36. arrogance

Whilst Swift held the conjoined crystals the reforged goblins were still collapsed to the ground in honour of him,  his lack of attention to them was almost insulting as he stared into the crystals. Adil grabbed the attention of the leader and attempted to talk.

"We need to prepare for war. They are coming to kill us."

The leader looked alarmed and confused. "Who?" "The cursed ones?" he asked.

"No, they are all dead, the humans have gathered to attack. Strong humans in armour." Adil added.

He didn't seem to take much consideration over it. Looking down towards Adil the leader said in his new deeper voice "With this new power, no mere human could pose a threat."

"Mere human?" Adil asked. Looking towards him.

"Are we not, mere humans?" he added.

"I mean little offence, but you do not appear strong."

"Do you wish to test that theory?" Adil asked casually opening his arms with an annoyingly cheeky smile.

"I do not wish to hurt one that has done so much for us," He said.

Adil slapped him.

"Please stop that," he said.

Adil punched the goblin in the face, he brought back his fist a throbbing pain in his hand. The goblin had a small cut from his lip hitting his teeth.

"If you must, I will show you our difference." The leader said. He stood forward towards Adil dropping his sword and shield to the side before taking a fighting stance.

Adil dove in for a punch at the blue-green giant, but the giant easily batted his arm away. When the bone-armoured leader went in to reply it looked as though Adil was wide open, bearing a look of emotionless resolve he lunged. Adil's smile grew larger as he saw the attack coming in. With a twist of his body, he nimbly dodged the attack and planted three consecutive punches into the larger one's chest. The punches had little effect, but the bone-wearing goblin now took him more seriously and went to swat him away, pushing Adil back before taking a serious stance.

"You are fast." he said.

Adil went in for another attack and but the leader feinted an opening just wide enough for Adil to come in, as Adil dove he went to grab ahold of him. Adil seeing this coming channelled lightening mana into his elbow to bat off the hold on the arm and spun to plant his heel into the goblin's chest. The goblin leader was pushed back and now on one knee, feeling slightly winded gritted his teeth, eyes locked on Adil. Adil, now light on his feet was jumping from foot to foot, awaiting the goblin's approach. The leader now felt his pride on the line.

Letting out a roar the goblin dove lunging with one of his fists. As it failed to connect he braced for another punch, shrugging off the force of lightning and then reached out for another grab.  The fight went on like this, the strength of the goblin against Adil's speed. Adil slowly chipped away whilst avoiding attacks until the goblin grabbed a hold of Adil's shirt. Seeing the problem he held onto the giant hand and pulled it down with him, trying to slip between the leader's legs, helped by a push of air. This did not work, and the goblin managed to instead get a hold of Adil pulling him up with one hand. Adil was flung onto the ground where the leader went to dive in and finish him off, a smile now on the goblin's face. But in the moment of panic Adil burst a mighty gust, throwing the leader up into the air. The goblin crashed down and the fight was over.

The leader of the goblins slowly got up to his feet, an audience was now at full attention. Awestruck by what had just happened. When the leader looked to Adil his face was solemn.

"If they are all as strong as you, it will be difficult." The leader said.

"I must ask you, what is your plan." He added. The goblins slowly approached, being interested in what was happening, and having a newfound respect for the one who beat their leader.

In a few of them, he saw what he had before with goblins in the depths, a deep respect. Looking to him like some divine creation. Whilst others still showed signs of distrust, seeming to think of him as human first.

"Everybody!" Adil shouted across the cavern.

The orcish goblins all stood to face him, even the occasional creature looked in his direction in quasi-obedience.

"There is an army coming, waves of soldiers from the strong humans. They are coming to kill everyone here. To crush homes, kill children and burn away any sign of life."

Some of the goblins held their hands to their chests in emotionless resolve at the sound of this, whilst others just appeared confused.  That was all Adl had planned to say but the goblins seemed to be expecting more.

"They, will walk over here. Killing everything they find. Burning all the trees, grass. Everything you had ever known and everything you have ever done. They will do this because of their beliefs that none of this should exist. They believe that people like you do not deserve to exist."

The goblins grew more fierce in their stares. A stare of respect, a stare of admiration and a stare of resolve. Adil felt inside him a power rising, his voice grew deeper and more distinct as it was carried across the cavern.

"But we, we will show them that everything in here has worth. That everything here should exist. That we deserve to be here, to live in this land."

His mana seemed to be flowing through his words, flowing through the air.

"We will show them, That we are better than they will ever be! We will show them that we are-"

A prompt shone in the eye of Adil before he finished his speech.

Name your village _____________

Caught in the moment Adil gathering all the stares of the many creatures before him shouted the first thing that came into his head. "The Cave!"

Realizing what he had just done he wondered if he could just backtrack a bit. "Crap!" Adil exclaimed seeing the cheers of the goblins before him. A  bang sounded off as a mix of golden flame and electric mist shot off from the spawning crystals, almost shocking Swift enough to drop them. The coalescing lights grabbing the attention of all the goblins.

name: "The Cave"  has been accepted. Spawn crystals have been intrinsically connected to the village "The Cave".

*Oh dear god, there must be a way to change this.* Adil thought. A chorus of chants echoing throughout the cavern as goblins cheered and animals hooted.

"Crap!!" the occasional goblin shouted, not understanding the language.

The goblin leader, however, looked at Adil in pity. A sense of confidence in himself seemed to be apparent in his new larger form.

In his new deeper voice the leader said. "Once a name has been set, it cannot be changed. For the world will all know what it was once called it is marked within the nature of its very essence."

He saw the crowd begin talking amongst themselves, a few of the children had started playing with the strange new creatures.

Adil raised a hand to the newly formed village stopping the talking.

"We have a day to prepare, to build barricades, to create weapons, armour. Then the armies will come here. They will think us weak and we can use that to our advantage. Draw them into the caves where can use the surroundings against them." he started. He relayed the plan in detail. Each goblin warrior following what he said. Listening to the human that beat their leader and spoke their language. The one that works with the moon mother and gave them a new found power.
