Mute God Origin
Steven was currently sitting in the pewter city police station with Lance of the elite 4, Professor Oak and Sir Aaron. It had been a day since Steven had arrived in Pewter city after slaughtering the Rocket goons in viridian forest and Steven had been questioned multiple times by multiple people on the subject of his "activities" in the forest. Steven had answered them all the same,'I headed into viridian forest to train and possibly catch a new pokemon. After about a week, me and my team were doing our morning training when my bagon, queen, alerted me of a pokemon who attempted to attack her. I had my ralts communicate with her and she told me about team rocket burning and killing hundreds if not thousands of pokemon in viridian forest. I managed to catch 2 of the Rocket grunts in the area and after interrogating them, I killed the one who wouldn't speak. I then spent around a month and half killing my way towards the center while saving as many pokemon from the grunts in the area as possible. After I got to the core i held my ground against wave after wave of the goons in the forest for approximately 3 and half days with the help of the queen of the forest and the brave pokemon who stuck to my side and aided me and my comrades. Unfortunately, out of the 50 we initially brought, only 12 managed to survive in the end. After I retrieved a mysterious artifact from the tree, the same one that team rocket had been looking for, I quickly headed to the closest city at the time which was pewter.'
This had been Steven's story from the beginning and it would not change, even when questioned on the specifics, he could keep everything straight and organized. The local police in the area were honestly very stunned but after Lance arrived that day and Oak and the very famous Sir Aaron arrived the next, the local police figured it was probably best to leave this to them. So right now Steven was in a soundproof room with only the three men as he once again explained his story to them. Prince sat on a chair in the middle of the room, linking everyones thoughts together so they could properly communicate.
"Well then son, you've been mighty busy haven't you?" Oak said in a hearty tone that still had a worried expression contained in it.
'Yes, I'm sorry I didn't just run out of the forest and seek assistance but I was overcome with anger and grief so I felt like I couldn't just stand there and do nothing.' Steven thought them in a serious tone
"We're all just glad you are safe" Sir Aaron said, which got alot of agreement from the other two men. "You were covered in blood, I saw a photo someone managed to snag of you before you cleaned up and it looked really gruesome. Are you doing ok? Even if it's just mentally, are you ok?"
Seeing Sir Aaron acting like a father figure towards him Steven couldn't help but feel regretful, it was true that he didn't regret killing those goons, but what really shook him up were the deaths of the pokemon that fought beside him till the end. He had been there for a shocking majority of the deaths or had at least seen most of them, so the images of their last moments were still haunting steven a little bit.'Truthfully, I don't care about killing the goons, but I saw alot of good, hardworking pokemon lose their lives just trying to protect their homes and families. Truthfully I have had nightmares these last couple of nights but I have found that working on myself and with my pokemon to get stronger puts my mind at ease. One day…. One day I'll be strong enough to completely wipe out team rocket to make up for those deaths.'
The other men were astonished and stunned, this was a very bold statement but as the men continued to think about it they realized that they secretly hoped steven would eradicate team rocket, as they were criminals that took lives of the innocent for their own gain, they were nothing but a virus. "Well, I'm just glad you thought to call me as soon as you got reception again, that made it an extremely fast process to get the information we needed. I had some league elites go and scout the area to pick up any rocket stragglers, so you don't need to worry about the other pokemon in the forest, they will be safe." Lance said in a warm and heartfelt voice.
The other men nodded in agreement. Steven thought to them,'Oh by the way, while you are all here, could I give you some presents as well as ask a favor from you professor Oak and lance?' The three men looked at him in confusion but they all agreed and so Steven took out three books wrapped in cloth. 'Sir Aaron' Steven thought to him,'I have been studying the aura you have been teaching me-' Steven started but then quickly realized his mistake as he looked at lance and oak.
