Goblins & Grandmas – PART ONE

Goblins And Grandmas – PART ONE

The world was full of ups and downs. We had our household to take care of, our children to tend to and our relationships to manage. The mundane things in life left us carrying a large boulder on our back every single day. We often find ourselves becoming overwhelmed with everything. A crack develops and we struggle to take in what we're dealing with. At times like this, we realize that the best thing to do is to reach out a hand and ask politely, for help.

“Hello, this is Daisy speaking. How can I help you?”

“Please! You have to get the police!”

“The police? Ma'am, can yo–”

“There's goblins in my house! In the walls! The floor!”

The phone shut off briefly and the ginger holding it looked at her colleagues. Working at Dimension Travel Support and Reports was a pain sometimes. She sighed and rubbed at her forehead as the old woman she spoke to screamed her head off. Daisy had been told that today would be easy. That she could just go in for the morning shift and head home by 12.

Nobody told her that she'd be dealing with goblins. They're no doubt ripping the poor woman's house to shreds. Daisy didn't know what to tell the poor woman. She wasn't trained for this situation or anything like it. She could tell you how to deal with a pesky brownie stealing from your dryer. Not how to fight for the foundation of your house to survive a goblin raid. Her heart was pumping as she clicked the call.

“Are you sending someone? Anyone?!”

Daisy set the phone down on the table and began to type on her keyboard. “Ma'am, please stay calm. I'm sending your request for a goblin slayer to one of my superiors.”

The ginger knew that a goblin slayer was the woman's best option. Sure, she could type up a formal request to the witch and warlock department to go in. But they would need time to gather ingredients for a potion against the creatures. And by the growls in the background, she wasn't sure the woman had time to spare. What this granny needed was a battle hardened goblin killer to come in and raise hell. Daisy hit send and listened to the woman ask a flurry of questions.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Ma'am, a goblin slayer is a exterminator just for goblins.” That wasn't exactly true but it was close enough for now.

The old woman groaned and let out a fearful whimper. Daisy let out a hum of sympathy, not sure what else to do or say. Her training had never really prepared her for the worst case scenario in these types of situations. She was supposed to be customer service, not an emergency call service. The ginger sighed for what had to be the millionth time. She was going to have to call for help at this point. The older woman sounded like she was about to pass out from the situation.

“I'm going to direct your phone line to an emergency service worker. They are better equipped to help in these types of interactions.” Daisy told the woman while making sure that the call was being recorded and saved to the cloud.

The old woman cried. “What if they don't pick up? What am I supposed to do? The ground is starting to shake!” This made Daisy begin to sweat and she took on a harsher tone.

“Ma'am. I need you to leave the home and wait on the side of the road for the Goblin Slayer to arrive. Please hold on.” Before the woman could even reply Daisy switched lines.

Daisy called up the emergency line and connected to a worker she recognized. Sheryl was a veteran who'd been working with the company for nearly three decades. They had talked once or twice at a company party before the holidays. From what the ginger knew, the older woman would be more empathetic with the elderly woman. She would be able to keep her calm and make sure that help arrived as soon as possible. Daisy waited for the call to connect, noting that it took a minute longer than usual.

“Hello?” Sherly sounded as chipper as ever.

“HI, it's Daisy from floor five.” Daisy wrote down the time of her call and the date. “I'm on the phone with a woman who is being attacked by Goblins and needs some help.”

Sherly hummed and responded in her squeaky voice. “Oh! A goblin attack at this time of year. Oh, my. Did you contact a Goblin Slayer yet? They can help her immediately.”

“I put in a request but I think she needs to speak to someone more experienced. She's very afraid and has started to cry. Are you fine with handling the call till the Goblin Slayer comes?” Daisy saw that the old woman had hung up and recalled her a total of ten times at the last minute.

The call worker felt a shred of sympathy peak through. While she preferred to keep her work emotions separate from her real emotions, she couldn't help but feel sad. The woman had to be in her late sixties by the sound of her voice. Most older people she knew around that age lived with a caretaker or in a senior living facility. But by the way things came across, this poor woman was all alone. And she was being tormented by fantastical creatures for no reason.

Daisy couldn't help but find it unfair. “I'm not as emotional as you are and this woman really needs support.” She waited impatiently as Sheryl took it all in and chewed her gum.

After what felt like an eternity, the older call worker laughed and accepted the offer. “I'd love to! Go on ahead and send her over to me, hun. I hope she hasn't stressed you out too much. Calls like these really should go immediately to my floor. I wonder why she didn't call us in the first place.”

The ginger had thought the same but found it unprofessional to voice. Either way, she was thrilled Sheryl was so willing to take on the extra workload right before her break. “Thank you, Sheryl. I'm directing her to you right as we speak.” The woman clicked the line over to Sheryl not wanting to admit that the encounter had stressed her out.
