7 - First Conflict

As the player doing heir quest, Joe contemplates to himself.

'Why did I have to conquer this world?'

To gain power and get revenge so he can roam free? Not really. In the previous life, he was a programmer. He is fine with a shut-in lifestyle.

Because this previous owner body? Maybe, partially. He was grateful to the previous owner's father for the treasure he used now and he would repay this favor when he strong enough.

Because this is his aspiration? Yes, maybe because this was his aspiration. Deep down inside his heart, he still remembers that day when he made small talk with his campus friend in the university, saying that he will become a game developer. That dream instantly dashed though because of that incident. He painfully suppresses his dream to the bottom of his heart.

When he transmigrated, that dream blossomed and invade his brain. So much so that the first thing after he realizes that the rune system in this world is the same as the programming language, he wants to create a working computer and many programs, games, and ready to spread earth culture into this world.

But he didn't know why he was very sure that another demon already doing exactly that mission and he throws that idea to the back of his head. Then, after knowing the function of each treasure, he has an idea to make a VR game and bring players to conquer the world!

Besides, if he chose this plan, it did not conflict with the previous owner's body's father wish. He then rubbed his chin and thinking about something and enter the pendant.

Carmilla who sat in front of the computer confusedly asked "Master, nearly all the player already submitted their quest and received and roam free outside the village. After they asked for another task but got no quest, they just left. Why did you insist to limit the quest once a day, master?" For her, it is normal to utilize the player as much as possible.

Joe shakes his head and said "You don't understand the player. If we force them to do quest all day, they will leave the game. We cannot limit their freedom."

Sure, he can enforce the player to do his bidding now with the mandatory main quest, because they are a professional player and understand the advantage of the main quest.

But when the casual player joins, he needs to give the player a choice to chose their faction. In the future, when the player conquers many regions, he will create multiple factions so to give the player illusion of freedom of choice. At the end of the day, all of those factions still belong to him.

"Right, I think I forgot something. If we didn't control the village, any income will not come into our pocket. So we need to control the villager. Do you have a way to control them?"Joe asked Carmilla.

"Yes, instead of wiping their memories, you can control their soul directly. You currently can't control many of them though, and the con is they cannot grow their power further."

Joe nodded and said, "No problem, I just need to control important people such as the village head, the blacksmith, potion master, the guards, and the class tutor."

Carmilla then said "It's easy then. And it will not burden your soul too, for they are just Tier-2 and below Super."

"Alright, I'll control them after the players log out. And also after the village is built, we need to continue the quest. We need conflict for the player to grow. Do you have any idea?"

"How about kidnapping Baron's daughter so they send their troops to the village?"

Joe shook his head. "Nah, we need to maintain the village neutral stance. If the player knew the village is from the evil faction, many will defect to baron side."

Carmilla kept silent for a few minutes before he said, "Master, there is something you must see. I'll project the image on the dual monitor in front of you". The monitor lit up. Joe then sat down and saw from the player POV.

...

Felix, a player from Ireland with the in-game name 'Blazing Sun' was exploring the woods with his two companions member, all of them are Warrior. Because they haven't learned any spell, the mages and the priests were the weakest among the player currently.

His party member grumbled "Sigh, the quest that we just did reminds me of my previous occupations, moving bricks around. I felt sore on my body right now."

Another player said "Yeah, but did you realize that we feel a little bit hungry and thirsty in this game? I have to give this game a full mark. That shitty Overlord game doesn't hold a candle to this game."

Felix and another player nodded. They realized that this game is more impressive than they thought.

"Right, is someone already test the logout mechanism?"

"Yup, we vanished after we logged out and appears outside Beginner Village after we re-login. We also got a prompt to distribute our free attributes before we log out because the body will assimilate extra exp."

Joe also included a mechanism for players, he engraves 'return' rune with a bit of his void power so the players are safe after they logged out. The body will be teleported underground to the cave he currently in.

In the future, after he conquers many regions, he will make a savepoint so the player doesn't have to travel far and wide from Beginner Village. Felix and his party member reached level 3 after killing a few monsters on their way

"How many hours left before we forced to log out?" asked Felix to his party member.

"Umm, 1 hour left..."

Joe also limits the player playtime to 9 hours a day because it will burden their soul if they stay any longer. When their soul is connected to Eternal World, their main body would be sleeping. This feature will helps his game become more popular among normal people that work in the daytime.

A few minutes later, they found a cave and enter it.

Felix then shouted "Get ready, there is a monster here!" and unsheathe his sword.

After facing many monsters, they realized that although the monster seems stupid, their HP was many times their HP. So they need a group to hunt the monster. Felix was a professional fencer on Earth, he takes his stance en garde and stabs the monster in quick succession.

Joe made the battle window simpler for the player because they protested that previous battle windows was too bloated and affect their vision.

Joe complied and not only made it simpler but also smaller. He also added an option so the player can disable it permanently. Felix and his party member quickly killed off the Demon Spider and absorb the spirit strand of the deceased Demon Spider.

A refreshing feeling washed their body, and they feel that their strength and endurance has increased.

"This feeling, I cannot get the same feelings inside another game. This feeling is so great!" Felix exclaimed. They sat down and recover their hp, then continue exploring the cave.

At the end of the cave, they saw a spider nest and a wooden box. They open the box and found a thin sword lying inside the box.

"Wow!" all of them gasped seeing this blade. This is the first time they saw a piece of Green Uncommon grade equipment!

Felix companion thinking about how to snatch this blade from him, and he said "Cough... Give me this Rapier. I will compensate you with real money. What do you say?"

His other party members look at each other and agreed. Besides, this rapier doesn't suit them much and knew that besides being a streamer, Felix is a professional fencer in real life. As they happily count their gain, a shout was heard from the cave entrance.

"Who are you, to dare steal Red Flame bandit treasure!" Five burly men enter the cave with a saber in their hands. They wear a red turban and had a menace expression.

Felix and two of his companion look each other and frowned. They didn't fear death, but they still feel unresigned if they have to start from scratch, especially Felix who just got a new weapon.
