Chapter 27: Free for All

Chapter 27: Free for All

“Cover all of them! Spread out!” Garza shouted looking from left to right.

Residents of the town started looking out at the desert and they were shocked and horrified at the sea of infected beast coming to get them.

“Let it rain!” Garza said and then signaled one of his men to go and calm the people down as he monitored the situation.

“And pray they can handle the rest…” he whispered as he looked down on the trio facing the black army.

Magnum ran further away from the left, “You handle this part! Move further back Tanna!” he said as he jumped forward.

Tanna looked troubled, “Don’t go too far!” she said.

The cannons and arrows started falling. Explosions of sand, fire, and monsters filled that air but the march went on. Rising from the chaos was the first wave of monsters of all sizes with dark red eyes and hate-filled jaws. Hundreds of smaller ones came out from the cover of the large ones. Four-legged, two-legged, it doesn't matter as they jumped and ran forward like hungry beasts towards the Guild Master and Magnum.

“Ready!” Tanna shouted from behind the two. They formed a triangle covering the whole assault.

The Guild Master took a deep breath and jumped forward. He started slashing forward, left and right, and everything that came close to the range of his lance started falling and burning one after another.

“Old Man is super crazy!”

Magnum’s body shook with the earth as he looked at all the monsters running towards him.

"Are you afraid, human?"

"Are kidding me? I'm burning with excitement!"

"Good!"

"But where is this coming from Askel?”

“I told you already. We’re not related to this curse. We don’t know.”

“Ready Bunta! We’re gonna eat!”

“Eat! Eat! We’ll eat Askel!”

He gripped his weapon, “The old man jumped. Then me too!” He ran forward, made a big step, and turned around creating a huge swing and explosion. The whole group in front of him disintegrated but more came in. He continued the momentum of his first swing and made his next attack much more destructive than the first destroying the batches that came to him.

Large shells fall one after another beside Tanna. She was targeting the big ones that survived the barrage. She makes them fall with one shot and switches from right and left supporting both the Guild Master and Magnum.

More and more came to Magnum and Guild Master and they continued to shut them down. Each swing and slash hits something different and destroys it. The demon dog meanwhile was behind Magnum eating all the cores that dropped.

A huge arm as big as Magnum slammed in front of him, a giant gorilla’s fist.

“Whoa! I saw you coming in!”

Magnum jumped and ran on its right arm. The gorilla didn't know what to do and he busted its head and chest in two quick swings. He then jumped down to the sand to take care of the smaller ones.

The Guild Master on the other side was turning red, like an angry aura was surrounding him. His slashes turned faster and faster and his lance started to look like a whip. Each hit was exploding on impact destroying multiple targets.

“Don’t stop firing! Support the Master and the Black Knight!”

“Keep the ammunition coming! No one stop moving!”

Garza was managing the battlefield. He had snipers ready to shoot anything that escaped the trio below while the cannons and ballistas continued the barrage.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“They never stop!” Tanna fired his last bullet and she ran back to the walls. She went straight to the beetle house. It had been twenty minutes since the battle started and the sea of monsters were not showing any signs of dwindling.

More large ones started to survive the barrage and come through. They surrounded Master and Magnum but not one was able to hurt them. However, the sheer number was starting to be too much for the three of them. If they kept on coming, they will be overwhelmed.

“The old man still going, Askel?”

“Yes human. But his spirit was lesser than earlier.”

“He’s in trouble? Go to him!”

“He just tried to kill me earlier!”

“Yeah! But that is how you make up with him!”

“He’s not in trouble yet!”

“Okay, but the moment he started to show some weakness! Save him, And this means I need to kill faster! Bigger explosions. Carzi!”

“Hmm, adjusting for bigger explosions. Bunta, eat some more core! So I can make bullets without worrying about running out of spirit!”

“But we never ran out!”

“We will. If this continued for days!”

“D-days? Okay! Let’s eat!”

“Good. Not worrying about bullets will help me focus on the battlefield! Thanks Carzi!”