Lance started laughing and said,"Haha! I am an elite four member, so of course i would need to know this already so if I need his assistance i may call on him, as for professor oak, he has a more complicated relationship with Sir Aaron but he also knows, you don't need to hold back with us.' Steven breathed a sigh of relief and thanked his lucky stars he didn't just make a huge mistake.
Steven calmed himself down and started thinking to them once more,'Ok Lance, I thank you for the information. As I was saying, I have studied aura in depth the last couple of months and have figured out many ways to increase training experience and how to better control aura. I know many of these concepts will be like child's play to you, but I figured I might as well give you an insight of what I am thinking with my cultivation. Maybe there is something in there that you never thought about, but I just want to share my knowledge so that if we do fight it won't be one sided.'
Sir Aaron got more and more thankful the longer Steven was talking as this was something he had similarly done for his master and it had helped his master come up with fresh ideas on how to train, so he would treat this book with respect. As he was about to take it out of the cloth it was in, Steven stopped him and thought to only him and not the other two,'Not now, later'. Sir Aaron knew what this meant as he saw no reaction from the other two, there was something in this book that Steven couldn't let the other see. This was making his blood boil just thinking about it!
Steven then looked at Oak and personally undid the cloth for professor Oak, revealing a name on the book, "Pokemon Natures - Thesis Study by Steven Morganz". This was the completed thesis that Steven had been preparing for professor Oak and now it was time to give it to him, only this time there was a special meaning behind the naming of it and Oak instantly shot up in exclamation,"My boy! Are you going to show the world your theory of pokemon natures? You've finally completed the entire theory? Have you tested it… wait, wait! You signed your name on it! So, you've finally decided to put your name out there!?"
Oak kept clamoring on about steven and steven just let him continue for a little bit, having a little pride in himself for getting this great and gentle pokemon professor to profess his name in such high regard, it was a satisfying thing for him. Steven waited for him to finish and thought to him,'Yes professor, I finished it before the 3 day period where I was in the core. This is my full evaluation of pokemon natures. What was really interesting was that there were some "oddities" when i was conducting this research, i believe there may be many more layers to this. That will come in the future but the reason why I have my name on it is the same as you thought, I wish to spread my name in the scientific circle, so I now ask you for the favor, which is for you to find someone who prints books to print copies of this to spread around not just kanto, but johto and other places. I also would like you to rescind the deal from before, I want you to officially endorse me as my benefactor, not as a private secret but as public knowledge. Other than that I would just like to claim credit for my egg theory thesis from before.'
Oak went from happy to ecstatic as he had been trying to get Steven to step into the scientific circle for quite some time and now he was finally making a move, and a huge one at that! Oak quickly grabbed the completed thesis and slowly started reading it, making a small noise every once in a while to show confusion or understanding. As Oak was happy and reading his gift, Steven turned to Lance and thought to him,'As for you Lance, I made a promise quite a bit ago to give you my training methods so that you recreate the regiment I go through on a daily basis. I have marked everything you need to know about this aspect in this training guide.' After steven said that he handed the unwrapped book to Lance, who immediately took the book and looked at the front cover. The front of the training manual said "Training Manual Issue no.1 by Mute God".
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Lance laughed at the front cover and asked Steven,"Ok, now I have to ask, why not use your real name? Why use the 'mute god' nickname? Didn't that only become popular because of your performance at the viridian city beginner tournament?"
Steven responded in his thought,'This is simply a wish of mine, you do not need to pay attention to it. There is no reason other than that I would like to separate my personal name which will be associated with the scientific field and the name people gave me which was the mute god title to refer to my pokemon and I's godlike performance.'
Lance thought about it and conceded saying,' I don't really understand it but you rarely do anything without a reason.'
Steven nodded in agreement and handed him a second book,' Ok, now for the favor. This is a similar book to the one I gave to you, I call this one "Guide to Training Pokemon: Beginners Edition". I want the same deal as with oak, I want you to find a publisher and have someone publish it to as many places as possible. However, unlike Oak, I would like you to promote this book as Elite Four Member Lance.'
