks as if he were talking to the tomb owner.
The next picture depicted the scenery of a mountaintop with a pavilion, inside of which was a long table with plenty of offerings. The tomb owner was kneeling beside the table, possibly performing the ritual of sacrifice.
After that, in the same pavilion, the scene of the sacrifice disappeared, and what replaced it was a furnace and the tomb owner sitting quietly. Strangely, the tomb owner's image changed again, from the original body composed of two lines to one line.
"Huh? Is the tomb owner sick again?" Haoyoufu asked in confusion.
Liu Kaiwen shook his head, "Could it be a visual angle?"
"Since the time of the pre-Qin dynasty, there has been a saying of cultivating immortality. Isn't the furnace in the painting a cauldron? The tomb owner hoped to live forever or become immortal, so he began to offer sacrifices and refine pills on this mountain. If he was a worldly man before, from this moment on, he became an outsider, or... no longer human." Zhao Yihui looked at the painting, her eyes flickering, as if she had remembered something else.
"Not human!" Haoyoufu glanced at Liu Kaiwen and asked with some difficulty, "Then what is it? A dead person?"
Zhao Yihui was pulled back to reality by his words and thought for a moment, "The 'Baopuzi • Neipian' records that 'the superior man elevates his form to the void and is called a celestial being. The middle man travels in famous mountains and is called a terrestrial immortal. The inferior man first dies and then sheds his body, and is called a corpse-dropping immortal.' Perhaps this painting is meant to express the tomb owner's pursuit of shedding his body after death. Look at the next picture, and you will see the changes in the tomb owner."
They looked at the next picture, and indeed, the tomb owner had changed again. In the previous picture, his body was solid, but in this one, his body was made up of dotted lines.
"Then... does that mean... he became immortal?" Haoyoufu asked hesitantly.
Zhao Yihui looked at him contemptuously, pointed to the next mural, and said, "I don't know if he became immortal or not. I only know that he died."
"Huh?" Haoyoufu followed Zhao Yihui's hand and saw, "Hey, isn't this the picture of the tomb we just saw?"
"The tomb owner had been researching immortality until his old age," Liu Kaiwen thought for a moment, "So what's this tomb for? Sacrifice?"
Zhao Yihui's expression was somewhat strange, her vermilion lips slightly opened, and she was about to say something when Xue Fang and Zhou Xuehai's excited voices were heard.
"Comrade Li!"
"He's awake!"
Liu Kaiwen frowned, turned and walked to Li Zisheng. Before leaving, he gave Zhao Yihui a thoughtful glance.
"How do you feel?" Zhou Xuehai patted Li Zisheng's shoulder and asked with concern.
"I'm fine," Li Zisheng was still a little weak, he licked his lips and saw the water bottle that Xue Fang had opened. His eyes became much clearer, and he looked at Zhou Xuehai, "What's wrong with me?"
Hu Zili replied promptly, "You fainted with a fever, and you scared us all!"
At this point, Liu Kaiwen came to check Li Zisheng's condition, took the water bottle from Xue Fang's hand, and asked Zhou Xuehai to clean the wound briefly.
Liu Kaiwen took out a pack of biscuits from Li Zisheng's bag, broke off a small piece, and handed it to him, "Eat some. You need to eat something. We still have to find a way out."
Li Zisheng looked at the biscuits in front of him, which exuded the sweet fragrance of wheat and saccharin, but he didn't reach out to take them. He looked up at Liu Kaiwen.
Liu Kaiwen poured the biscuit crumbs in his hand into his mouth, mixed them with saliva, and swallowed them, smiling at him, "It's already like this. What could go wrong?"
Li Zisheng took the biscuit with difficulty and put it into his mouth.
Haoyoufu's expression changed for a moment. He looked at Zhao Yihui's focused expression and asked softly, "Since you know so much about the 'corpse-dropping immortal,' do you know how to leave here?"
Zhao Yihui turned her head and stared at him for a few seconds.
"What did you find?"
