Ruby's Scoop

*The following is a transcription of voice messages sent to the editor in chief Evelyn Vaughn, owner of the Chicago Herald Times, by her colleague Ruby Rourke*

Hey Evie,

I know I’ve kinda been in a rut lately, but I just got a tip to check out something in the hospital, something about a guy who was brought in a while ago, linked to some heavy stuff the police is still keeping quiet about, I got a pretty good feeling about this.

HOLY HELL EVELYNN,

I checked out the hospital, and Jesus.

There is this guy, right? And he’s like, missing everything he could probably miss, eyes, arms, legs I don’t even think he can hear or talk anymore, super screwed up, but there is even more.

Tip told me to look around the room and low and behold, below the guy’s bed, what do I find? Old-school tape recorder duct-taped to the bottom of the bed.

Let me tell you, the stuff that is on that tape is going to be a wildfire. If I got everything right, that guy that’s lying in there was some big-shot money guy? Well, whatever, the tape is a recording between what I assume is him, and someone else, obvious voice changer or something, talking about all sorts of crap. Something about merchandise, and something about it running around coked up?

I’m going to go on a limp and say maybe that guy was involved in human trafficking or something? Figures something like that would go under in Chicago huh?

The convo goes on about stuff, this and that, basically corpo stuff, nothing I’d print, but who knows?

Now I'm really curious about this whole mess. Tip was right, still wondering just who the hell the guy was who gave me the scoop, oughta get a hold of him and try to squeeze out a little more...

I'll have to transcribe the tape it, but I'm gonna need some convincing... this kind of smells like trouble.

Still, the potential for a major exposé is too enticing to ignore. If I can connect the dots to more stuff, this could blow the lid off of something big, I can just feel it, think of the awards this could get us!

I just hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew... or that the whole thing, the trail is gonna grow cold.