“Hmmm…”

Magnum continued swinging and blasting. Upwards. Backwards. He danced around the battlefield taking down beast after beast. He and the master were now surrounded. Some of the beast started marching forward to the town however, they were shot by the snipers from the walls. Tanna came out of the stable but now she's on top of a beetle. She continued to blast holes in the head or chest of the towering monsters with her sniper rifle.

“We need to move back. Hey!”

She started running her beetle towards the Guild Master as more and more monsters surrounded him. However, a huge red blast burned a wide radius around him and he jumped forward again to face more.

“No, of course not! We move forward!” she said.

“Human! The old man jumped forward again.”

“What? The Master?”

Magnum looked and indeed the man was still raging like a lion protecting his territory.

“I need to keep up! Grenades Carzi!” he said and two grenades materialized on his left hand. He quickly threw it on both of his sides and then jumped forward.

“Keep it up! Soften them up for the Master the Black Knight! We will not ran out of ammo!”

Garza watched in disbelief as the two plowed through the black sea monsters, “These two are monsters but will they be enough?”

A loud screeching sound echoed above. He looked up and saw the eagle flying high on the clouds. A circle of light formed around the eagle. The light became bigger and bigger twice as the eagle's size and then it shot like arrows from above raining down on the enemy.

“Holy crown!” he said.

The barrage of light went on for several seconds and killed half of the marching horde. He couldn’t believe what he saw. The eagle remained high above watching the chaos of its power. Then Garza started to see the end of the horde.

Garza looked to his left and called a mercenary on one of the cannons and then jumped down. He ran through the walls and made a strong leap and landed on Tanna’s beetle.

“Was that the Don?” Tanna asked.

“Yes!”

“I knew it!” Tanna said.

Garza picked up another sniper rifle from one of the compartments of the beetle and started shooting, “Let’s end this now!”

“Great! Forward!” she shouted and the beetle proceeded to run forward.

“That was the spirit beast! Let’s run now! While they are still busy!” Askel said.

“No! We just saved their asses!” Magnum said.

“Saved? They didn’t even need our help!”

“No, they need us! That man is old! He can probably just do that once!”

“Stupid Human! You don’t know how strong spirit beasts are!”

“Just trust me okay? This… Us fighting with them… they will welcome us!”

The barrage from the mercs started to lighten up. Magnum and the Master were now in the middle of the army forming two white holes on a black field. The remaining hundreds of infected animals surrounded them. Their attacks started to become coordinated. They do not attack blindly anymore. The Master and Magnum found themselves at each other’s back. They growled at each other but they knew they had to cooperate to finish them all off.

Shots after shots of a rifle sounded from a distance. It was Garza and Tanna encircling the army, rounding up the beasts towards the two melee fighters.

“Okay, old man. This is easy enough for us if we just try a bit.”

“Don’t call me old Man! Demon!”

“Okay, gramps don’t be so grumpy!”

Monsters jumped at them and they started blasting and slicing again. They jumped around while protecting each other’s back, dwindling the enemy forces little by little. However, one mother demon in the form of a snake started eating other beasts. It grew larger and larger as it ate more.

“We have competition!” Bunta said.

“Human! Take that one first!” Askel said.

“I can’t leave the old man here! He looks tired!”

“He is tired,” Carzi said.

The snake grew bigger and bigger and it spawned four arms. it was triple the size of a mother demon now and it ate what remained of the army.

“Thanks for helping us clean 'em up!” Magnum said.

The snake replied with a roar towards the sky and a poison rain started dropping. Tanna and Garza started shooting the snake but it wasn’t doing much damage.

“Get back kid! I’ll handle this!” the old man said.

“No gramps! You stay back! There's poison!” Magnum jumped forward and swung its weapon at the snake's body.

“It's durable!” he said while evading the tail whips and hand slams. Only a small chunk was destroyed by Magnum’s with his latest attack.

“Triple and formula, Carzi. I’ll blow this one up!” Magnum said.
