Prologue (Part 1) – Curiosity Kills the Cat
“Ey Michael, What should we do?” Asks Raynes somewhat nervously. Hearing his question I can’t help but to take another look at our discovery. A few meters in front of us, at the end of a 15 m long cave is a shiny crystal hovering... yes... hovering above a table-like rock. The table-like rock is about a square meter big with thousands of different runes inscribed on it. As a hobby I’ve always found ancient runes and letters interesting yet I can’t seem to figure out where these runes came from.
“Take it obviously? It looks invaluable and the way it hovers... It’s like magic!” Says Sophie, the only girl in our group of four. Looking at her I can see drool hanging from her lower lip and her eyes seemingly shining with greed.
“What?! You want to touch that thing?! No way in hell what if something happens? The teachers doesn’t even know we sneaked away from camp!” Says Jack hurriedly even though he is usually the bravest of us all. I guess appearance really can be deceiving... Compared to his usually reckless behaviour this is completely different.
“Oh shut up Jackie, what do you think will happen? It’s just a jewel... and even if something does happen we all have cell phones right?” Counters Sophie with a sneer.
“I still think we should at least tell somebody...” whispers the almost two meter long Jack in defiance.
“Jack has a point, this doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen before. Raynes can you give one of your fan girls a call for us? Just tell them where we are and to contact the teachers if something happens.” I say while grinning towards Raynes, knowing full well that he hates when I call them that.
“Hahh sure... don’t blame me if one or two of ‘em show up later though.” Answers Raynes while sighing.
Raynes is not like the me, Jack the Idiot or Sophie the Stalker. With girls constantly following him around he is our school’s number one pretty boy. I do not know why someone like him chooses to hangout with us but as long as he doesn’t bring his fan girls along I’m okay with it. Oddly however is that Sophie hasn’t showed him any interest.
After Raynes stepped back to make a call me, Jack and Sophie decided to take a closer look at the magical crystal. Gazing at it it’s hard to not widen your eyes in shock, even Jack seem to be able to restrain himself from doing something stupid.
“It’s so pretty...” Says Sophie while wiping away drool from her cheek. Hearing her both me and Jack nod in agreement.

“It’s almost like it’s otherworldly...” I whisper underneath my breath.
“Oy Guys the call has ended, she promised to not tell the teachers without my permission!” Says Raynes from behind us. Hearing his words I can’t help but to grit my teeth in frustration.
‘His permission?! Has he secretly brainwashed those girls?!’ I think to myself while suppressing the ever growing urge to hit the pretty boy right in his pretty face.
“Good, do you still feel scared Jackie?” Teases Sophie while grinning.
“Tss, you should keep your crazy woman in check Michael. Someday I swear I’m going to hit her.” Says Jack in both annoyance and embarrassment while suppressing his fuming anger.
“Idiot who is my woman? And Sophie stop teasing Jack before he does something stupid... again.” I say nonchalantly while not noticing the odd expressions on Raynes and Sophie’s faces. Bending over I pick up a finger sized stone before turning around to look at my friends.
“Step back guys, let’s see what happens if you touch it.” I say with a bit excitement in my voice. Jack, Sophie and Raynes nod their heads simultaneously before stepping back to the entrance of the cave.
Breathing in I take a deep breath before focusing on the shining crystal. The crystal is still hovering above the square stone table while releasing its otherworldly brilliance. Raising my arm I throw the stone straight towards it.
*Diiiiiiiiinnnngggg...*
...
*Crack... Craaaaack.. CRACK*
Hearing the surprisingly loud high-pitched ring echo through the cave followed by the sound of stones cracking all the blood in my face suddenly disappears.
‘Shit.’
Turning around in what seems like slow-motion I see my three best friends looking at me in pure shock.
‘Can I make it?’
My body moves on its own and before I know it I’m already running towards them.
“MICHAEL RUN!!!!” Sophie is the first to recover from the shock and immediately looks at me in both fear and panic.
Without time to answer I notice that the cracks has already covered the roof of the cave entrance.
‘Fuck!’
“STEP BACK BEFO...”
*BOOOOOM!*