Lance thought this over in his mind for a minute, then finally said,"I will look over it and if it is within a range where I believe that new trainers can pick it up and train with it, only then will I approve it." Lance had said this with a very domineering tone, clearly telling steven that he should tread lightly when it came to this sort of thing. Steven agreed and they departed from the police station, as the other three men went to their respective homes.
==The next day==
Steven stood in front of the pewter city gym and took a deep breath as he held the piece of paper in his hand. Standing in front of the gym were two other boys who were also taking the gym challenge, so steven was listening to the two boys talk to each other. They had been talking for the past hour like they had known each other their entire lives so steven didn't dare to interrupt. Finally an older man came and let the boys in and that was when Steven noticed the man was the same one from the viridian city tournament.
As soon as the announcer saw him he instantly recognized the young man and said to him,"You are Steven Morganz right? The young man from the viridian city tournament? I am the announcer from that time, do you remember me?" Steven nodded yes at his question and smiled at him and then he and the other two boys were led to a waiting room next to the stage.
The other two boys had gotten here before him and so they went first against brock, but there was currently no sign of brock. Then all of a sudden the earth started shaking and a huge Onix came surging from the ground with a human on its back. The human jumped off the onix and landed on the central rock in the middle of the stadium. The announcer stood up on a podium on the side of the arena and said out loud,"Welcome to the Pewter city Gym Challenge! First today is Andrew from Viridian city! Steven watched Andrew go up and release his first pokemon, a mankey. This mankey was obviously different from the one he fought at the tournament, this mankey was properly trained.
Steven watched as Andrew fought Brock and noted Brock's fighting style, how his rock type was already suited well for defense but Brock really went aggressive with his pokemon, completely not using them to their potential. This wasn't entirely his fault, as this was hard coded in the original game, and although this was a real world, the gym leaders most likely wouldn't change their top teams for gym challenges so steven could accurately guess what his opponents would bring. Just like the games, it was two geodudes and an onix, and they were not all that strong either, just like the games, these were entry level pokemon and other than the onix this could be considered trivial. As he was thinking Andrew finished his match with brock losing after he brought out his second geodude.
The announcer then said,"OH! Too bad! Andrew has lost and will not be able to rechallenge for 1 month, we hope to see you again after a month dear trainer!" The announcer then turned and said "Ok next up, also from Viridian, Cole!"
The other boy who had been waiting in the waiting room went up to the podium and brought out a ponyta. This was interesting as ponyta shouldn't be available in the early routes, so it was easy to guess that either this was a ponyta he had purchased or it was a family pokemon that he was using, either of which wasn't a good solution. Expectedly, the young man lost his ponyta very quickly to the first geodude and then lost his nidoran male that he sent out after that. His defeat was sealed and he quickly accepted it when the announcer told him that he couldn't return for a month.
The announcer then said,"Next is Steven from Pallet Town!"
Steven walked up and as he got closer to the area he then noticed the crowd that was sitting in the stands. What steven hadn't known was that unlike in the games, their was a real audience looking on, as people from the town would often come and watch the matches for entertainment. Right now, the crowd looked rather bored and it looked like it was going to be another day where brock just sweeped his opponents.
Steven prepared himself on the other side of the arena and then sent out his first pokemon, the former queen of the forest, Duchess. Brock smiled and said,"Come on now, scyther is a strong pokemon but it doesn't stand a chance against my rock types!" Brock then sent out a geodude and the battle officially started. Duchess moved first and with lightning speed and used quick attack to gain the initial speed advantage, using wing attack several times on the geodude as she maintained her distance, perfectly replicating Princes movements. She couldn't compete in speed and techniques yet but she was very quickly catching up in terms of skill with her movement. She constantly circled and rotated around the geodude and after wearing it down with wing attack she thought she could finish it off, but at the last moment the geodude called forth a rock tomb and she just barely avoided it. Rather than being angry, she became more excited and continued to attack with more enthusiasm but the first geodude fainted before she could really get into her fighting spirit.
