Waking up with a surprise

Gigantija, imperial frontier palace,

Tarakmis was lying in her bed made of neat draperies and a horsehair mattress on a bed made of noble wood with leather braids as a base.

This was the most comfortable thing at that time, which was more towards the Iron Age than the Middle Ages. Civilization was not homogeneous and some regions were more developed than others.

Humanity and the survivors of the cataclysm had as a priority to recover and survive in autarky. Conquest and exploration of the world and the rebuilding of empires were secondary. Nature had only just recovered and cultures had yet to stabilise.

Much wisdom and knowledge was lost.

It is like being back in 1905 to 6000 BC. 8000 years of evolution lost and the population with it. We were back in the time of the first cities and kingdoms.

Tarakmis already had a headache when she woke up because of the mass of tasks to be done to reorganize her kingdom into a pseudo empire and she had to deal with the elves who were not easy to deal with and who had preserved a larger part of their knowledge and also a larger part of the population which now outnumbered the humans.

She sat on the edge of the bed.

"What a dream....What madness...!" but she gasped in shock as she saw sleeping next to her a masked human with horns and a long black tail and legs with inverted knees like that of dragons. Two huge canines as big as a saber-toothed tiger protruded from her lips and she growled a little as she began to wake up.

The queen was frozen...paralyzed and couldn't even scream...it was impossible.

The fear was overwhelming.

There was talk of the prophecy, of the blessed wyrm coming, but she doubted it was her.

Darkia slowly sat down on the edge of the bed and relaxed her arms, spreading them wide and opening her mouth, showing the full extent of her semi-human teeth.

She turned her head.

"So... slept well, little queen?"

"Huh.. huhu huhhhh" and she whimpered and cowered in the corner of the room, behind a wicker manne.

"Who...who.... who are you??? What are you????"

Darkia didn't understand immediately but the gift of universal language allowed her to understand the human.

"I am .... I am......" but she lowered her head...and began to cry....

"Where are they? Where are we?"

The queen's breathing calmed, seeing that the monster was talking and not going to jump on her.

"I ... I am Queen Tarkmis... I rule over the Barbarian peoples and work to rebuild our empire ravaged by the Cataclysm that destroyed our world. Gaia...

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

We don't know when we are but it's 500 to 2000 years from the great cataclysm. When the pointy monster murdered our world.

Darkia: "The Octahedron is here?

Tarakmis: "The pointed mountain? It's the devil that dwells there and everyone who goes in comes out with horrible cold burns. It's full of monstrous creatures, demons from the underworld all frozen in infernal ice...

Yes... I remember... in the dream... You too were in demonic ice... You must be a demon that I released... and you're going to devour me!!!!"

Darkia sighed.. and nodded as if to say no..

"My name is Darkia... and I am also a queen like you. You came to the world of dreams and freed me...or rather woke me up from a deep sleep...but first, I would like to look with you at the sun that has just risen. I can't stand the dark and the cold anymore. And... it was good to sleep next to you... you saved me from a horrible nightmare... thank you..."

Darkia dropped to her knees and kissed Queen Tarakmis' foot.

"Darkia. Who are you and where did you come from???"

"I have only just woken up and I am confused... I am afraid... my family, my little one, my friends... where are they?"

Tarakmis: "Nobody knows anything about what you are. To us, you are demons and destroyers...you are the angels of death..."

Darkia: "I..." but she remained silent... thinking of Enka and her responsibility for all this slaughter, this hecatomb.

"I... I am a dragoness... and the queen of cau... of dreams. And you have seen my palace. Once this place was colourful, full of life, full of people and dreamers. It was warm and like a paradise. But there were, as in every world, good guys and bad guys and it was relative.

Tarakmis: "There is some kind of prophecy that a blessed wyvern would come here. And according to our goddess, she is on her way here. She has a name I believe... Louise the wyvern???"

"LOUISE??? LOUISE IS ALIVE????" uh... a wyvern you say??? But Louise is human! She is my adopted daughter!!!! my little Louise!!!!!

Darkia's face lit up. hope turned to despair...

Darkia: "What about Arnold? Arnold, have you heard anything? "

At these words, the queen became a little more frightened... that would be the special name of the pest in the west that would have exterminated the arenas...

Queen Tarakmis calmed down, not wanting to reveal everything at once. She also had to protect her kingdom...

She didn't know what to say, terrorized by her actions. The presence of darkia was for her like a swimmer with a great white shark around her. She did not know when or how Darkia would bite and devour her.

In fear, Tarakmis fell to her knees.

"Please Queen Darkia..I submit myself and my entire kingdom but I beg you, don't hurt us...we are barely making it.

The world destroyed..the elves and now, the infernal pyramid with its demons...

Darkia sighed.

"We're not demons...we're just... refugees...

We are... we fled the destruction of the world and we seek asylum... we wandered in the void of space for centuries in the eternal ice, like a sarcophagus on a landless ship. We have wandered and wandered and wandered and wandered and fallen here.

Tarakmis pointed out the window at the huge mountain.

"When it happened, almost everyone is word..."

Darkia: "I'm sorry... but we didn't rule the mountain it's goddess.

One day we gathered in the village and lay on our nests and beds, waiting to die or freeze forever... but the whole village was carried away and us with it... That's all I know. But not all could have had this chance or misfortune..."

Tarakmis then understood a part of the hidden story of the mountain of darkness.

"Why is it so cold inside?" the queen asked Darkia.

"I don't know... I wasn't there directly, my dream world probably attached to the structure by magic or some science that escapes me but are there other dragons... other survivors?"

"Here we are recovering from the cataclysm and my information network is still small and slow. And the elves lurk and watch. Not to mention the dwarves, but all I know is that to the southeast there are wyverns roaming around and attacking travellers and that a group of barbarian humans have survived. The elves are trying to exterminate tribe after tribe to expand their territory and ultimately eradicate or contain what's left of the humans.."

Darkia remained thoughtful and remembered the Ummite war.

Tarakmis then invited Darkia to come and eat with her, a servant having caught them in the room but merely to warn them that breakfast was ready and that preparations for the caravan to return to the human capital were ready. They were only waiting for Louise and the Goddess of Light to arrive.

Tarakmis: "Today, probably, the wyvern of the prophecy will arrive.
