Goblins And Grandmas – PART THREE
Later that day, Daisy found herself alone in the company break room. The floor was having a party to celebrate 96% meeting their monthly quota, and she wanted some of the leftover goodies. The redhead hummed with glee at the sight of the coffee table filled with sugary treats. Cakes, cookies, milkshakes, ice cream bars, and jars stuffed to the brim with candies for her to devour. Corporate had gone out of there to spoil all the workers for the sacrifices they made. It was a shit ton that just the thousands at the call center had done.
The pay was low and the economy was crashing so they often skipped lunch. It was just too expensive. Daisy glowed at the sight of the free food. It was a gift that just kept on giving and she couldn't wait to taste whatever she could in the ten minutes she had left. She had specifically waited till her time was almost up as everyone else would have gotten their fill. Her hands practically itched as she struggled to decide on what to try first. Daisy took a small donut hole and took a bite, moaning as it melted in her mouth.
Just then, one of her coworkers, a chocolate haired woman walked in. The redhead didn't know her very well but the other woman had an annoyed look in her eyes. “Your phone has been going off for the last twenty minutes.” She sounded exhausted but still the ginger didn't appreciate the rudeness.
But she knew that remaining professional was the best course of action for now. “Oh, it has?” The brunette nodded with a loud huff that made Daisy's eyes twitch. “Alright. I'm sorry, I just left five minutes ago to go on my break.”
“Well. Go pick it up.” The brunette retorted matter of factly.
The ginger struggled not to bite back. Daisy swallowed the curses in her throat, grabbed some of the sweets and excused herself. If one of her coworkers wanted to be a jerk it did her no good to huff and puff back at them. She was here to make a living before moving onto bigger and better things. They weren't important in the grand scheme of her life and career. But Daisy had to admit she was embarrassed that her phone had been ringing without her knowledge. She hoped that it hadn't been tracked by any busibodies.
When they missed calls too often it affected their pay or worse, could get them fired completely. Her chest felt really heavy with anxiety as she heard her phone screeching. The woman quickened in her pace, trying not to gain attention from her fellow ambitious workers.

Once she made it to her desk she looked at the call log. The same person had been calling her and hanging up repeatedly. Their number didn't show up unless she picked it up so she had no idea who it was. All she knew was that she wished her break hadn't been interrupted. But she'd pout in a corner about that later.
With the phone to her ear, Daisy cleared her throat. “Hello, this is Daisy and I will be your service worker. I apologize for taking so long to pick up.” She tried her best to sound as professional and calm as she possibly could to the caller.
There was silence at first. Then a low growling started that reminded the ginger of a dog's. Finally, someone began to speak and instantly she recognized their voice. “Please! Please help! There's goblins in my house!”
It was the old woman from before and she sounded more afraid if not hysterical. “They won't leave and I'm so afraid!” Her voice was raw from crying as the poor woman let out a mess of weak sobs. “They're destroying my house!”
Daisy put the phone on hold and sat at her desk in silence. So many thoughts were running through her head as she thought everything over. The slayer had just told her that everything was fine and that the repair was being made. But here was a frightened woman who was claiming that the same things were happening. This was a tough situation and she knew that calling Sheryl or the slayer wasn't an option this time. They weren't the ones employed to take care of customer service requests: she was. But goddammit, Daisy didn't know what she was supposed to do here. It wasn't like she could give the woman a way to make the goblins stay away permanently.
Regaining her composure, the ginger picked up the phone and spoke with a soothing tone. “I'm sorry to hear that ma'am. Do you remember our call from before?” She hoped that the woman would be calmed by the familiarity.
“No,” The old woman was confused as she began to get agitated. “We've never spoken before! My son just told me to call this number an hour ago! What game are you playing at, young lady?” The woman spoke as if she were about to scold her.
Daisy frowned and asked again. “Ma'am? You called yesterday about the same issue. You told me that goblins had attacked and messed with the foundation of your home.”
The old woman scoffed and started to scream at her. Daisy swore that her eardrum was about to rupture as the woman ranted and raved. “What are you talking about? I never called you before! This is the first time I've seen a goblin in the seventy-five years I've been on god's green earth!”
She didn't know what to say. This was for sure the woman from before but she genuinely sounded lost by Daisy's question. The redhead wondered if maybe she was confused by the shock of the situation. She shook her head and decided to look into the woman's lack of recognition later.
Right now, she had a family member she could contact for the woman. If she got the son's number or address, she could send out a request for an agent to visit. This agent could explain the goblin infestation more in depth and work out a proper solution for the man's mother. Plus, Daisy knew that her son being involved would help make the woman feel much safer.