The crowd had started to take an interest in stevens match, as the geodude who was taking out everything before couldn't even touch this simple looking scyther, was there something special about the pokemon and this trainer had gotten lucky? Then steven returned scyther to her pokeball and called out Queen while brock called out his second geodude. Brock said to him,"Not bad young man! But this geodude is even better than the other one! Can you repeat this feat twice?" Steven laughed and simply shook his head and pointed at queen and threw up his hands in a defeated look. Brock didn't really know what this meant but the fact that steven didn't confirm it meant that this pokemon likely fought very differently to the scyther that he had just used. Brock found this to be interesting and was curious about this trainer.
Queen quickly ran around the field not letting the geodude hit her, she was already fast but she decided it wasn't fast enough as she stacked two dragon dances while dodging the geodudes tackles and the occasional rock tomb. Queen then used leer, which caused the geodude to flinch and queen capitalized on this and ran straight at the geodude. The geodude was caught off guard and launched a tackle at her, she didn't dodge this time and instead took the full force of the geodude tackle. However, Queen didn't fly back like the other pokemon and instead held her ground, not budding an inch but obviously straining against geodude's naturally high strength. Queen started charging something in her mouth and brock caught on and quickly said,"Geodude! Get out of there!" Unfortunately, it was too late and geodude took a full force dragonbreath straight to its face, making it faint on the spot from the damage.
The crowd started cheering louder and it seemed like more people were here now than earlier. Steven once again recalled his pokemon the pokeball and sent out Prince. Seeing the ralts, brock started laughing,"I can understand scyther and bagon but ralts? Ralts won't be able to do anything to onix! Go Onix!" Brock threw out his pokeball and a massive onix that looked like different clumps of boulders appeared, looking very intimidating compared to the ralts.
Steven just simply smiled as the crowd started murmuring in confusion, why had this trainer sent out such a weak pokemon against brock? Steven didn't try to explain and just thought to prince,'Go.' Much like the rest of Stevens' team, Prince quickly bolted off in the direction of the onix, and swiftly jumped over part of its enormous body. He used teleport and quickly appeared in front of the onix's face and used hypnosis on it before brock could stop it or say anything. Unfortunately for Prince, the hypnosis failed in this critical moment and he was hit with a rock tomb and was tackled away, landing about 15 feet away. Steven didn't move at all, in the crowds eyes it seemed like Steven didn't care about his ralts at all. Then out of the dust Prince came rushing in towards the Onix, using multiple double teams, now 5 different Prince's were all running around the field. Suddenly all the clones of Prince started to randomly teleport around the arena and in front and behind onix, even sometimes appearing in top of his body. Both brock and Onix were incredibly confused and couldn't put up a proper defense. Prince noticed this and started to repeatedly use confusion on the onix until it fainted. Steven had won his first gym match.
The crowd erupted as they saw the fantastic technique that Prince had displayed while fighting and they greatly admired the dedication it must of took to achieve this level of skill. It had to be said that double team clones had to follow precise orders from a pokemon and would usually only be 2 or 3 clones as it was very difficult to control, so Prince demonstrating he could move 5 clones around in perfect coordination and have them all using teleport at the same time? This was a very extreme achievement that many Elite Trainers that go to the pokemon league couldn't even pull off with high level pokemon, so Steven was definitely being highly respected at this moment. The announcer declared,"This young man has won the Pewter city gym badge! Everyone give him congratulations!" The crowd was roaring like crazy.
Steven handed him the piece of paper he had in his hand all the way until now and the announcer said out loud,"Oh? Oh my! The contender has decided that he will adopt the name that he earned from the viridian city locals during his time battling in the viridian city beginner tournament. Ladies and gentlemen in the audience, I announce to you the Origin of a new league favorite to look out for, the Mute God!"
